Black actors being pointlessly inserted started ruining otherwise watchable movies years ago. I can hardly find a movie now worth watching.
As an African/Native American woman, I'm tired of this nonsense of about one race going against another races because of what happens in the past. I don't like to be reminded all of the time of another race because of what that race did to people like me in the past. I was raised in a diverse environment, and I liked it. I loved to learn about other cultures and races besides my own.
Here is the thing, race is an artificial construct. When I look on ancient maps, I can't find a country called white. I can not find a white language. Caucasian people are made up of hundreds if not thousands of DIFFERENT ethnicities, cultures, languages. White people did not do this to Africans, WEALTHY people did this to Africans.
I agree, if you go through history, you’ll see that everyone has screwed over everyone else at some point or another…

Yet the history and cultures of Africa are rich and complex, worthy of study and media exposure. All that is instead ignored in favor of rewriting history and "punching up" at "oppressors."
I'm reminded of a genuinely _good_ horror movie I saw recently, _The Old Ways._ *[WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD]* It focuses on a young Latina being held captive by a Mexican bruja. Eventually, though, it's revealed that the young [birthing person] is possessed by a traditional Mesoamerican demon, and the bruja and her family are trying to save her with an exorcism. Over the course of the movie, the history of the girl is revealed, her restraints are loosened, she begins researching and participating in her own exorcism, and with mounting horror comes to realize that the bruja and her family are a dying breed whose traditions will likely die out with said bruja. In the final exorcism, the demon is expelled, but the bruja is killed in the process. However, the young [birthing person] is scarred in the process, giving her a witching eye, and she is now ready and willing to carry on her benefactor's legacy as a bruja herself.
These poor fools could have given us something like _The Old Ways._ Instead, they opted for dehumanizing white people and a victimhood circlejerk. Sick. Sad.

There are many different people of different backgrounds who play the "magical person" trope. This role has often been played by Eastern European gypsies (white people), children (who are portrayed as susceptible to supernatural forces), Priests (often white), hippies, Native Americans (due to natural spiritualism), black people (with roots in Hatiain vodou), etc. The magical person trope is a universal trope. I'm a white-skinned latino. I look and talk white. I dated a black girl back when I was in my early 20's. Her family and friends made me realize what racism was. Her family was so constantly racist that she had guilt and went off to find a black guy to be with. No loss, but a lesson.
I’ve experienced similar issues, a błack gírl I wanted to date, her brothers (actual brothers) instantly hat3d me and told her she couldn’t date me because I’m not błack. An Asian gírl, same thing (I’m not Asian) but it was her parents. Growing up I was constantly told I wasn’t “whíte” though because I’m Sicilan and Spainish and French (a whíte Latino) but today most everyone tells me I am.

This idea may have been funny as a sketch on In Living Color back in the early 90s. In modern times, we all know where this is going. By the way, I am a black American man who was born and raised in the south. I know all about real racism and so on. I can assure you that very few people are interested in the modern push for inserting race into everything. Hollywood and Washington DC politicians will have one believe that race relations are the same as they were prior to the Civil Rights era. Like so many of these “woke” (hate this term) films, it will not be watched by the public at large. We as the public at large need to make Hollywood hurt them where it hurts: their wallets!

Reading this title reminded me of a Key and Peele sketch where they both played a "magical negro" and had a Harry Potter esque fight.
My disappointment is immeasurable that there won't be an American Society of Magical Negros vs the Grand Wizards of the KKK on the big screen. It could have been a good comedy/action film with a twist on the whole Harry Potter mixed with Kingsman type thing, instead it's just propaganda.

The stereotype does not exist. There’s a character archetype - the Mentor - and they are played by actors of differing races. If Gandalf or Dumbledore were played by black actors, suddenly their characters are “stereotypes” and “offensive”.

Being white is not a privilege. I'm not happy knowing how this land was taken and how they treated other humans back in the day. One of my favorite movies is Undercover Brother. They clown on white people and have stereotypic tropes with white and black people. It's hilarious. Not trying to force u to like it or you're racist. Color is only skin deep. But when you force stereotypes to your audience it comes out more offensive, not funny or well written. There is a type of hatred in these types of movies. It goes farther than Skin Deep. It's called racism.
