    About the names and literature references, yes, there's a lot of them. For example Gregor's apple trauma relates to his father throwing an apple at him, it gets stuck in his body, and him being a gross cockroach, no one bothered to take it out again, which eventually leads to his death. And Hermann being the abusive mother figure is a reference directly to Kafka himself, as Hermann was the name of his father.
    Rodya did kill a pawnbroker with an axe. But it was more of a selfish deed camouflaged as a righteous one, like how Sonya in game described it. Rodion in the book believed he was destined to become a great person, compared himself to Napoleon, and thought that he didn't have feelings of remorse. To prove himself, he planned to kill an old and greedy pawnbroker with an axe. He made excuses in his mind, that him being such a great person, he would be able to share the money equally with the ones in need, instead of keeping it all to himself like the pawnbroker. He quickly proved himself wrong when the pawnbroker's innocent pregnant sister came in and witnessed the murder and Rodion had to dispose of the witness. He had overcome with so much remorse, in fact, that he panicked, grabbed only a small chunk of money worth shit, and felt guilty about it for the rest of the book, being haunted by both physical and mental illnesses, puking and fainting multiple times throughout. Sonya was a young girl forced into prostitution to feed her family, but she was a religiously righteous girl nonetheless. Rodion ends up admitting his crimes to her, and she convinces him to repent and turn himself in to police
    Kromer was an older kid who led Sinclair and his friends to play and eventually they all started boasting about petty crimes they committed and eventually it was Sinclair's turn. He didn't have anything interesting to say as he lived in a rich family that honored morals and tradition. But he didn't want to lose the kids' attention, so he came up with a story of stealing a huge sack of apples from a barn. Kromer asked Sinclair multiple times if he was telling the truth, and every time Sinclair responded with 'yes'. Kromer then came up with his own lie: That he actually saw the poster searching for the person who stole the apples, promising a bounty for catching him. Kromer threatened Sinclair - either he pays up a ridiculous amount of money to keep Kromer quiet, or he tells his parents about it. Since Sinclair wasnt's a kid to usually ask for allowance, he didn't have much money on him, so he started stealing from home, little by little. That's where the Kromer's whistle comes in, as it was the signal for Sinclair to meet and pay up. Those whistles traumatized Sinclair. Eventually Demian comes up to Sinclair offering help. Demian then gets rid of Kromer, just like that, never explaining what he really did, but since then Kromer avoided Sinclair like the plague.
    "Thus, the world of evil began there, right in the middle of our house" is a quote from the book as well. Sinclair naively believed tha the world consists of the world of light - his house, his morally right family, prayers and respect, and the world of darkness - the rest of the world outside of his house, with blackjack and hookers. He desperately wanted to belong to the world of light, but due to his own actions, he believed that he brought the evil inside.

    A thing to keep in mind with the prosthetic replacement is:
    They live in a Nest.
    People in Nest are mostly protected but they work like crazy until the day they die or until they can't do it anymore...
    (and I don't want to know what they do of you when that happen)
    Having a body that didn't get tired, that can be easily repaired/replaced and which just need a quick recharge time to time is
    a HUGE advantage for them. That allow them to continue to work without the worry of injuries
    (specially from repetitive work/accident), to be tired... or to become too old to work. This is a security for them and their family.
    This is probably an obvious choice for them.
    But... yeah...
    Not sure I would like to get an entire artificial body.
    A limb or two, I could live with that... probably... but the entire body?
    This is a scary idea.

Like, they loved him so much that, even after becoming robots they still having dinners together, and even on the verge of death they still think on him. so, to quickly summarize
    Canto I compared to The Metamorphosys doesn't have that much of a direct connection... but resonates preety well with the theme of the book and the implied background...
    Canto II with Crime and Punshment goes more into what Rodion was thinking and the consequences, some paralelisms can be made like the axing, but IIRC Rodion was exiled, while Rodya had her neightbours sentenced to death... the core is the same tho... Rodion believing to be someone special, and that bringing their downfall
    Canto III with Demian... well... it's wildly different from the book obviously, no occult facility in the basement, no hill of corpses, no prosthetic replacements... but... well, the characters, they are god damn masterfully translated into The City, in short, Demian tries do nurture the egg Sinclair is in to make him able to break it and be born into the world, while Kromer wants an ommelet, or if talking in the same terms as with Demian, Kromer forcefully drags Sinclair with him, because he is useful to him, so he is braking the egg by any means possible prematurely, so he can dominate over the underdeeloped chick, in the process bringing forth the worst and darkest aspects of Sinclair's personality and soul
    even the end of the Canto is fitting
    Spoilers for those who want to see it, in my case I've already played it...
    Sinclair in the book, tried a few times to liberate himself from Kromer's grip, failed every time tho, and that only made Kromer have a firmer hand on his metaphorical egg, but when Demian entered the scene, he did "something" to him, and suddenly Kromer was afraid to even get near Sinclair... In a sense, Sinclair not snapping at Kromer and standing up for himself was bad, but if you read between the lines, if he actually did that, one can realize he would've sank into an emotional abyss he would have never been able to recover completely... here, you get a sign, making Sinclair determined to fight Kromer, but you ultimately fail, and then Demian enters the fight and in a moment, Sinclair is free from Kromer
    Now, I have to clarify someting
    I've read Metamorphosys, skimmed Crime and Punishment and readed half of Demian (had to travel to Europe afterwards and all Limbus books I have are physical, after returning home, I had forgotten where I left the book) so maybe something else happens with Sinclair's family or with Kromer, but... I don't know

    • @LambdadeltaYT
      @LambdadeltaYT  Год назад

      that's a good summary of the events actually.
      I will most likely read Demian myself soon, I'm jealous of you having physical copies of the sinners books. Can be very expensive, sadly, but I want the same...

    28:15 their stories are related to the literature characters and their authors in some ways. For example, iirc Kromer is the bully of Emil Sinclair in the book Demian. Sonya and Rodion are character names in the thing where they come from (though they're gender swapped, I don't remember well their roles). Gregor's bug part and the name of that woman who transformed him (though I believe in the book she is not responsible for it, I don't even remember her name nor her role, but she's there in the book lol). Don Quixote's delusions, Ryoshu being a gore fan, Outis's name being used by Odysseus when attempting deception on a cyclops (how trustworthy), Meursault being how he is, and so on with the rest of sinners.
    Btw, the cognition filter wasn't applied on employees, only the manager had that luxury. Also remember the Fear level system, and how even a Lv1 rookie is trained enough to watch abnos up to WAW level (though losing like 60% of Sanity and the "Hopeless" Text appearing), so Sinclair at that time should probably have seen a TETH, kinda like how the Clerks go crazy after seeing TETHs. If that was't the case and he actually saw a freaking ALEPH or smth I'd call that bullshit considering what I explained lmao

    • @LambdadeltaYT
      @LambdadeltaYT  Год назад +1

      You need to remember that Sinclair lived a very sheltered nest life until then. He most likely had less sanity than a clerk would have on their first day.
      You raise an interesting point with the sinners, especially Outis being named that was is very peculiar indeed...

Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal… Even in death I serve the Omnissiah."
    Joke aside seing your whole family turn into inhuman machines must be absolute terrifying, being rich has at least the advantage of giving them quality body mods unlike the Brotherhood of iron in Ruina who got themselves Shoddy replacements to not go all that much higher on the pecking order of the backstreets (and get booked). Then again the City has all sorts of augmentations be they mechanical, biological and even freaking tattoos, and doing the ship of Theseus is required to some degree if you want to climb the ladder ... though the "Its the lattest thing and more efficient" argument from Sinclair's Dad probably doesn't justify going full on Robocop on the prostheses and ask the whole family to follow suit.

    • @LambdadeltaYT

      the ship of theseus discussion keeps popping up over all of their games and media actually, what with the sephirah stuck in their machine bodies (just what is the *soul* and cogito really, being basic questions in LC), books in ruina (if people get booked, worn and unbooked, is the book the essence of the soul that gets released then?) and now this more obvious delve into body modification/replacement.
