  • Hello Model Clubbers!
Brian and I are back with our review of the "Raunch Com" No Hard Feelings. I also touch on Love and Monsters, which I loved. I Want to start a UFO, UAP, Paranormal segment to the show. Brian and I are both very interested in that topic and would love to take a few moments on these episodes to cover some of that news...since Scott just rolls his eyes.

This was a fun episode. Very relaxed and casual, like a chat between friends. Thanks for allowing us along.

As ling as I keep smiling, Gandalf thinks I like him. He is a very simple Meat Face.

Great movie choices! Love & Monsters was a great surprise. Want to see what you guys think of the Creator.
UFO's are freaking real and even if you have a 5 min segment on this would be cool.

Great show! I’m a figure kit builder and I build as I buy! I try not to accumulate too many knowing I can’t catch up. My current backlog is 14 kits, and I feel that’s excessive. You guys have tons!

I have 4 medium size bins full of stuff.. and 6 smaller ones. I buy, stuff when it's cheap.
Later on, I won't have regrets if paid $40 instead over a $100. 7 kits in various stages of being finished you have to be in mood

I was like that for a long time. However, my main builds for many years was Sci-Fi. Those kits would come and go. You had to buy them as they came out or thwy would be gone unless Round 2 picked them up. As a result, I have over 450 unbuilt kits amd more are coming.

Brian get the David Fisher Model Mania DVD’s. He gives his formulas for several hair colors including red. I always follow them and they are dead on. Sorry I can’t remember which one of the 3 it’s on but it’s well worth getting all 3.

Thank you. I have looked at those for years. Should just get them. However, I have Jason Walker. The man is a wealth of knowledge and hobbit magic.

Brian - love those figures. They look perfect and would be right at home in a Scooby Doo episode. I always love your fun, not-so-serious, paint jobs. Then that Kong is a seriously nice looking take on the big guy.
I've got a bunch of prismacolor fine line markers that have saved me tons of time over the years. They were a little pricey, but they are advertised as not fading or turning purple over time. And so far they are as advertised. I know, long ago I used some permanent markers for the same type of work and after a year or so they did go purple on me.

Thanks a lot. Can’t be serious when it is a hobby. I build for myself. I really do not chase trophies. As long as I am happy with it on my shelf, I feel satisfied. I use model building to relax. I have people tell me they are great and that makes me happy that someone else can appreciate the work. I just prefer to build for me. Thanks again.

@@brianclark2696 Completely understand. I also only paint to make myself happy. Usually though, making myself happy means doing better work than the last kits I finished. I am always pushing to get better and do finer work. Not always. Some kits are just meant to slap some paint on and have some fun. Even then though, I can sometimes go overboard with the seams and such.
Contests are just a motivational tool to help me finish stuff. Gives me a deadline to show off pieces.

I get it. Not judging. I was just trying to say we need to pit more emphasis on the fun aspect of the hobby and less on the “look what I won” part. It takes the fun out. Just look at people and the reactions they have when they don’t get the gold or whatever they think they deserve.
I had Terry from AFM look at my kits this year. We were just talking. The kit he really like received a merit. The one he didn’t think was to good received a Silver. The one I was super proud of received a merit. People forget that the judge is using the characteristics, but there is still the personal taste. I love seeing it all and juat wish people would go in and have fun.

      @@brianclark2696 Oh, I get it.
Some of the kits I am still the most proud of, never got anything at WF. Didn't diminish my happiness in the completed piece.
On the flip side, I have been shocked at some of my kits that did get stuff. I just threw them on the table because they were done. Never imagined they were worthy of anything. It's all subjective.
      Do what makes you happy.
Which is why I never say anything about those chasing medals. If that is what makes them happy, then go for it.
Heck, I think some of them aren't happy unless they get to complain about not getting what they 'deserved'. :)
It's all just pieces of petroleum products covered in paint.

Ooo! Lots of cool things to touch on. So far, I haven't bought multiples of a kit that I didn't intend to buy multiples of. (there are plenty I have extras of, for reasons). I have come close though. Couple years ago at WF I almost pulled the trigger on a kit a Kaiju Modeler. A big vinyl West Kenji kit he had under the table. A couple months later I was in my workshop and happened to notice that same kit sitting on a bottom shelf. So, I've come close, but so far dogged the bullet.
I have gone through several collection purges over the years. First time when I was unemployed for almost 2 years, I sold a bunch of kits to generate cash. When things were back to normal I realized, most of what I sold, I had no interest in getting again. A couple I did, and I have since replaced them. Second time was when I was packing to move. I made the decision to unload a bunch of stuff instead of pack it and move it.
Since then, I have become much more selective in what I buy. I see lots of cool kits, but I always ask myself "Will I build it?" "Is it exciting enough to elbow it's way to my workbench?"
One of the reasons I have been spending more money on supplies than kits at WF now.
That said, I think I have dropped about $400 on kits since xmas. :)
The other thing you didn't touch on. If all these get built, where are they going to go? It takes a lot more space to display a kit, than it does to store the parts in a box. A lot of mine are slated to be sold once completed. I have many pieces I want to build and paint, but have less interest in keeping on display. So after they are done, and spent some time on my shelves, I think they are going to go on ebay / FB marketplace.
I'm even planning on selling my Monster Scenes collection after it is all built and painted and on display as one giant dungeon for a while.
I'll still have the pictures, and the memories.
As to Jason's question. Yes. Yes, I want to spend hours and hours sitting in my basement building and painting models. That is one of my happiest places. Sitting down there, watching stuff on TV and just relaxing while building and painting.
I won't do it to the exclusion of some great adventures or events. But there is time to go out and do things, and still have time for models as well. It doesn't have to be an either / or.
And this hobby leads to some great times and memories too.

Awesome. You dodged a bullet with the Kenji. The multiples are frustrating.
I am a homebody. I spend a lot of time away during the year coaching basketball. It is a ten month committment and after 23 years, I have been gone a lot. My wife encourages me to build. She rocks.

@@brianclark2696 I had a stretch in my 30s and 40s when the kids were older and I could do stuff. I ran around hitting concerts and going to things. But now the kids are gone, I work too much, and I just prefer to sit at home. Especially since the pandemic. I got out of the habit of going places.
I still love being at a concert, I just don't care for the whole dealing with the travel, the parking, and the getting in and out.

I am thinking about it too. However, my kits are mostly styrene. My local IPMS club has a swap and bull every April. I might get a table and sell. It is difficult though because my daughter always seems to have a college choir concert the same days.
