She was chosen because her superior skills and value to the organization is greater than her heritage. She made it not because she is a Vietnamese-American but a good basketball player who happens to be of Asian descent. Of course, her upbringing in a family and culture where education, discipline, and hard work are taught and valued played a huge role in the person she has become.
Kudos to Kaylynne Truong and her family. It is a rare achievement to become a professional in any sport. That being said, it strikes me the contributions that the Asian community has made to Science, Medicine and Engineering, I feel that deserves greater celebration.
"Drafted" but did she make the final roster? Being drafted in the 2nd round of the WNBA/NBA draft doesn't guarantee a spot on the team. If she still is on the team I will buy her WNBA jersey (which will be the first WNBA jersey I would ever buy) and will attend one of her games in my hometown.
Not even a 1st round draft pick is guaranteed a spot. If you fail to perform, you're gone. The only way to survive is to make the best of any opportunities you get.
@@user-ll9qk2el4d Its sad , they wavied her. I hope she can find a good team to sign. NBA and WNBA always doubt asian people can't play. She look good enough to made any teams. Most black players and white player below average and still made the teams. NUtttttttts
Blessings from a Taiwanese American 💪 🇺🇸 🇹🇼 👍 Rooting for you 🥳 Thank you, Kaylynne Truong, for making the history to be the 1st Vietnamese American to play in the WNBA 🎉🎉🎉 Jesus loves everyone 😇 💝
Not represented on the court but in the boardroom it is different. An overlooked statistic. Good for her for sure but it shows how journalism can influence what we think.
The N.B.A. in '92 Olympics is said to have introduced basketball to the World. The World then started to make it's way into the N.B.A. ,now let's just except it and let them showcase what they worked hard for with open hearts and minds.❤
I was lucky enough to go to high school in Wahiawa Hawaii where most of the students were Asian. I had one teacher named Nakahira and another named Hiranaka. They served rice for lunch everyday and I was the tallest white kid in school. They called white people Mokes. In music class we learned to play Ukulele and sing Hawaiian songs. Probably why I felt so at home when I was sent to Vietnam. Go Lelehua Mules !!!
"Trying to show people that Asians can excel in sports"? Is there any one who thinks Asians cannot excel in sports? What are we still in the caveman days? Anyone who trains in any sport can excel in any sport, but you have to choose to do it first. Asian parents are known not to encourage their kids to play sports bc of their preference for "more respectable" careers. So if they're not making up the numbers it's not because people think they can't play or some discrimination. In the same story they even mentioned her parents' role in their success. So it has nothing to do with opinions. If you don't participate, how can you make to the numbers?
Asian American is not under represented in the wnba. They are just not at the elite level yet. If you are good enough to make it than you make it. Congrats to KT.
Huh? Do you know what underrepresented means? Asians, whether they be from Asia or America are very underrepresented in both women's and men's basketball in America.
She over looking Asian women players like Li Meng who played for the Mystics and won All rookie in 2022. How about Han Xu who played for the New York Liberty so it was Asian women player that should not be over looked.
The media women stated she had to see male asian players play like Yao Ming, Jeremy Lin in the NBA, to see representation. The two Women players I mentioned played in the WNBA in the USA; in fact the team she is playing on was a player name LI Meng, who was Rookie of the year in 2022. These women and many others-are showing that asian women can ball and they made there mark in the USA; and they should be talked about when speaking of representation.
you missed the point it good that women and little girls can now say I won't be like Kaylynne Truong and I was talking about the Women news reporter saying it is no Asian women players that she could look up to just men and that is not true and needed to be corrected.
"Making history" solely based on your ancestory is only an accomplishment if you're racist. It is a great individual achievement though. Good luck to her.
1st Vietnamese, yes, but not 1st Asian. Zheng Haixia from China was drafted into the WNBA by the L. A. Sparks in 1997 & played 2 seasons.
The point is first Vietnamese, danmmm. No need to bring the mood down dude
@@suwats7555 Which is what I stated, reread my comment...and remember: reading is fundamental.
She’s underrated!
Love her humbleness and positive attitude!
Humility. Humbleness is not a word.
We proud of you Klynne❤ also Kleigh
👍🏀
That's awesome and very proud of you Kaylynne being the first Vietnamese in WNBA!
I wish Mystics could have taken her Twin Kayleigh too.Btw Mystics now my favorite WNBA team for recruiting Kaylynne and Li Meng.
Two Asian players 👍👍🥳🥳
Blessings from Taiwanese American 🇺🇸 🇹🇼
1st South East Asian to be in the WNBA. That's awesome. I wish Vanessa De Jesus of the 🇵🇭 wud also be able to make it in WNBA someday.
Kaylynne Truong, proud of you❤🎉🥰😍🤩

We are so proud of her , as a Vietnamese.
We got a Vietnamese girl in the wnba!!
Gonzaga is no joke. Both men and ladies!
She is not a high draft pick, but I hope that she makes the team.
Always gotta find something negative to say. just wish the girl luck.
Sadly she was waived on May 12
Good luck Truong! 🎉😊
So proud of you!
I'm waiting for a wnba team to give her sis a chance too. They can both play ❤
Unfortunately cut from the Mystics roster on the last day but hopefully will get picked up by some other team

She seems humble, has positive attitude, and has good work ethics. Good for Vietnamese and Asian community.
Let’s go!
She's a baller, so his her twin
Yao Ming getting drafted and is in the Basketball Hall of Fame. more than 300 million people follow Basketball in China.

Asians don't get promoted as much as other races in corporate situations.

Haole is the term for whites, not Mokes. Mokes is the term they use for thugs and bullies.

God bless from the Philippines 🥰🥰🥰🙏
Did her sister make it?
Cool
Best of luck
What did she mean? "Asians can excel in sport?". Didn't she consider badminton, table tennis, diving as sports? Sport is not just basketball
Haha exactly what I thought, but didn't want to take away from the positive energy
China had the 2nd most medals in the last summer Olympics, so yeah, I think that proves Asians are good in sports. Many different ones in fact.
Sister didnt get drafted?
Congrats 🎉👏🎉👏
Congratulations to her
Vietnamese women are awesome ❤👍

When the Toronto WNBA team comes to fruition I’ll be looking out for her! 👀
What is European heritage in the USA...MSM does not stress enough.
Excellent WNBA now please promote Reese and Kaitlin.
Congrats pretty lady.❤
Sweet 💎💐💎💎
This is good news.
It would even be more awesome if her twin got drafted as well.

Asian could and can sports. Look at baseball, Ping Pong, gymnastics, and Pro wrestling. Yes they can play sports.
Why such a long name? Native Hawaiians ARE Pacific Islanders.

Didn't Jeremy Lin already break the model minority myth and show not only Asians excelling in contact sports, but dominating at one point?
That was in February of 2012. Most people have already forgotten about this.
AANHPI? native hawaiians are pacific islanders wtf
Too bad the twins aren’t playing for the same team… potentially they could be came the Bryan brothers
the question is.... are women going to start watching the WNBA? I hope Kaylynne is the motivating force to start watching.
She's an American. Not a Vietnamese woman.
I agree. Her parents ones were Vietnamese, but they were American when they held that USA citizenship. Miss Truong is American.
Stop being a wet blanket.
she’s on the Vietnam National Team, dual citizenship Vietnamese-American

Model minority stuff only exists in the West. Being an athlete in Asia is no big deal. There are millions of Asian athletes out of billions of people.
Wow, WNBA, where no one watch
should be using her degree to get a real job that pays more than the wnba
She wont be on the roster long
Wnba so mess up drafted her then cut her not even playing a game.

Break down the model minority myth? So the model minority myth means you don't play basketball?
why want to break the model minoroty myth and try top be more like blks?
What?
Did she just say "asians can excel in sports"?? 😂😂😂 A bit racist isn't it
For some reason the Asian women just more better then Asian men
What happens to diversity?
Better than that overrated showboater Caitlin Clark.
She’ll get many haters like Jeremy Lin ! Watch !
yep. You know it. They will find something negative to say about her. Fckn pathetic
Right on! Make us Asian proud! You can do it!😅😅🎉😂
It is good for basketball
DEI pick. Asian is under represented?????
She has talent.
