I Have Never Seen Gatlinburg This Busy in my Life!

- I went into Gatlinburg today (Sunday October the 13th) and planned on a few hikes in the National Park but my plans quickly changed! As I got into town I realized traffic was not the typical weekend traffic!
I used to vacation down here many times prior to moving and I can say that I have never seen it this busy! I think the combination of Fall break, evacuations from the hurricane, and Fall colors made the area even busier than normal!
Although my plans changed, my day was still beautiful and I consider myself incredibly blessed to live an area people long to vacation. Sometimes things don't go planned for a reason and it makes us slow down and appreciate the beauty we normally miss 🖤

I love that place. I've already been there in May, June, July, and August in 2024 and planning to go later in October and probably November. I absolutely love it. Know every inch of that town :). I live in KY and it's like my second home down there.

I bet a lot of that traffic was because of I-40 being closed....a lot of traffic being diverted through the park. That...being combined with fall craft festivals....big game in Knoxville saturday night.....plus typical leaf peepers....and a holiday weekend (most people don't go home until monday).......🤔 I was just wondering.....how far back onto the spur was the traffic backed up....?

CRAZY BUSY! We were in Sevierville today (Monday) and the traffic was ridiculous! 😮

Are there any months that you don't have to wait in bumper to bumper traffic for everything? We want to visit but not if heavy traffic is non stop. Also, is there lodging you would recommend, hotels or cabins?
Before we moved here, we always stayed at the Margaritaville hotel in Gatlinburg and loved it! It’s still a staycation for us now. I love the convenience of the location. I did a video on it if you want to check it out. As for it being busy, honestly this was an odd weekend with it being this busy. Typically it’s not standstill like this ever. However, busy months are usually in the summer through the end of the year. The only actually dead time is Jan-Feb.
It was fall break for a lot of schools in the Atlanta area, including my kids. That is probably one reason for it being so busy.

If this was Sunday, 10/13, there was a 3 car accident 13 miles from Gatlinburg coming down 441. We were on the mountain for 3 hours. No traffic moving in either direction.

We arrive Saturday... I'm really hoping that waiting to go into the National Park on Monday & Tuesday will help, but I'm still wondering if this trip is a bad idea. Does going early in the morning or later in the evening help?
Yes, this was yesterday Sunday the 13th around 12-1pm. Keep in mind that it was holiday break and Fall break for many schools. I wouldn’t change your plans, Gatlinburg is always beautiful. Just have a little patience during October since many travel here for the colors and leaves changing. 🍁

Did you ever stop and think that something was holding up traffic for some reason? Accident maybe? Or bear sighting? It don't seem to be that busy just Backed up..🤪 Have never seen an event in that direction that would cause this much of a back up..
I wondered if it were an accident actually but a bear would not cause that massive backup onto the strip. I think just a lot of people in town! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for your reply but maybe you haven't seen the crazy way people can act when they see a bear.. They jump out of their cars and block traffic, it's really crazy.. Well anyway I sure don't know why the back up happened.. Again I enjoy your post ..
