I need to make a correction. I said this mute is available for bass trombone as well as tenor trombone. I was incorrect, there is only one size for the trombone but this size does work on the bass trombone as well!
I don't think you'll be disappointed. I always have my plunger and pixie mute in my horn case. I saw Wycliffe Gordon pack his horn like this and I never stopped doing it. With that said, I would pull out the plunger at will maybe 10% of the time when it was appropriate. With this mute that percentage is a lot higher because you don't have to fight with the pitch. The blow is way easier too. Plunger work is becoming a lost art so I'm glad this mute is bringing interest back to this style of playing.
Thanks for the review. It doesn't seem that you can get that sound, that initial release of the note, when you're coming from 'fully closed'.(almost like a secondary articulation?) The tuning though! That's impressive. No more experimenting w various holes 👍 The 'Mute prayer' : that's actually so touching as that was their, and your, voice 🙏
When it’s all the way closed, it’s sealed really well on the bell so yes there can be a lot of back pressure on an initial closed attack. I had to say something special for my old plunger. We’ve been through a lot!
@@TheChopsShop Thanks for that update. Yes, I do like the 'release explosion' that I get from my H&B. Am glad that's still a thing on this plunger upgrade. Stay well, I'll be in touch about a lesson!
Dion! Nice job on that video. That actually answered many of my questions. It initially looked large and heavy and I wondered if it was going to be awkward to hold. I'm gathering that it does not appear that the kenny-penny adds any noticeable amount of weight? Great presentation, I'm happy to have seen it.

See and sounds very good, man... that killing blue-jungle style licks!
Thanks!
Interesting but $70 verse $7! Ouch. I need to really try one out first. Thanks for the vid. I’m tempted.

Good review, “Al Grey Jr.”!!😊
BTW…my plunger is named “Dookie Scoop”! LOL!!
I’m gonna be getting my Al Grey on with this mute! Your plungers name is hilarious!😂
Thanks for the review.

Great sounds, my man!
Thank you!🙏🏾

Glad you got some value from the review. The “Kenny Penny” doesn’t change the weight in a bad way at all. It feels very balanced.
What jazz/blues lick is that? It sounds very good.
It’s something I improvised in the video. I’m glad the notes were appealing to your ear! 🙏🏾
Thanks for the review on this Dion. I have been wondering how it performs.
It’s really good!!
Can you do that Tricky Sam Nanton "Ya-Ya" with that plunger?
You absolutely can! You should check out my older plunger video. I demonstrate some of those techniques.
