- As a new "content creator" I didn't know what the heck I was doing. Taking on things that I should have put a little more research in. That is part of life though. You don't know what to look out for until you have stepped in a mess a few times. Well, this was one of my first messes. You’re not alone in having done a video that promoted the X Bar, a number of other video producers did, but even though it’s not your, or their, fault that we never got what we paid for , you ARE the only one to even acknowledge, let alone apologise for, the influence their apparent endorsement may have had on people losing their money. I was even told of one video producer who, when questioned about it, simply laughed.
We all appreciate that in business, things can go awry, but we went from ‘about to ship’ to absolute silence and no responses overnight, which is what really rankles and makes you think that it was a scam. Unlike yourself, the XBar people have simply no integrity.
So thanks for this - shows your character.
Ya, I know a few creators who supported it. Kind of felt it needed to be addressed. Def is not something to be laughing about especially when that many people lost money on it. Hopefully they eventually do ship but I am not holding my breath at this point.

Thanks for the follow up video Rob. Received an email back in March confirming my mailing address, then nothing from the company. Found you first video great and was interested in alternative ways of pressuring the the brew chamber. Lots of potential, just mismanaged.

Hey Rob, I wouldn't feel bad for anyone buying products that you may or may not endorse. We are all adults and sometimes things don't pan out the way we'd like, especially when it's something new on the market. Also, as someone who's followed you for a while now, I know I can speak for many, you've always been someone that has been upfront and honest with whatever you bring up. 👍🤘
Ya I can see that. It’s just when you put your name on it and it doesn’t go to plan it makes you feel like crap regardless. I know it probably not necessary, but dang it feels better to clear it up! It’s a good learning lesson for me as well. I don’t just want to peddle products. I enjoy the coffee education and knowledge side much more.

I am an American Engineer and I put up the money, and not only that, but i only did so because i actually was working on a similar machine!
I have been trying to come up with a similar idea for a year when i first saw this ad. I was heartbroken because someone already beat me to it.
If you send me this I can continue working on what I have so far and hopefully make it to market! Maybe we can help all these people still "get one"

I also supported this Kickstarter! Unfortunately I even bought the extra portafilter and I even watched all the videos alot of coffee people posted about it before I backed :( I remember your video, it wasn't your fault I was just so excited and it seemed like they already had manufacturing done so I was confident they would deliver

I felt the same way. I figured if the unit I had worked well then all they would have to do is just produce them. R&D seemed to be complete.

None of the reviewers would sell it? Heck I feel if we got them for free the least we can do is give them away to people who paid.
I backed this kickstarter and had high hopes. They did start shipping initially in China and got some feedback that there was an issue with CO2 leakage. I think in the process of solving that, they may have run out of funds. I'm sure Covid and the supply chain issues didn't help. It's been devastating for a lot of small businesses.
I agree though that they should have at least communicated to their backers and maned up. They could have also sold their IP to have someone else bring it to the finish line (I believe something like that led to the Decent). Instead, we're left to speculate. I've since moved on, and already had a couple of small espresso brewers (9Barista & Flair Pro2). I wanted the xbar as something I could have at work, ended up buying the Picopresso for that.
Thanks for making this video and for trying to make things right. I'm sure whoever receives your xbar will be very appreciative.
Ya this was my first time really dealing with a Kickstarter so didn’t know what to expect. How do you like the 9Barista? I have been looking at it for a bit. Is it worth getting you think?
@@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee The 9B is pretty awesome. It's my semi-automatic, while the Flair is my manual. I think what I like the most is that it's pretty easy to get consistent results. In terms of a distribution, most shots are pretty good to good, with occasional great shots (varies by puck prep I'm guessing). I pretty much don't get any average/bad shots once a bean is dialed in. Main downside is that it's not that convenient for back-to-back shots, so that could be a pain if you have trouble dialing in.
It's roughly the same price as a GCP. So in terms of being worth it in that respect, it would depend on what someone's looking for. 9Barista offers portability without sacrificing any quality but is pretty limited in what else you can do with it (very few mods/accessories, challenging to pull different profiles of shots). I'm still happy I bought it and use it frequently.
I feel like that’s what happened, also. My complaint with kickstarter is that they completely left all the backers out in the dark. They’ve never stepped in to make a statement, never alerted us as to potential issues, nothing. It’s really caused me to evaluate my support for the platform. I’ve backed around a dozen successful projects, so I was surprised that the didn’t have any response whatsoever.

Vince - Ya I have never done much with kickstarter. I feel they would keep there participants more accountable to at least giving updates and stuff. Lesson learned the hard way for me.

Yes, another "never received my Xbar". I was excited about this product, it could have been an outstanding seller. The worst thing was the lack of communication from the creator.

It certainly isn’t necessary. Everyone knows the risks of backing something on kickstarter, and it isn’t your fault the company went haywire. Cool nonetheless.
