My guess is they would have done it to meet corporate diversity requirements. Given the price of the set, you'd think they could have included another 2 characters though, perhaps that would have put them in the next level diversity bracket and they'd have to have included even more random characters to meet the requirement.

$500 is far too much, mainly because there's so much unnecessary fluff added to it to pad it. The platform like you mentioned, which you didn't point out has errors, namely the wrong type of train (GWR 5900 doesn't exist) and the typo on the station. It's called "King's Cross", not "King Cross", which is poor on a set that costs this much. Then that train track base which takes up 10% of the total piece count and could've knocked like another 100 off the price. If it was just the train for £200/$250, then yeah maybe; but as it is, it's needlessly overbudgeted.
@@simonhughes4993 I got it wrong and mixed up, misremembering the error, the plaque claimed the Hogwarts Express was based on the GWR 5900, which is the one that doesn't exist; the train itself IS based on the GWR 4900, also 5972 Olton Hall to complete its full name. Why was there no promotional free gift with purchase (GWP) set for the most expensive Harry Potter set so far? This is where Lego dropped the ball. It was the perfect situation to include a free limited mini set with adult Ron & Heroine, maybe also their kids, which would add to the station platform scene. I went to buy this set on release day and even the Lego store staff were surprised there was no GWP. I didn't buy as there was no GWP to justify the large cost, $800 here in Australia. I'll have to wait and see if the price drops anywhere first or use up all my VIP points and get it at half price.
Why would they include some random noname characters instead of, idk, maybe grown up Hermione, Ron, Malfoy at least? Especially in such an expensive set. In some other sets they included some characters who didn't say a single word in the movie and weren't present in the book, but at least they have their names and were seen in the movie.
Hey MandRproductions, I really like this new of the Hogwarts Express from Lego. By the way, the vehicle in the front is called a locomotive not a train. A train is actually the coaches or freight wagons behind the coal bunker or tender of the locomotive. The class of the locomotive from Lego is called a Hall class. The Hall class used to work on the Great Western Railway and they were designed by Charles Collett. This particular locomotive is called Olton Hall and it was the exact locomotive used in all of the Harry Potter movies. Olton Hall is currently on static display at Warner Brothers studio tour in London although, there are rumors about Olton Hall going to be removed from the studio tour when lease on Olton Hall is expired.
I'm surprised that they went for the older Harry with his kids for the set in the first place. There are a lot of important things that happen on the train during the first 6 years. The scene with Harry's kids at the end is such a small and unimportant scene to the overall story (unless you're a fan of The Cursed Child...which I am not). They could have depicted a lot of other things that happened on the train and skipped Harry's kids at the very end of the last book after the story is over. For sure they should have included Ron and Hermione and their kids if they were going to go that route though.

I think it has to do with the way Lego works. see it as a large baseplate, which curls up when you start building on it. Since the size is long and relatively small, it seem to me, the same happens in here: the front and back bend upwards a bit, so the wheels dont touch the floor.
I wish they included a better variety of characters instead of doing different year versions of the main cast. Having 4 Harrys seems absurd when most Lego Harry Potter fans already have each year's version. I think I may actually have more Harrys than clone troopers.

Not everything is an agenda, especially not toys.
@@AllKnowingNick the collectors series was never aimed at kids, most buyers are not kids, nobody will play with the set as they will with a toy. Nobody cared about adding characters in the background that are not "the main 3", the thing is the main 3 are nowhere to be found. It is Harry Potter, everybody knows who the series is about, and the scene they wanted to recreate when they added Harry's children was obvious, the fact that they did not want to include 2 of the main characters and instead replaced them with 2 figures that are not even in the movie, just points at the fact that they needed to be put there no matter what. Or maybe the designers are just incompetent.
It's so obvious and in your face why those minifigs are included, and these people are denying it because "they're toys", as if forced diversity hasn't already reached every media outlet across the board.

I hate how Lego decides to put the extra long rods for the drive pistons so they still poke out of the steam chambers they really could’ve given us a smaller rod and covered up the front at least
They could’ve just removed the 3rd film Ron and Hermonie and replaced them with the student figures then gave us the adult versions that we will never get a better chance of getting again (unless the do a series 3 CMF)
Everyone jas right for his or her own opinion, however, the fact this trainset doesnt fit on the existing lego railroad system bother a lot of people. Dont wanna be "That guy" but i get lego had to add those two random students only for racial diversity. Which doesnt make any sense because you dont see these students at all in the movie so who exactly are they representing here?
Honestly with the minifig issue I kinda understand why they did that because if you included Ron and hermione you should include their kid/s it’s been awhile see I’ve read that part

I’d like to get a variant of with the engine in a Great Western Railway livery heck we could even get a
Pannier tank as well
they included them because they needed to have some black caracthers in the set... as easy as that
@@repticare101 and why is that? And does it excuse the fact that they replaced 2 of the main characters of the franchise from one of the most iconic ending scenes of a franchise ever, with ... some "students"?
@@SimionAlexandru-hb6xu I personally find problem with a lot of forced diversity box ticking in recent popular media, but for real, it's a LEGO set, there is no secret conspiracy about making figures black or white, they are toys, nobody cares about their skin colour including the designers, so no it's not because representation it's because they most likely wanted to add a few characters who would stand in the background that aren't the main 3.
@@AllKnowingNick Still, an amazing set tho
It's so obvious and in your face why those minifigs are included, and these people are denying it because "they're toys", as if forced diversity hasn't already reached every media outlet across the board.
So are you going to drop test this set?
Can't wait for the madlads that'll use this set to recreate the entirety of Platform 9¾™ in minifig-scale
I would love to see a MOC of this being extended
I dont think that there is going to be a lot of them. Mostly because it cant run on lego scale
the random charakters are the two set designers as far as I know, that makes it lessrandom but even more upsetting to me. also there is a misspelling on the plate: it says king cross. and I think they should have inclueded a function to show the way one entres 9 3/4 through the wall….
for me all that makes the set quite disappointing
That's cool tho
I'm a big Harry Potter Fan but Idk If I should buy this set 😅.
I hate how Lego decides to put the extra long rods for the drive pistons so they still poke out of the steam chambers they really could’ve given us a smaller rod and covered up the front at least
That's a lot of money. Nice T-Shirt BTW
So we don’t want the black characters?
They could’ve just removed the 3rd film Ron and Hermonie and replaced them with the student figures then gave us the adult versions that we will never get a better chance of getting again (unless the do a series 3 CMF)
i might be buying this ser when they holidays arrive, great review
Everyone jas right for his or her own opinion, however, the fact this trainset doesnt fit on the existing lego railroad system bother a lot of people. Some very pro Lego biased people who get all there stuff for free even tried to mod it, without succes. Even motorizing it hasnt been succesful so dar. About the price, it is overpriced, but I am not a collector of the Harry potter line and since I am willing to pay 550 for an ucs Razorcrest (of which I even havent seen pictures), I dont allow myself to have a valid opinion on that one.
Didn't mention that there is a mis-print on the plaque. It says King Cross not King's Cross
Uuh, actually Ryan, that 'frog' is a toad. his name is Trevor and he undergoes a deep and transformative character arc.
13:02 I could watch this forever
not too much into harry potter but i saw that model built in my store in hamburg. I think it´s awesome, can do with a rabate of 100 euro
Unless they changed the design of the light bricks you can change the batteries
What sets are the plain clone trooper phase 1 and 2 in?
Well there currently regular p1 in the clone trooper figure pack
no clue but wish i had more of it
Plain P2 clone was only available in the 2014 clone turbo tank micrfighter, sadly
Phase one is in the clone command set that’s out now but the phase 2 was in a micro fighter in I believe 2014
Like I Said I think I was not stating facts. I was going off many other sets like for example the snow trooper battle pack any other army builders like it have mostly been all the same face but the snow trooper battle pack has different colours of people in it. I was just stating my opinion.
Dont wanna be "That guy" but i get lego had to add those two random students only for racial diversity. Which doesnt make any sense because you dont see these students at all in the movie so who exactly are they representing here?
@@repticare101 well why did they add them
13:10 has me dying
11:48 blue lights?
Was looking for this comment lol
I got this and the star destroyer in box. My mil falcon is half done and there is no place for them in the my display shelve 😢
For me it’s the best size for lego trains
I don’t want to say I’m first I just want to say have a nice day.
You to
Ryan: old Harry, Ron and Hermione
Meanwhile: *they’re 37 years old.
Nice Lego train!
Wait wait wait, did you say ”blue lights” at 11:48? I only see yellow lights
Yeah, I want it, but WHERE DO I PUT IT
i just hope noone makes the random figs a race thing
Honestly with the minifig issue I kinda understand why they did that because if you included Ron and hermione you should include their kid/s it’s been awhile see I’ve read that part
Then add 3 more figures for their kids? It’s $500. A figure cannot cost them more than $1 to make.
@@MandRproductions I mean your right that’s why I said kinda because they probably should have done that
The new hogwarts express looks like a moc
Will you be at Disney springs on the 24th of September
I think that they add the two random minifigs because they need to add different colors of people and they are trying to include other people like how they have girl minifigs in almost every set now.
But great set and amazing review.
Yea its just the new quota rule :/
@@repticare101 so then what was the real reason?
@@slimeball2.0 You can find the reason in the designer video of the set, where they do not even mention the mini figs at all. But mention 3 times the fact that they want to keep it accurate to the original scenes. Lol
@@SimionAlexandru-hb6xu so you're saying they didn't give a reason? Or that you don't want to tell me and you want me to go find out myself?
@@slimeball2.0 yes they did not. At least not in the only piece of media where they officially should. The designer video is intended for that. Other statements that come after it on twitter or whatever are just said to blow off steam
At 8:22 the sticker says "King cross station" seriously? Should be King's cross!
Lego has just lost their minds. This set is 800 AUD.
Diversity am I right guys!! 😂😂 what a joke with those 2 forced figures. I could say much more.
Bro give us 4K HDR colour graded video 🔥🔥
Old Ron and Old Hermione will appear in another cheaper set along with reprints of Harry Ginny and their children
for how long is the set availeble ? ( sorry for my bad spelling i'm from belgium )
We don't know yet but it will most likely last until sometime in 2025.
@@epicshadowdemon1211 thx
Hey Ryan what is your odds the new Mandalorian trailer
I was worried about this set but thank god they included 2 black mini figures for the inclusivity...
I wasn't sold at first, but after seeing those two minifigs... I'll take 10 please!
I don't care how big it is, I Need this. The only issue is I don't $500 to spare....
I always buy all Harry Potter sets on release date.
I have yet to buy this.
I will not spend 500€ for a set where wokism took precedent over accuracy.
And on top of that you have:
- Train tracks that don't integrate into LEGO's system.
- a waste of pieces in the brick-built tracks.
- a waste of money on light bricks
- far too many stickers
- a pathetically small platform
- spelling mistakes on the info plaque.
All this at the same time they raise prices, lower quality and put agenda over fan wishes.
My tolerance towards LEGO's BS is over. The only way I'm getting this set is if I find it for AT LEAST 100€ off.
Lego should include Parvati and Padma sisters or Dean Thomas if they really wanted non white characters
Lego added those characters for black representation.
When we getting the Pirates of the Caribbean Review Series?
So how long does it take you to record something like this?
Man reviewed the train but not the Titanic 💀💀💀💀💀
Nice review though!!
Either old Ron and old harmony or an old Draco Malfoy and his son. It would fit just as well. But yeah why too random characters
Looks really good, but don't have enough space for it! :(
I just want the engine!!!
I believe that this set should be 380 bucks & not 500! It is really over priced i believe people! 🤔 They did it also with the new castle as well because of the nostalgia the consumer had by wanting lego to release a new castle set! I believe lego exploited that and put those pricetags in this new castle set! You can excuse a little the harry potter set since has licenses, but not this official lego castle set!
They just wanted to add diversity characters. Rip
@@repticare101 seems like you are present in every persons comment who has a say about a product priced 500 dollars... let me ask you something as i went and searched for the response of the designers where everybody who wants a response for something regarding a collectors edition set goes, to the designer video of the set. To my surprise, they did not even mention the figures ones. why? Also they mentioned so much about wanting to keep the scenes accurate. If they say something afterwards it only proves what everyone is saying.
