Watching the movie right now, I'm stuck at this scene. I keep rewinding. Such a masterpiece. Music, lyrics and vicals are so well put together accompanied with stunning visuals.
The image of older Scrooge asking, begging, his younger self to not let her go was heart-breaking. We all have moments we regret, that we wish we could warn our past selves about, and all know we never can 😟
@@mzsevv4502 Tbh, this is better than the Gaston song he did in that movie. He had a small verse in the Gaston song. He shows more of his singing talent in this movie.
Oh God this SLAMMED me dead center in the chest. Not even just in terms of loving somebody, but putting off something amazing in life for "later" when it's right in front of you for so long is something we can all look back on one way or another. This song genuinely made me reflect on my own life, it's straight up amazing.
Scrooge wanted enough money to take care of the people he loved, but by the time he got it, everyone was gone. Goes to show you enough is never enough.
I literally cried when the chorus started. I started the watching the movie without any expectations but it became something I could never forget. This movie could be my new family tradition to watch. SOOOOO GOOOOD!!
I cried with this song, a lot actually. The song just hits different when u wish you could go back in time and do things different and don't just say "later" cause sometimes there isn't a "later". When Scrooge started singing to his young-self I broke in tears. I loved this movie so much and I hope it gets the appreciation it deserves.
This song- paired with the visual of his older self begging his younger self to go with her- broke my heart. The songwriter(s) for this film are amazing at their job.
"When Love is Gone" from "Muppet's Christmas Carol" and this song are spectacular for the same reason; they let us experience the heartbreak Isabel felt, and then the heartbreak older Scrooge feels seeing for himself how much hurt he created in his pursuit of money. Both scenes show a Scrooge that's been left vulnerable by the images of a past he created for himself, and will never be able to rewrite. It's such a pivotal scene in the story, where we see Scrooge start to experience a bit of a catalyst towards his eventual change of heart. This movie may not have been the best, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that the songs were great and added a lot to what is already an emotionally driven narrative.
Honestly, I found "When Love is Gone" lacking. The actress sounded a cross between depressed and... bored. Buckley instead has the anguish tinged with the newfound steel of a woman who has made up her mind. In aMCC Young Scrooge seemed resigned to what was coming. In fact, _he_ leaves _her,_ not the other way around. That's a stark contrast from this irritated overly-busy young Scrooge completely oblivious to the impending disaster of his broken engagement. That difference in turn hamstrung Caine's range. He expressed regret, but that was all that was left to him. It simply didn't match Evan's desperation at his incapacity to reach his younger self in this piece. I prefer a Muppet Christmas Carol on the whole, but this is scene is a dramatic exception.
Bro the way they harmonized during the final chorus really stings in a beautiful way Not only is Isabel pleading and begging for Scrooge to take her hand, but so is his current self, begging his past self not to remake the same mistake
A very touching and moving song, just as the song 'You' is from the 1970 musical version of Scrooge, showing the pain and heartbreak of Isabelle leaving Ebenezer, and both songs written by the legend Leslie Bricusse. RIP.
I was watching the film on Netflix and this song came outta nowhere. I cannot help but feel frozen upon the melancholic lyrics and prompted me to want to sing it immediately. Later never comes is a perfect example of my personal life. Cherish your loved ones while you still can.
Talk about a power ballad! This projects both anger and sadness...The whole scene was stunning and I loved how everything just froze....Luke and Jessie did AMAZING! My top fave in the movie for sure.
When I first watched this movie, I cried through the whole song. The song is beautiful and I love how Luke Evans sings those notes. It’s one of my favorite duets even though heartbreaking
Achingly, soul-renderingly beautiful. This whole scene in the film matches the music perfectly, and is done so so well! When Scrooge reached out...😭 An interesting adaptation. I liked that it gave more airtime to sidelined parts of the story (Isabella / his Sister). I think the Director was probably thinking: 'what can I do with this story that hasn't been done before?'. Did a pretty good job, in my opinion. This scene was a total masterpiece.

Genuinely wonderful and emotionally charged song. Really hit the mark and got the tone perfect for the story. Genuinely tried to hold back tears whilst watching. It's a very relatable and true to life experience song. Fantastically performed too. Bravo.
This reminds me of those amazing musicals that have that one song that encapsulates the entire heart of the musical. Like defying gravity, memory. It’s so good almost too good! Like it’s such an unexpected gut punch in a fairly fun and light hearted movie. Especially if you’ve experienced loss or heartbreak.
Watching the movie yesterday this song began and I got chills wondering "is this gonna be incredible??". Well, it's better than incredible. A once a year song that you can only hope will happen again in your life. Wife and kids all singing and begging to watch again. Song is perfect by itself, but with the video it's impossibly better.

This song hit me right in the feels. The pure emotion from both sides gives me chills as you can hear how much she still loves him, but she's had enough and wants the man she fell in love with back or else she's walking. And then Old Scrooge pleading with his younger self to not let her go, as she was the only good thing left in his life, knowing what would happen if she left as he had lived it!
Same here. I was sobbing and crying sooo much during that song, you could have filled a milk jug with my tears. It felt very personal to me as I struggled with my relationship with my sister after having a huge disagreement during Covid about the consequences of social distancing and mask wearing and all those Covid safety protocols being the cause of families being torn apart, suicides, how families can’t hug one another especially during moments of grieving the loss of a friend or loved one and of course the issues and inner struggles of those suffering from mental health.
