Love this! I saw them open a show with Bridgeless last December. The song highlights the strengths of the band as well as any they play. It’ll always be one of my favorites.
I was here. I asked Bayliss what his favorite venue is when we were riding a 30 min water taxi to Belize at Jam Cruise 2019… it’s all I could think to ask. I was drunk lol. He told me hands down Red Rocks. I’ve seen these dudes in at least 15 states. I have to agree with him. They rip it at Red Rocks 🙏🏼
When is the new album dropping? Will it be in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music? I can mix it for you. Lol ❤ My wife and I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on the 24th.
The intro sounds like it alternates between 4/16 and 6/16; then goes to what sounds like 12/16 + 8/16 once; then 10/16 twice then back to 4/4 with and implied 3 (or 6/8) feel over the top before Bayliss comes in on vocals. I'm probably wrong and will have to slow the video down and recount it. This is not your garden variety jam band. This is straight up progressive rock. The fact that they have long stretches of improvisation doesn't detract from this fact. King Crimson (an obvious touchstone for their sound) did the same kind of thing if you listen to their live albums. UM calls their music "improg". There's a semantic distinction between "jam bands" and "bands that jam" and UM most definitely falls into the latter category. This is all far too tightly composed and technically proficient to fall into the noodle over the same chords for 20 minutes approach of your typical jam band. Even the "jam" parts of their live performances are plotted out according to a formula: one of them will start with a simple 4 bar motif, then someone else will chime in and extend it to 8, then eventually to 16, and before you know it, you have damn near a whole composed on the spot song sandwiched in between the composed beforehand song. These dudes are something else, boy I tells ya.
7:40 Kris playing the electronic pads while also playing his drum kit is impressive on it's own but with his right hand ALSO playing the OTHER electronic pad on the opposite side of the kit is fucking bonkers -- pay attention to when he turns his head and you won't miss it
If souless robots could play music I imagine it would sound like this, too much over playing and no feeling. They are talented but I prefer more feeling more depth. When Mike was in the band and Jake wasn't. That was my favorite Era of UM. They have some interesting ideas too that are well executed but I enjoyed When they were just finding their sound to
I remember seeing these guys at camp bisco 3🤦♂️No one knew who they were and honestly I dont remember much of that time but they were good I think🤣 It was on a farm in Pa and it rained, someone overdosed shit was no joke
Love it!!!
Nothing else can put a bigger smile on my face
Great band. I'm Umphreys for life. Never miss a Red Rocks show

This band has been a monster for a good while now, too.😊
3:52 is an incredible fill that drummers will admire.
The best in the business in my view

Killer version of this song... The audio quality is rough compared to most of their official releases though
Bring back Waful

My grandmother has more energy than these guys and she’s 81
Man they really aren't danceable at all. So many tempo and style shifts. There's never a groove to latch on to
You want them to jump around stage like a bunch of teenagers? They let the music be their energy
Every body besides the bass player I like
