    Best tutorial I'be watched on this so far. Thanks for the informative details like EDL can only have 1 video track and 4 audio tracks.

    good info thanks! Question... do you have a video of the 'sync cut detection" approach.. it seems very confusing, but at the same time the only option when one has a long project: 45 minutes or longer... I think for short timelines XML is the way to go, (or EDL)... but another story when one has one hour or 90 minutes of footage with effects . Thanks!

      Hi Gabriel, terribly sorry for the late reply! I don't currently have one on that subject but it's on the list. It's a great feature within Resolve so it deserves it's own video.

    right, but u missed an important detail
    at 02:41, when you exporting from davinci to premiere in quicktime uncompressed rgb 10 bit, that will take extremely long time and the files are like 100 gb

    • @danielgrindrod
      @danielgrindrod  2 года назад

      That's a fair point, I should have gone into a bit more detail there. The rendering time will obviously depend on the system you're working on but the size is always a factor. You do have the option to change the export format but that's the default Resolve suggests. I don't tend to go back to Premiere but at least the option is there.

    Daniel, I have heard and read from colorists and others, that Resolve doesn't like multi layered sequences from either Avid or Premiere. Your video talks about nests and "complex" sequences, but not specifically clips on different layers. I understand the issue with nested clips, but is it also best practice to "flatten" or move all the clips in a sequence down to one layer?

    • @danielgrindrod
      @danielgrindrod  3 года назад +1

      From my own experience, XML files are ok with multiple video layers as long as they are relatively simple. No crazy effects etc (there may also be an issue if working with multi cam sequences, I can’t confirm this). Personally, because I do all of my own grading mostly, I edit with grading in mind and keep my timelines fairly simple anyway. I think I mentioned in the video but I’d always recommend duplicating your timeline and keeping the original if you do need to flatten it.

    Could you please elaborate on the nested sequences?

    • @danielgrindrod
      @danielgrindrod  2 года назад

      Nested sequences can contain entire timelines of their own which can make transfering to DaVinci Resolve difficult. I havn't got a video on it myself but if you do a search for nested sequences on RUclips there are a lot that will go into more detail.

    One more question sir . And when i export to edl so how to color the cross dissolve on flaten footage or 4444 because it is one footage?

  • @JasonPerryman

    Sorry but I got lost when it came to 2.39 to 2.45 where you click on Select Folder then Import XML. When using a Mac I click Browse, select a folder, nothing happens, then when I open PP and go to Import there is no file I can find, as you didn't help me create one there, and I can't import anything. Basically you kinda leave me in the lurch there after you go to the Select Folder part of your video, you should have explained that better in more detail and/or it just don't work for me on the Mac. I'll have to go somewhere else for help on this part.

    Hello sir, first i have to say sorry because i am not good at english. I want to asking something i have some issues when i export from premiere to xml and then i import to resolve. When i import xml to resolve the footage is not translated by the program and the file is not available on media pool. And then when i try to apply the tutorial that i watched which is import the footage and then change the timecode is not working as well. So what should i do? Thank you for your respond before.

    will i loose colors if i export the whole finished timeline in primiere as prores 4444 into davinci and grade it there ?

    • @danielgrindrod
      @danielgrindrod  3 года назад

      In terms of dynamic range, you will always get the best results from the original source media, however, exporting in a lossless format such as prores or DNXhd etc there is minimal loss for color grading.

    I'm having an issue where there's no additional settings for Import Timeline- is this only available in studio?

    • @danielgrindrod
      @danielgrindrod  3 года назад

      Perhaps, I'm not entirely sure! is it the "load XML" dialogue box that isn't showing?

      @@danielgrindrod I sorted it out! The interface changed & that feature has been lumped into just one "timeline" option. Thank you!

      @@cchristophrr Ah! that's good to know, I'll make a note of that in case anyone else has the same issue.

    I've done that for test I put in 6 clips to premiere timeline, export it to xml, and when I imported xml in davinci, and it only work with 4k or fhd, when i've got fhd footage beetween 4k, i only import 4k or fhd, the others are set as media offline on the red page. any solotion?

    • @danielgrindrod
      @danielgrindrod  3 года назад +1

      I'm not exactly sure what may be causing the issue. It could be that you are working with scaled footage, if you are working with a mix of FHD and 4K clips. One potential solution if that is the case could be to export the scaled FHD clips in a lossless format and re-import them into your timeline and then exporting the XML (similar to how I mention in the video for nested clips).
