Going forward, I think this is going to be my 'cook kit of choice' for day hikes and just heading out to cook because I can (the stove accepts a spirit burner too, so I don't have to rely on collecting wood). What's your 'go to' cooking system?
Thanks for commenting. Do you have a link to it please? I've gone to Google, and unless you're talking about a Crossfit Workout called 'Lumberjack 20' I can't see it!
Yep! I'f I'm hiking I usually opt for a different cooking solution entirely, but if I'm heading out to cook or for 'bushcraft' style camping, then this is the pan I take. It's also great to have in the car when I go fishing... just in case I do catch anything!
Ha ha! It could well be! I have to admit that when I discovered the pan, I did struggle to find very much about it in English so hopefully it will help people who are considering buying a Stabilotherm pan. Thanks for dropping in on my video ;-)
Seasoned it almost a dozen times and still needed to use oil, in other words, it's a car camping/overlanding pan, NOT a backpacking/bushcrafting pan - This is why I bought a JetBoil Skillet, which also has a folding handle and weighs less than half as much as this pan. Very few people cook over a fire that is too violent to use a silicone-covered handle such as that which the JetBoil Skillet uses. The stove you used in this video is perfect for it, in fact...
Thanks for dropping in with your opinion. The Jetboil skillet isn't to my taste - I'm not a fan of pans with artificial coatings so in most instances prefer steel or cast iron if I'm actually cooking in the pan.
I use my 8 and 10 inch (#600200) GSI Outdoors, Lightweight Carbon Steel Fry Pan, with Collapsible Handle. Camp & Outdoor Frying Pan. Yes, GSI does make carbon steel frying pans. The pans are nitrided carbon steel, very similar in finish to the GSI hard anodized (Halulite) aluminum camping pots (boilers) and pans only this is most definitely carbon steel.
Interesting. I was using mine on the fire pit a few days ago and thought roughly the same. To solve the issue and keep my hands away from the heat I inserted a length of stick into the hollow end (you can but handles, but a piece of stick does the job!)
@@ExplorerJust The hollow handle is a great idea. On a gas or spirit stove the handle is OK as is, but on an open fire the ability to extend it with a stick makes life a lot easier.
Does bending it flatter effect the balance of the pan though. I have just purchased one of these (after much deliberation between the fixed handle and the wooden handle) I have two carbon steel pans from Nertherton Foundry but the handles need two wing nuts to be released to store the handle for a compact travel mode, the hinge looks great on these. I use the NF pans at home all the time and it was good to buy something made in UK 🇬🇧.
I hadn't heard of them when I bought this pan. It was only after making the purchase that I came across them on Twitter, otherwise I probably would have!

Hello. Have you considered replacing the handle with something lighter in order to save a few grams? Thanks
Lumberjack 20" is my go to

I have the 8 and 10” and absolutely love them. Food tastes great and much lighter than my cast iron. The only pans I use anymore.

I have learnt something - one should season a frying pan!
Cast iron and carbon steel... not so much with Teflon 🤣
First review of the stabilotherm frying pan in english!

Seasoned with sand and oil 😁
Oil fried burger...GROSS AF

Excellent! Thanks for sharing
I have a similar pan. The only problem I found was the angle of the handle, but a bit of bending moved it to a flatter angle.

@@hypo345 I haven't had a problem.
Nice one mate. Looks like it can do the job... Lol light an very useful. Thanks for sharing buddy tc Andy. 👍✌️🔥
It was the folding handle that sealed the deal for me! I just need to get a pouch made or purchased - maybe even use a dry bag.
@@ExplorerJust good idea that... Let us know how you get on..??
Pan looks ok, but absolutely any pan would be nonstick with that amount of oil in it.
Yeah, I did kind of overdo it a bit!
2:35 which Dremel tool do you use to cut your thumbnail so short?
Good old fashioned hand file. I use my thumb as a guide when I'm 'precision filing' the shepherds crooks that I make
What sizeof the lineup is that? Stuck between deciding on the S3 or S4. Thanks
This is the one I bought... amzn.to/3MAGitK
Should of bought a netherton foundry spun iron pan 😂
