    Probably the most important thing is, when the bands break, it should be where it's thinnest at, in the case of tapered bands near the pouch so it will fly, away from your eye.

    8mm steel and that Band setup is great for target shooting but can you do a test with larger steel and thicker bands please cheers

    I would like to see a comparison with 15 mm straight bands cut in length so that they provide the same draw weight as the tapered bands at full length.

    This is the absolute best and accurate testing i have seen on this subject. I just found you guys a few days ago and made my first order with you. After watching this I think you guys are my new favorite slingshot shop. Shooters have always known that tapered bands are faster but I dont think most never truly understood why. This was fantastic. I have my eye on the cobra ttf and will be ordering it soon. A great price for a hand made custom slingshot. Do you have a team to enter the world cup?

      Hi thanks for your comment friend and always happy to know that our video can help shooters know things a bit better. We didn't enter the world cup yet but will definitely be there in the near future.

      @@sniperslingslingshots1184 Im glad I have found you guys and im excited to try your bands that I ordered. Also, my shooting gap is 90mm could you guys build the cobra ttf with clamps to a 90- 95mm outside fork gap? And in the white? I want one bad but its a lil narrow for my anchor point.

    • @sniperslingslingshots1184
      @sniperslingslingshots1184  3 года назад

      @@205jab4 Sure no problem, I think 90mm would be good, 95mm might be too much, when you shoot a further target you would need a lower aim point.

    The increase in draw weight was unexpected, though it can't explain the whole story: we got a 15% increase in speed but only increased draw weight 11%. My guess is that a taper just more efficiently accelerates the projectile with the band rebounding at a more progressive rate (the thick part rebounds first getting things moving, then the thin part whips through at the end).

    • @bladesportrayed2885
      @bladesportrayed2885 4 месяца назад +2

      I think the tapered bands are more efficient because its thinner near the pouch which also makes that area lighter and therefore better at accelerating

    • @PetrHosek
      @PetrHosek 10 дней назад

      Also, 15% increase in speed means a little over 30% increase in projectile energy.

    You need a 20 wide band to make a 20 to 10 taper so why not see how it compares to a straight 20 and see what you're extra work to the same piece of material is actually accomplishing?

  • @goblinsgym
    @goblinsgym 8 месяцев назад

    15% speed increase means about 30% more energy on the projectile ! The tapered band is more efficient as you have less mass (and wind resistance) on the fast moving part near the pouch.

  • @nickcook8523
    @nickcook8523 3 года назад +4

    This is very interesting. I thought tapered bands had less draw weight than straight bands.

    • @James-wd9ib
      @James-wd9ib 2 года назад

      very counter-intuitive it's driving me crazy

    • @christopherrowley7506
      @christopherrowley7506 2 года назад

      @@James-wd9ib Yeah it's a pretty complicated question actually. the draw-weight for width must not be linear, getting more and more per unit width. So say x width has y draw weight at a certain draw length. Then 2x width may have 4x draw weight at that draw length (probably not the exact rate, but just an example). But in a tapered system, the thinner part of the band stretches more than the heavier portion, so that complicates things.
      The increase in draw weight was unexpected, though it can't explain the whole story: we got a 15% increase in speed but only increased draw weight 11%. My guess is that a taper just more efficiently accelerates the projectile with the band rebounding at a more progressive rate instead of a flat rate (the thick part rebounds first getting things moving, then the thin part whips through at the end).

  • @dariodalcin5177
    @dariodalcin5177 3 года назад +3

    Interesting findings man!
    I ran some matlab simulation and found no benefit with tapered sets: if you draw your two sets to the same length you are actually overstretching the tapered one in its thin part.
    If you pull the straight ones to the length that gets you the same stretching factor you should get the same performance or even better (and decreased life time of course)

    • @MangaGamified
      @MangaGamified 2 года назад +2

      thanks for that find, but some said with the right taper, material and thickness, the thin parts actually contracts faster, adding to the speed, another reason for tapers, so that when it breaks, it's mostly near the pouch and hopefully fly away from your eye, a non tapered bands is going to be harder to put inside your commercial pouches cause of the small holes.
