That was terrific. A genuine cliffhanger towards the end (& I’m not talking about your opponent’s Wizard - who spent the entire game “hanging around the cliff.” 😂)
Great report. Age of fantasy is a great little rule set, it's so quick and easy to to pick up. Have you guys tried some of the additional rules in the full rule book? They're basically a selection of the best mechanics from across tabletop gaming and you can add the ones you like to your games. The extra order options add a lot of depth without any extra fiddle while the extra mission set-ups and objectives make a straight up brawl much more interesting! For $5 is a real bargain (and supports the company too🙂)
@@battleknights9636 we are spoiled for rule sets currently! My game of choice is Warlords of Erehwon but I was looking for something slightly easier to play with my 8 yr old.
Super fun report! 😃 Quick question on the rules though: shouldn’t phalanx besides forcing dangerous terrain rolls also cancel out any impact hits, since the rules says phalanx makes a charging unit not count as charging? 🤔
@@battleknights9636 I just briefed through the rules last night though, so I’m not exactly an expert. 😅 But since ‘impact’ is listed under Special Rules, and it says phalanx makes a charging unit not count as charging regarding special rules, it sure does sound like a unit armed with spears (or other phalanx equivalent) would negate impact hits if they are charged. Also, that would definitely make more sense considering spears seem to be a very costly upgrade. 🙂
What is your opinion of the most suitable rule set to introduce a new player (new to miniature gaming) to Fantasy wargaming? This looks interesting, but would Dragon Rampant or Oathmark be easier to pick up? I'll be providing the figures for both sides.
I would suggest Dragon Rampant purely on its simplicity, oathmark is not a difficult game but it does have that "maths" effort with any offensive action which can put new players off 🤔 also in Dragon both sides units have the same stats effectively so your heavy infantry is the same as mine so easy to remember not a big thing but helps with ease of play ! 🙂
@@battleknights9636 I hear you, I personally prefer rank and flank style gaming, so Dragon Rampant isn't my personal first choice, but I can see how Dragon Rampant can be more "blame the dice" where Age of Fantasy, if you choose the wrong order to activate units, it's really on the player. Dragon Rampant it is.
If I may give my two cents, Age of Fantasy is extremely simple, while having plenty of tactical depth. The game itself fits on two pages (not including army lists, which are similarly brief). Moreover, the basic rules are free, and are updated regularly on the One Page Rules website regularly. You won't be required to buy a new rulebook every two years, like many other wargames. For a person new to the hobby, you could do much worse.
Just wondering, if the rule for fighting in combat for the second time requires 'unmodified' sixes to hit, my understanding is that you cannot buff that with +1 to hit.
@@battleknights9636 I forgot to say, I'm absolutely loving everything about your battle reports. The lovely minis, the banter, the fact that OPR are brilliant. Keep up the good work!
@@alphanerdgames9417 now that i think about it they have actually moved thier fantasy stuff to a sister company called max mini !! ..... speaking of printing i believe they have a shop on my mini factory too
Do you mean the Phalanx rule ? .... i cant recall what happened exactly but im generally not a fan ! .... in game 3 i think i play with an undead army and Phalanx does nothing ..... just a waist of 90 points ! 😂

Thanks for this! I'm trying to get my buddies into playing this game and this helps.
Sorry late reply ! ..... but no worries 👍

@@battleknights9636 yeah they don't advertise it very well, I only took a chance on it after someone clued me in! 😆

I enjoyed the last 20 min discussion on the game. Will there be more AoF battle reports? Not many on youtube.
Hi Jon yes there will be ! .... it seems covid restrictions are lessening soon so hopefully games are on the way ! 🙂
just a note, fearless adds +1 to the morale test, not combat res, so those braves would have lost the combat, but tested at +1 on the dice
Aah yes .... good spot 👌 ..... luckily it didnt effect my wooping 😂
