A nice introduction - it's easy for someone new to this stuff to suffer from option paralysis, so sharing settings that actually work is a great idea.
cheers Stephen, the factory presets are mostly rubbish with too much volume difference between them. They basically just showcase what it can do with very few practical applications. Took me a while to figure out how to make my own so hopefully this is of use to some folk. Thanks for giving it a watch!
Option paralysis... I've never heard that term before, but it describes it absolutely perfectly.
So Gary when you say this unit o we writes the preset what exactly happens . You said it has 99 user patches and 99 presets if they are all the same can you make a mistake a write off a preset forever ?

It is a strangely maligned amazing bit of gear. We don't care tho. We chuck it in our backpacks and laugh at the guys wheeling in their Helix and Fractals 😂

True, but the guitar here is nothing too out there it's just a Highway One with Texas Special style pickups. Greetings. Kind of unrelated, i realise, but just wondering how you chose this particular device over the million others in the market. I’m the middle of deciding what to get and finding it hard to choose between this and a few others such as the Boss M80, the Zoom G5n and the Mooer GE150. Any advice? Thanks. Although, your entertaining tutorial has perhaps helped make my decision a little easier.
Hi thanks for the message. To be honest this is the first digital multi I've had since the Zoom 505 in 2001 😂 I've since upgraded to a Boss GT100 as it uses similar software and functionality but with more footswitches so less need to change patches (if you use it the way I do as a virtual stomp board). I'd thoroughly recommend anything by Boss if you can put up with Fractal or Helix users looking down their nose at you. Confuse them with your own pure class digital tone. Whatever you go with, you can use the process in this video to build a tone from scratch rather than sticking to the pretty useless albeit showy presets. Good luck dude!
@@garyjohnstonemusic Hi, appreciate the reply. And the whole thing about looking down on / being looked down upon is funny 😄. Fortunately, I too do not care too much about the name on the tin. Since I posted here, I’ve come close to choosing the GT1 - the only cause for doubt remaining is the ME80 seems a lot easier to use for an effects beginner. But the GTs have far more options. Either ways will refer to your video later (have saved it) once I pick up the pedal. Thanks! And Cheers.
You're right that the ME would be easier for a beginner simply because the interface is more user friendly but I guarantee once you spend a bit of time with this little device you'll realise that it can do anything that the bigger ones can. For me playing so many live gigs on small stages this thing just makes so much sense. I've always found "Mo knobs mo problems" 😁 I'm more inclined to fiddle with stuff if it's available. For most gigs now I use this and my Tom Delonge style strat copy and the hassle-free simplicity makes me have more fun just performing. Each to their own but having been through countless setups and pedalboards I'd say keep it as simple as possible when it comes to live work. Happy rocking bro 🤘
@@garyjohnstonemusic Went ahead and bought the GX-100. Mainly because it’s a new technology and great reviews about feel - which are true. As luck would have it they released the ME-90 soon after 😊. But I’m committed now. The GX-100 is not easy to use if you’re not an effects expert. But I’m working on it. Sounds pretty good to my ears although it does need some tweaking.

Hi LEH, thanks for the comment, I use a boss fs6 for switching between patches. The great thing about that is you can use it for gigs you need it for, but if I’m just doing one style all night I’ll leave it in my gig bag to simplify the setup.

Newbie to the GT1 here and confused already, please explain.
Sorry if that wasn't clear Dennis. With most multi FX units like this you'll find that they have a set amount of "NPC" presets which are really just for demonstrating what the unit can do, then another set that are editable. Hope that's of use. Any Questions just let me know and I'll get back to you in another 2 months 😂
@@garyjohnstonemusic cheers Gary, this video is a big help but it comes at the GT1 by starting with a clean page and building your patch from there (your SRV patch in this particular example), but this doesn’t really cover use of the presets very well, perhaps you've already covered this question in another vid, but I digress..
Now my understanding is that I have 100 ‘preset’ pages (some of which are pretty cool), PLUS 100 ‘editable’ pages, but I’m not sure how to identify the one type from the other and in particular, how to go about ‘swapping’ patches between the two.
I imagine I should be able to select a sound I like in the ‘preset’ pages and then move it to any position I like within the 100 ‘editable’ pages. Having done that I should then be able to make my own minor adjustments and save the result in that particular ‘editable’ patch number.
I’m sure it’s all very simple but it isn’t very clear or obvious how to do it, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please... Does the GT-1 has a Drums Machine in-built as a Rhythm trainer???... Because nobody talks about that clearly and those of us who have problems with rhythm and with budget will like to hear about it plainly...!

Great vid, any chance you can try the same type of tones without the pre amp, it’s pretty much unusable with my Roland blues cube stage 60.

Ah ok so as I said in the vid, you can use a lot of this info if you just deactivate the preamp. If you can get a decent crunchy clean tone out of the cube, just use these settings and use the GT1 as you would a normal pedalboard. I’ll be doing a vid on how to set up the lower 3 buttons soon
