Well, I think this is your best episode yet. I watched the first bit and was thinking "Where is the offline reference footage". You have raised the bar so high, that us mere mortals will have to work a lot harder to come anywhere near your tutorials. My only advice ( and you knew this was coming ) is that for the work I have done in the past, rarely do I have to do the whole thing like you have done here. But I do understand that a lot of people will be doing just that. In a lot of cases, I have had ametaur editors that have done the Premiere part of this puzzle and I have had to make screencasts and type out what I needed on their end. So my advice is to take this video and cut a version for your subs to link to Premiere editors, showing what is required to make things easier. They might not watch a whole end to end video if they aren't interested in the steps in Resolve. But I know that it would have been a great resource for me in the past to link to a video ( like yours ) showing the steps that you have here to get the prep that would make the whole thing smoother from the get go. I had to do the same with Final Cut Pro as well. It seemed that the xml from FCP had media offline because the xml had absolute paths to all the media. It was the way the client had it set up. Luckily I have FCP and figured it out on my end - Then as I mentioned with the Premiere hobbyist export, I had to do a step by step for FCP as well. Anyway, this video is really well thought out and executed. I envy your abilities in presentation of the information. Another great job. Now take a break for a few days and relax. -Cheers.
Thanks Jim. OK, good point re. a short version of what to do in Premiere for Resolve. Thanks for that. I'll look into it. Thanks for kind words....I spend most of the time planning the content and order and best way to deliver the message - recording it from there is pretty straight forward. Regards take a break...would be nice but back in a client attend grade tomorrow. The shop is busy! Cheers again Jim.
So 'Adobe Premiere Pro Editors' facebook page took down my post..are you an admin on that group? Just trying to help Adobe users get it right. I never said Premiere was bad, its a workflow thing ? Can you help?
small addition to the offline reference. Once imported and linked with the timeline you can hit Ctrl + W to toggle the reference in the timeline viewer. By default it's set to a horizontal wipe, but it's always great to check resizes, dissolves and retime effects in difference mode. Note that video compression (of the ref file) will have a subtile effect on that, but in gerenal you can guarantee the best results by checking in difference mode. also a side note on ref files. Sometimes with certain codecs or mismatches, the timecode can get mixed up, therefore timeline and ref file won't be in sync. To fix this, go to your ref files Clip Attributes and fix the clip timecode.
Darren! You saved my life. I had always problems with resized clips from Premiere in DaVinci. You are my hero! Thanx a lot and greetings from Munich, Germany
6:46 UHD is four times the size of HD, not twice the size. Also, choosing "Set to frame size" only works if you are keeping the timeline resolution the same in Premiere and Resolve. HD in this instance. If you are doing an offline edit at 1920x1080 with the intention of importing an XML for a UHD 4k timeline in Resolve (very common practice in the film industry) use "Scale to Frame Size" This more closely mimics the background scaling that Davinci Resolve does. So the edit sizing translates correctly.
Awesome video Darren, I don't think anyone has explained this long overdue topic in such a detail, hope you decide to make a masterclass someday so we could learn even more and you could directly benefit as well
Thank you Fahad. Please subscribe to my exclusive email list which I know will benefit you in the future, I can't say much more than that! All the best, darren. ** bit.ly/2RrjvpN
Casual drop of a tip really....I usually do it your way because have been doing it like that for 12 years now! I'll pretend it was a cool way though! #alwayslearning
I am new to transferring a project into Da Vinci - most users can confirm it is no easy transition. Thanks for such a clear video which is informative and also tackles the common issues that the software often bring up.
Man thank you for this videos, you are helping me with my college works, im studying Audiovisual Communication for making videos, movies, or anything, thank you so much dude!
Thank you so , so very much for this detailed explanation. You've saved me hours of troubleshooting and exporting and reimporting and adjusting sizing manually. Cheers
Absolute gold! As you said around 5 mins in, you do put a lot of work into them, that much is extremely evident. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Darren, really appreciate it.
Thank you. Yes I put a lot of work into these. That is why I cant put them out once or twice a week. Appreciate your patience and glad you enjoy them. Darren.
Just to restate - this was the best. We now have a repeatable, trustable workflow that absolutely works - scales, etc etc from proxies or original raws - Premiere to Resolve. One slight change for us - we needed to move Resolve to CENTER CROP NO RESIZE to have proper scaling on the Resolve timeline. Thank you. Thank you. Darren i hope to see you @ NAB to shake your hand and buy you a drink.
dude just found your channel and you are the freaking best!! Side note - really would love a color management tutorial or series of tutorials that are in-depth from beginning to end. Other people have tried, but you seem to have a good feel for how much detail to get into. It's easy to underestimate just how confusing the topic is.
Really useful video. I am looking forward to seeing future tutorials on bringing a colour-graded file back into the original Premiere pre-export file and re-applying all the graphics and titles that weren’t graded.
Hey Darren thanks for your work! At first i thought i know anything about conforming but then you came across with the handy “set to frame size” premiere button😅 lovely . Keep up the good work
Really well done video. Answered all my questions. **NOTE** If you change a clips time via right click and 'reverse time' it will NOT carry over correctly. For these clips I baked individually, then did XML
Excellent as usual!! It might be useful to remind us that the sequence you want to export from Premiere must be selected in the media bin, not just with an open timeline in the edit area. Also curious about how nested clips might come across if you've had experience there. Thanks again!
+1 to this! I do not do complex or cross-platform work, but immediately saw how this feature -- one I have never explored -- could be very helpful! Thanks for the call out, and thanks to Darren for pointing it out!
Fantastic video Darren! I'm about to start making the move from Quantel Rio to Resolve and I really need all the metadata to come over from Premiere. The Quantel Rio had no problem seeing SMPTE transition and Position and Scale etc through an AAF. But I now need the same to happen through Resolve. The AAF route didn't seem to work, so I will try the XML option after seeing your video! Thanks again!
Great as always! Long time ago when i was on Premier I knew about "set to frame size" but forgot about it. Recently i had a lot of XML work with all that reframming, oh man it was pain in a... Where are you bin half year ago!))) But better later then newer. Thank you!
I can hear colorists/assistants applauding around the world. This is a MUST SEE for Pr editors. Well done. Of course, the easiest way is to edit in Resolve. (sorry, couldn’t resist) Next up: Multicam and nested clips conform??
Thank you, Darren! Whenever I'm googling and isssue, there you are with a clear and concise explanation! It's like having a private Bat-Signal, haha. (Also, thanks for that help with DWG and Color Management the other day :D )
So pleased to hear that. Glad I saved you time and probably some pain!! Thank you so much for the subscription...really means a lot and I count every single one as a new friend! Enjoy the channel. LIVE coming soon so keep an eye out or hit the bell thing. Thanks again. Darren

I have complained publicly on the channel....denying people free access to a solution is crazy!
@@DarrenMostyn I am not an admin there but the guy who runs it is an editor here in Vancouver and is a good friend. I 'll PM him.
@@JimRobinson-colors thanks! no self promotion (ah, OK , i do ask for a subscribe...but for two days work, not a lot to ask!).

I use Resolve in my job everyday, and the XML importing is what I’m learning right now. This video is priceless to me. Thank you. 🇨🇦👍🏼
No tutorial on this topic went that deep until today. You are a true master of tutorials.
Darren! You saved my life. I had always problems with resized clips from Premiere in DaVinci. You are my hero! Thanx a lot and greetings from Munich, Germany
It's truly astounding how easy the internet makes learning these days. Thanks for the tutorial, my guy.
My pleasure!
So helpful!!! Thank you so much 😊
The importing reference was golden!
This is a life saving video for many editors. Thank-you so much sir, definitely subscribing and referring this channel to my friends.
Thank you for subscribing and recommending me to your friends - that is really appreciated! Enjoy the channel....more coming soon!

This is by far the best tutor on XML I've watch on RUclips
Best Colourist on RUclips hands down! This helps a ton. I primarily work in Premiere and wanted more flexibility in grading.
Glad it was helpful!
This is so nice feeling to find an industry level trainings thank you!
Smashed it again. The offline reference is killer tip.

know your basics course is just what I needed. Taking it a day at a ti so I can fully grasp the core of soft.
Hi Nikhill. Try this episode too. Good luck, Darren. ruclips.net/video/QeL1TJdqVRY/видео.html
Loved that you just dragged the ref file into the viewer, I was doing the longer way by attaching it in the media page. Thanks for the tip!!!
Casual drop of a tip really....I usually do it your way because have been doing it like that for 12 years now! I'll pretend it was a cool way though! #alwayslearning
This is by far de best content in RUclips 'bout Resolve, thanks a lot
Thank you. I've been finding solutions to work with multiple resolution footages for quite awhile while importing projects from Premiere to Resolve.
Glad I could help!
I am new to transferring a project into Da Vinci - most users can confirm it is no easy transition. Thanks for such a clear video which is informative and also tackles the common issues that the software often bring up.
I have a new one coming next few days which should help you transition even more! Keep a look out

This was PERFECT! Found all the questions I had with the xml. Cheers.

Thanks I struggled with XML in the past, now I can give it another try!
Thank you very much for your help solving the problems fixing while importing xml in resolve.
This is mindblowingly useful for editors at all levels. Thanks a lot 🙌🏽
Happy to help, thanks Anant

First time viewer and this was informative. Thank you! And, I thumbed.
Appreciated Steve
This is the best tutorial for premiere import to davinci i have found on youtube thanks for sharing this information
You re very welcome. all based on real use scenarios when I have to conform and grade other peoples Premiere projects.
Worked! What an absolute genius mad lad! Was so easy
Really well done video. Answered all my questions. **NOTE** If you change a clips time via right click and 'reverse time' it will NOT carry over correctly. For these clips I baked individually, then did XML
13:45 was exactly what I needed, thank you!
Great tutorial, Darren. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Beautifull explanation, It's the first time that I see this explained deep and usefull. Thanks
Glad you liked it
What if you already edited the whole video on scale to frame size and now when you switch to set, the wholllle thing is off?
Excellent as usual!! It might be useful to remind us that the sequence you want to export from Premiere must be selected in the media bin, not just with an open timeline in the edit area. Also curious about how nested clips might come across if you've had experience there. Thanks again!
resolve xml cant read nested in detail. This is limitation of XML not Resolve.
Thank you for this video. Extremely helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
