@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel I have a 2016 era Bosch Series 800 Condensing Dryer. Love it but there is no mention of the sump and pump in the owner's manual or on their website or YT channel. Started getting the DR fail a couple years in to ownership and finally figured out there's a sump that needs to be maintained. Did the turkey baster bit that first time but haven't needed to since I started cleaning the sump every six months (cleaned it yesterday, will probably do the baster bit next time). FWIW there is what I think is an electronic float in the corner opposite and in front of the pump that can also get fouled and throw a DR code/stop the dryer. Be sure to wipe that down too. Also getting that sump cover open can be a real bear. Once I get it open there's no way I'd leave as much crud in there as shown in this video. Wipe the entire sump well with a sponge and you can get a lot more stuff out of there. When my BIL was in the market for a small condensing dryer for his condo I recommended Bosch but warned him about the sump. He's had good luck with his, but I can only imagine the services calls they get from folks who have no idea there's a sump to maintain.. Good video and hope this helps.
I don't typically comment on YT videos but this video was so helpful. We bought our house along with the washer and dryer that were there. For two years I was getting the DR error on almost every load. This video showed me how to remedy the problem and we have had months of error free drying. Thanks so much!!
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel, I just wanted to tell you "Thank You". I had maintenance men come to my house twice to repair my dryer and neither one of them (EVER) cleaned any drain. I followed your instructions and my dryer immediately started working again. 👍
This video just saved me! I've had my dryer for a year and no one ever told me about opening up the 3rd part that fills with water. Thank you so much!!!
This was great! THANK YOU!!!! I was at the verge of calling someone, $200 automatic fee just to make the visit to my house, and tried this first after a quick Google search. I really appreciate you taking the time to post this, being so specific with the steps, and helping me to fix this issue!
Scott! Thank you so much for sharing the fix! I've had repair people come so many times for the DR error and when it came on this morning I just thought this is way too much! Like other commenters, I didn't want to call a repair service as that involves money going out as well as a wait for service. Your instructions are really clear and spot on and I learned how to fix the problem. This is just absolute awesome! Thanks for saving me the hassle Scott, you are appreciated!
Thank you so much. I was going to cry until I found your video. Now, I’m feeling kind of proud of myself for doing something that no one previously taught me to do
Life saver. In apt bldg. Only started to heavily use dryer during the pandemic. Cleaned out fine filter each time but had no idea about the other two or the water area. Was not drying all the way. So opened it up and found the two filters i have cleaned in the 5 years i lived here, 3 yrs of which i did 4 loads a week. I need the building guys to pull it out so i can get to the sump tube. I bet no one has cleaned this since the building was built ten years ago. Truly a fire hazard. Thank you for such a clear description. Now i need to explore my bosch dishwasher and washing machine which probably also need routine maintenance
Awesome. You saved me a call to an expensive technician. A quick clean of the sump was all I needed to stop the Bosch dryer continually shutting down 1 min after running.
This is BRILLIANT. We’ve had annual problems with the pump being clogged with lint and when it happened this year I thought I’d try to fix it myself. Your video allowed me to do it without problem. THANK YOU. Bosch has been fantastic in never charging for the visits since it’s the same problem, but now I can do it myself without waiting for the technician.
This video was awesome. Clear and easy to follow. Lint in the sump pump area was something the manual doesn't address and like others have mentioned in their comments....that is exactly what we needed to get the "check drain" error to clear. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! My dryer has been throwing up the DR error for a couple of months and it's gptten so bad that my laundry has become practically at a standstill. I was afraid I would have to call someone, but fortunately I found your excellent video first. It was eaay to follow your instructions. After cleaning out all the sludge, I also blew into the tube as you suggested and could feel a partial blockage clear. Note: Also, I read some of the comments first, and the comment from someone who also has a 300 series like I do mentioned that ypu have to pull the clips towards you, which was good to know.
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Good idea, in general, but since I have 2 cats who sometimes like to drink the water in the output bucket, that might not be such a good idea in my case.
Thank you for this , i've been struggling for months with this problem, and i've everything possible, but i didn't know about this secret door, and its was absolutely clogged causing DR errors. Just cleaned it now (with paper towels, that works the best i found) and it looks clean. I had to set my iphone on timer to even be able to see what it looks like. THANK YOU!!
Thanks for this. My Bosch Classics dryer causes problems every so often with the container light flashing and the dryer stopping (water container is empty). I used clean out the condenser and after many attempts I would persuade the machine to work again fine for another couple of months. This time, could not get it going again. Found this video, finally managed to open the little flap on the floor of the machine and cleared out so much fluff from there. Hey presto, my dryer worked again immediately after carrying out this procedure. Thanks for the video, so very useful. Just a pity that Bosch themselves have no interest in helping their customers!!!!
I've struggled with my 300 series condenser dryer for months. The service replaced the pump, but then it acted up again. I discovered this trap door and found that the sump accumulates lint and slime. I cleaned it out, then poured some Chlorine bleach into the sump. A few days later, the dryer started working like new because the slime dissolved from the sump and from the pump impellers. I appreciate seeing this video because it gives you the clues you need to keep the dryer working.
Thank you! I have a newer model that has been having the DR code pop up. I've been cleaning the heat exchanger but never noticed that trap door. My pump was on the opposite side but I never would have found it without this video. I can't believe this isn't in the manual.
Oh man, thank you! Never would have thought to pry up that access panel. Even fixed the horrible screeching noise that I has assumed was a bad belt or something! THANK YOU!
I know this is 7 years old, but THANK YOU!!! we where going to have to pay so much money for something I KNEW we could fix ourselves and with your help we did!!!!!!
Hopefully you saved me money my husband was gonna buy new one. So when he went to work I watched your video. I'm very particular and clean regularly. Never done deep clean like you done. Thankyou so much😁 Jayne
Thank you thank you thank you! For taking the time to post this. Single mom on a budget able to fix myself and save the money I would have spent on technician. Grateful :)
Wow perfect tip ! I Last year had my Bosch dryer fixed under warranty as it was always stopping mid cycle, guy said the pump had to be changed, now after 8 although I (always) regularly clean the lint filters just had another stoped cycle/error , watched your video and cleaned the hidden sump area which I never knew existed , all good now the hardest part was getting the cover off , used 2 small screwdriver. Thanks again Scott
Same!!! This maintenance step is not in the manual nor online at Bosch. I clean the main lint filter every load and jet-spray the condenser filter regularly. Couldn't figure out, after six years (single user, light use) why the condenser error suddenly appeared and persisted. Was about to call for repair, but decided to Google first and found this video. Thank you Scott!!!!! (And thanks to RUclips, too 😀 I even enjoyed the B&H ad midway).
I just moved into an apartment with this dryer and it was stopping while the clothes were still damp. These steps helped and now it drys my clothes. Thanks!
This is a SUPERB video. Thanks for putting it up. I was getting intermittent "check drain" error messages on my BOSCH dryer, with shutdowns on ANY cycle, and then I found your procedure. I removed a TON of goo and crap from my sump basin. Good tip about blowing backward on that drain hose too. Super results for me, I am happy again with the dryer operation here, still unhappy about the goddamned COVID pandemic.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video! We have a Bosch Condenser Dryer in our apartment and it stopped working and gave us the message "drain." I am not very handy and I usually do not trust myself changing a light bulb, but your video and instructions were very clear and concise. I was able to clear the drain pump in about 15 minutes times and the dryer is now up and running. Your video just saved me a lot of time and money.
Thank you so much. I learned a lot, You are awesome explaining everything about the bosch dryer. Nobody told me the using drying sheets is a total no no for this drryers. Have a beautiful day.
REALLY appreciate this video sir. Eliminated a service call and learned something in the process!! We have a Bosch 500 condensing dryer, about 1.5 years old. It suddenly started shutting down the cycles prematurely; would beep three times and the "DR" idiot light would go on. Cleaning out about ten tons of goopy yucky lint by hand did the trick. The machine gets the clothes bone dry once again. One thing is, I didn't replace that silly panel above the sump -- it's a real pain to remove so I'm just going to leave it out and easily be able to reach in there and do a bit of cleaning when I have the condensor unit out. Doesn't seem to affect operations one way other the other.
I liked the video and think I can add....to solve the humidity problem I took one of the sensor legs on the pump and shaved about 1/2 inch off with a Dremel. Now the dryer works amazing! Had already cleaned the dryer and tried everything else. I think they made the sensor legs to long so they think the reservoir is getting full. It does run a little fuller then before. But it drys clothes GREAT!
I have Bosch dryer 300 series,my dryer it’s only 10 months old and it was shutting down 1 to 2 mins after starting it.I appreciate your help sir, thank you much❤️🙏🏾
Thanks Scott. We had an E90 message but didn't have a clue what it meant. Your video helped us clean everything including the sump, which is so well hidden we didn't know it was there! Everything's now nice and clean. However, the drier still didn't work so we gave it a good thump on each side and a shake … it now works perfectly!
Thank you very much for sharing this maintenance tip. We've only had our Bosch dryer 2 years and the sump area was really built up with lint. I think the pump is still fine, but will probably know after a few days of use.
Thanks so much ! We bought the house with bosch dryer which never worked properly ! Looking forward to perform all these actions and hopefully get it fixed ! Thanks for the fact about the dryer sheets !
Thank you for this lifesaver video. I bought Bosch washer and dryer a couple years ago by their over the top reviews. Did not realize that I have to do my homework as well, like cleaning the lint trap tray under the exchange that is not mentioned in their manual.
Amazing! The DR code & continuous stoppage was driving us nuts. My wife wanted me to call a repair service and now I don't need to. Thank you! BTW - on the Bosch Series 300, it seems that the clips for the trap door need to be pulled towards the front of the dryer, rather than pushed back. However, it's quite tricky to do this and also open the door. I ended up using a small screwdriver to get under the lip of the door so that I could lever it up.
I had the same finding here and I am a retired surgeon so am used to "operating in small exposure places". I used precisely the same maneuver that you did -- bring two screwdrivers and one small intense, LED flashlight to this operation.
Thank you so much for this comment! I also have a 300 series dryer and the two clips did indeed need to be pulled towards me. I used a slightly different method though: I used the fingers of my right hand to pull back on both clips from above, while simultaneously using my left hand to pull up from the front left corner, where there is a gap on my dryer (the gap is along the entire left side of the sump door). This was fairly easy and didn't require the screwdriver that I made my first attempt with.
I just did the whole cleaning with not really knowing how to get in the side of mine until I saw that there was a bottom screw! Got the panel completely off and was able to do a deep clean under heath. Did the pump with fresh water after everything was said and done putting all together again. ran a cycle. Kicked the pump right on and flowed a lot easily! Thanks a bunch! Was driving me nuts as well. I have the 300 series.
Scott, Your videos were VERY helpful. Thank you very much for sharing. We just moved in to a new apartment that has these washer/dryers, and we couldn't figure out why it wasn't drying as good anymore. I didn't even know about cleaning those filters. Thanks again, much appreciated. Tim from San Francisco
Thank you so much! I purchased a Bosch condenser dryer when we moved to a condo and noticed it was making a whistling sound. I’ve never cleaned the condenser filter (it’s 3 years old!) I’m embarrassed to admit.
My tumble drier kept displaying the container light to be emptied so a quick search led me to internet fixes. Trouble was the first one involved taking too and side off and for some reason I couldn’t get the side off! Then found this video and 🤞🤞it seems to have resolved the issue. Who knew cleaning an appliance would help make it work better…….. 🙄😂Thank you SO much.
The amount of sludge that had accumulated near the pump is mind blowing! Thank you for this video. I am listening to an actual full cycle in amazement.
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Hey...! Today I decided to make my machine as clean as possible instead of reading my e-mails... And poured ~1 liter sulfiric acid to the sump then powered on the machine. At first it was OK, pumping the acid out of the machine with lots of dirt... But then poufff...!!! All acid inside the sump poured on my washing machine which was under the tumbler. As the result: I lost both machines, and did hours of floor washing. So, tried and tested: DON'T POUR SULFIRIC ACID TO YOUR SUMP!!! :|
Thank you so much saved me from calling the repair ppl. The last part where you lift the flap and clean the lint clogging the water drainage solved the issue for me!
Aaaah I wished I saw your video before I bought the new Bosch dryer that was over S$1K 😭. I didn't know about that hatch!! I opened it up and it was full of slimy gunk. I cleared it out and cleaned it. The dryer works 😭. New dryer coming on Thursday. Giving my old one to my brother. At least now I know. Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing the video. My draining light just went off so I learned exactly what to do based on this video. Two things learned 1) Such a bad design. The lid is really hard to remove, if they expect people to clean this area regularly. 2) when I touched the wet lints accumulated in the small reservoir, I thought I touched a dead mouse...yikes!
Thanks that worked real well! Note I, used a bicycle pump with a tapered air mattress filling end fitting to pump, air into the drain line and loosen up the lint you can hear it bubbling out in the sump !!! Then used clean water rinse like in your video after cleaning out a large deposit of lint!!
Thank you so much!! Even a 60 year old gal can do this! Not sure why Bosch doesn't put this instruction in their user manual for maintenance. Knowing what we need to do to keep our appliances running smoothly makes us more satisfied customers! The little trap door was a bit fussy to get off, but once it was open and I reached in, it was full! Like someone else posted...thought I was pulling out a dead mouse lolol! Running like a charm now!
I have the same dryer. My sump got clogged and wouldn’t drain. I had to constantly use towels to get the water out so I could use the dryer. Well. I found if I dried out the sump completely it fixed the problem. I took everything out and let it sit for a week.
Thanks so much. I just moved into a roommate apt and the dryer countdown was moving backwards... there was so much lint in the sump it had congealed into a jelly-like sludge. Judging by the roommate timeline I think it hasn’t been cleaned in over 6 years!
Thank you so much for this video. I was getting very frustrated with my tumble dryer turning itself off a couple of minutes after it started. Think you have saved me a call out charge!
Very helpful! I can't do more than about 2 loads of laundry before the "Check drain" light comes on. My dryer is on top of the washer, and both are installed into a cabinet, so I have no way of getting to that drain tube (I live in an apartment and thats how they decided to do it...). When I followed your instructions I found that sump area completely full of water! The only problem is that it was clean water with virtually no lint, so all I could do was soak up the water and turn it back on. Just a hint on the sump cover: rather than digging in there with a screwdriver, just put a finger in each hole, pull forward slightly and up.
Nice Brian, You might try spraying some Windex below the feet of the washer and then grabbing the inside of the washer door and pulling 2 inches on the right and two inches on the left until you can get both washer and dryer out of that closet so you can see if that little gray rubber tube has a clog in it.
Finally fixed mine after going mental. One comment though, is you don’t need any tools to get that panel out. There are two small holes on top of the plate, poke your fingers in there and you can pop the plate off super easy.
Great video and easy to follow - was able to fix my dryer - thanks. Only thing was at the end of the video you showed the tube draining when you tested the dryer - I didn't know where the tube was so had to skip this step - still worked though
Thank you so much, I had no idea there is the little area underneath the filter that needs to be cleaned. I cleaned regularly all the other parts but this one remained the same past 12 years! You saved us tuns of money. THANK YOU!!!!!
Big help! Fixed mine following this video.

I have the 300 series.
very helpful. I've never had an appliance that required so much babying! But I needed a ventless setup in a small space.
They are finicky 😂
Amazing, thanks Scott! Dryer working great again, no repair person needed! These kinds of simple explanations are so helpful.
Thanks Tim,
You’re our neighbor . We’re over in the East Bay😊
Thanks for this video. I just fixed our dryer and the family is super happy. Plus we saved $$ by not calling a technician. Yeah!
That is super cool😎
Thank you!!!! Dryer kept stopping with DR code. Cleaned SO MUCH LINT out! Working great now.
I think you just fixed my issue that was driving me CRAZY! I can’t say thank you enough.
Thanks so much - this fixed my DR error code. So easy to follow too.
You're welcome!😊😊
Had no idea there is a secret chamber. Thank you, this was extremely helpful!
Thanks Arka👍😊
Thank you so much! I purchased a Bosch condenser dryer when we moved to a condo and noticed it was making a whistling sound. I’ve never cleaned the condenser filter (it’s 3 years old!) I’m embarrassed to admit.
I’m glad you fixed it😊
My tumble drier kept displaying the container light to be emptied so a quick search led me to internet fixes.
Nicely done😊👍
Thanks..! That was a great help during these stay home days...
You’re very welcome 😊
You saved me $200 with this simple fix, thank you so much!
Awesome,
Thank you👍
You rock man. I didn't know about that sump panel and well. Saved me a service call on my Bosch 500 series dryer.
Awesome, thanks Andy
Perfect fix. Thanks for posting. Worked, we're drying again
dude, you saved my dryer. thank you so much.
Awesome,
Thanks so much Seth😊
Aaaah I wished I saw your video before I bought the new Bosch dryer that was over S$1K 😭. I didn't know about that hatch!! I opened it up and it was full of slimy gunk. I cleared it out and cleaned it. The dryer works 😭. New dryer coming on Thursday. Giving my old one to my brother. At least now I know. Thank you!!
Thanks mate! I would never have noticed the sump cover! Our Avantixx is back up and running
Thanks Pete😊
Thank you for sharing the video. My draining light just went off so I learned exactly what to do based on this video. Two things learned 1) Such a bad design. The lid is really hard to remove, if they expect people to clean this area regularly. 2) when I touched the wet lints accumulated in the small reservoir, I thought I touched a dead mouse...yikes!
Yep, pretty gross😂😂😂

@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Done!
Oooh,
Great idea😊😊😊
Thank you for helping me become hero of the day in our house. Great video.
Thanks so much👍😊
OMG I THINK YOU JUST SAVED US $1,000
Great video.
That’s what I love to hear 😊😊😊
Very helpful, clear, and concise video on how to fix this annoying issue. Much appreciated!
You’re very welcome
Thank you so much!! Even a 60 year old gal can do this! Not sure why Bosch doesn't put this instruction in their user manual for maintenance. Knowing what we need to do to keep our appliances running smoothly makes us more satisfied customers! The little trap door was a bit fussy to get off, but once it was open and I reached in, it was full! Like someone else posted...thought I was pulling out a dead mouse lolol! Running like a charm now!
Wow, nice job Anna this is your year of the tiger😊🐆
Thanks! No nonsense explanation!!
So glad it helped 😊
Omg, best video for this fix I've seen. Thank you. Also, I hate these units 😂😂😂
Thanks so much😊👍
This video is amazing saved our dryer
Awesome, thank you😊
Thank you so much!!! i just fixed my dryer!
Nice job Rose❤️😊
I have the same dryer. My sump got clogged and wouldn’t drain. I had to constantly use towels to get the water out so I could use the dryer. Well. I found if I dried out the sump completely it fixed the problem. I took everything out and let it sit for a week.
Thank you... I was ready to scrap the bloody thing. Now its working perfectly 😀
Glad I could help😊👍
I think you just saved me $300. thank you sir
That’s what I like to hear👍
Truly saved my sanity! Thank you so much for this video, I couldn't have done it without you!
Thanks so much. I just moved into a roommate apt and the dryer countdown was moving backwards... there was so much lint in the sump it had congealed into a jelly-like sludge. Judging by the roommate timeline I think it hasn’t been cleaned in over 6 years!
I hope that works👍
THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge!
My pleasure!😊😊😊
Thank you very much. Well done and helped me understand my dryer!
Awesome, thank you👍
Love the Rolex! Thanks for the helpful videos.
you sir are a king.
Thanks so much Benjamin😊
Thank you so much for this video. I was getting very frustrated with my tumble dryer turning itself off a couple of minutes after it started. Think you have saved me a call out charge!
Excellent , thank you
Thank you! It was the pump that was clogged!
Thanks Niclas😊
Very helpful! I can't do more than about 2 loads of laundry before the "Check drain" light comes on. My dryer is on top of the washer, and both are installed into a cabinet, so I have no way of getting to that drain tube (I live in an apartment and thats how they decided to do it...). When I followed your instructions I found that sump area completely full of water! The only problem is that it was clean water with virtually no lint, so all I could do was soak up the water and turn it back on.
Just a hint on the sump cover: rather than digging in there with a screwdriver, just put a finger in each hole, pull forward slightly and up.
Nice Brian,
You might try spraying some Windex below the feet of the washer and then grabbing the inside of the washer door and pulling 2 inches on the right and two inches on the left until you can get both washer and dryer out of that closet so you can see if that little gray rubber tube has a clog in it.
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel my building super did this, as I witnessed it. It worked well! YOu need to continue spraying windex as you pull it out
Hi Jeannie! Was the gray rubber tube clogged? I'm having similar issues.
Finally fixed mine after going mental. One comment though, is you don’t need any tools to get that panel out. There are two small holes on top of the plate, poke your fingers in there and you can pop the plate off super easy.
Thanks Russ👍😊
Thank you! I am about 4:35 min into video - where do I find that hose? My unit is against a wall so I’m assuming I should pull it out? Thank you!
Yep, it’s just behind the machine
Great video and easy to follow - was able to fix my dryer - thanks. Only thing was at the end of the video you showed the tube draining when you tested the dryer - I didn't know where the tube was so had to skip this step - still worked though
Did the trick! Thanks!
Thanks Silvia❤️😊👍
Thank you so much, I was just about give up on my dryer... 😊
Nice job Annika👍
Very helpful video. Mine got fixed and I can’t thank you enough 🙏
Excellent ,
Thank you
Very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks Teresa 😊😊😊
Thanks, found the trick to getting to the sump is to put the flat head in the tab grooves, and then twist to open
Yep,
Good idea Alex😊👍
This worked! Thanks
You’re very welcome ✨👍
Thanks. Comprehensive and well explained.
Thank you, that was helpful. I had cleaned the condenser but didn't know about that hatch below it.
+Bonnie Schmelz
You're most welcome😀

You're most welcome😀
Thank you. .My dryer overheats. Will now try to clean the vent behind the condenser.
Thank you so much, I had no idea there is the little area underneath the filter that needs to be cleaned. I cleaned regularly all the other parts but this one remained the same past 12 years! You saved us tuns of money. THANK YOU!!!!!
You’re most welcome😊
