  • *PLEASE FORGIVE THE GRAPHICS QUALITY AND AUDIO GLITCHES-IT WAS A RECORDING SOFTWARE ISSUE*
    Well here’s a title that I have been looking forward to for a very long time.
    From the people who brought you Long War for XCom, comes Terra Invicta, a hard sci-fi strategy game on an incredibly ambitious scale, combining terrestrial politics with detailed physics simulations and detailed research and economic systems.
    Terra Invicta will be releasing in the second half of this year, but next week there will be a short demo posted to give people a chance to try out the first part of the game. A full playthrough of TI can take decades of in-game time, the demo covers just the first 7 years, where different factions of humanity struggle for influence and to decide what the way forward is now that we’ve discovered we are not alone in the universe.
    The devs have been kind enough to give me early access to the demo, so I’ll be doing a quick playthrough of the demo years, and show you a few strategies I’ve come up with, while explaining some of TI’s many, many, many game concepts and systems.
    Apologies for the crappy video quality - it’s a function of my recording software that I’m hoping I’ll be able to resolve for future episodes. I'll also apologise for the editing quality - got my hands on this a few hours ago, it's after midnight here, but I really wanted to get this to you as soon as possible!

    Criminal organisations being there to influence makes perfect sense to me, they are large organisations with considerable resources and somewhat unique skills. At the same time they are comprised of people and as such are just as potentially mailable as any other group, that is to say if you can successfully convince them it is in their interest or provide enough incentives to make it in their interest they are likely to support you.

      Yeah, they might be against the law, but this does not mean they are not gonna feel the consequences of First Contact.
      A guy in the mafia is just as likely to want to end up as xenomorph food as any other guy. Which is to say, not at all. If it takes funneling some of their dirty money to a shady org's space program for them to stay uneaten, they will.

    I also see a lot of modding potential here already. For example the Organizations tab could be filled with all kinds of stuff and there could be a ton of different ways to manipulate command points to spice up different countries. The fact that the devs have a modding background and that they stated that the game is "built with modding support in mind" makes me incredibly exited for the game. I might even decide to actively add some mods myself.

      Sadly, it is quite boring and later turns very tedious.
      If you want Grand Strategy, try Paradox games, they know what they are doing. The easiest to get into as a newbie is probably Stellaris (because it's the most similar to the simpler 4x games, like Civilisation), the flagship game is Europa Universalis IV. The best compromise between new and evolved (as in has some patches under it's belt) is Heart of Iron IV. The most insane one is Crusader Kings II. The one with the most potential (but very aged, now, and the potential isn't realised) is Victoria 2. Crusader Kings III is ok, but it is the newest one. Imperator is just for fans, not bad, not great and more of the usual.

    Who knows maybe people will come together and fight for the survival of our species by cooperating in our billions... I'd hope so but I'm skeptical.

      No matter how much of an ass you are if you see some unknown creature descending to annihilate humans you'd probably forego all hoarding behaviour to defend yourself. There's little use in having wealth when everything is gonna be erradicated by grey men from outer space. At that point is not even a matter of right and wrong, is either cooperate for a sliver of a chance at surviving or giving up and dying.

    • @r3dp9

      Just as this game depicts, I imagine people would split into factions with varying approaches, centered around prominent spokespeople. Individuals facing uncertainty would flock to whatever spokesperson seems to best represent them. Some factions would have cooperative goals, others would have conflicting goals. I don't imagine national borders would change much, but rushed international agreements would definitely turn individual nations into de facto supernations - if only in terms of manpower, science, and production.

    But for purely pragmatic reasons, as leader I'd also CLANDESTINLY support Escape (we can NOT openly support escapism because that would become a vexing leak in our steam engine. We need all the steam pressure of human capability, not letting people be "but plan B" blasé about the whole thing). Basically, the plot of The Dark Forest.
    For all we know, aliens could be just resource hungry or risk averse, and thus they will want to eliminate us and all Earth life out of very boring considerations (like we do some wasp's nest to build a house). So humans remain to be the one chance complex life has to become multistellar, instead of dying with the boiling away oceans of Earth in 1 billion years.

    With the way claims work and how its easier at the very start to break into the member states of the EU than going right for the US, it looks like speedrunning EU unification is by far the best strat. Is it easy to form new federations or get new claims? For example, can China form its own fed and then unify it to expand as easily as just unifying Europe? Or can they, say, claim Japan and conquer it? It seems like the CP limit makes playing any other way kinda pointless, just forming mega-Europe is way stronger AND easier than messing around in Africa with all that unrest, for example.

    Now that I played the full version and went for the EU start in my game, it just looks ridiculous how easily he can secure almost every EU nation at the start.
    In my playthrough I could with a lot of luck secure France, Benelux, Germay, and Poland leaving out the executiv and was already at my cap, meanwhile like 3 AI Faction entrenched themself in UK and Italy. And that was the luckiest start I ever had until now.

    That boost mechanic is interesting. Does it actually model the types of rockets each country has access to? By October (if everything goes to plan) SLS and Starship should be online, so America would start with a huge boost advantage.

    • @PerunGamingAU
      @PerunGamingAU  2 года назад +2

      The game assumes that by October the US is the only just in second place on boost (behind Baikonour and its huge stock of Soyuz rockets). There isn't actually that much boost in the rest of the world. France has a decent income, China has less than half of what the USA has, and smaller players like Israel are like 25x smaller than the biggest players.
      It's a scarce resource on the map early on.

    • @boobah5643
      @boobah5643 2 года назад +1

      Didn't they announce last week that SLS was delayed (again!) until next year at the earliest?

      @@PerunGamingAU For boost forming the EU federation has also a benefit. Except for French all the other EU nations have to form a space program (60 points needed) before they can build boost (which is 2 point for lvl). So after joining the federation they do need to finish that project. Also I believe the proximity to the equator affects the boost and I believe French Guiana (part of French) is the closest launch site an EU country can have to the equator.
      Btw do you know what happens to the already invested point for a next lvl point of a country once it joins a federations. So I mean with a army 45/60 before deployment do those 45 (or it's value carry over)
      Btw once I hit the 7 year mark the game stopped being a free demo and locked me out. Just a head up warning.

    They have to update the UK from a boost % because the UK is doing a ton with rockets right now, and they seem to be targetting the remove junk industry, which is really cool.

    I have quite a similar taste in games to you so I'm looking forward to more content. I found you through your Ukraine videos but went back through some of your original backlog.
    That being said a suggestion if I may. I think it would be a good idea to have some shorter form gaming content as well. I'm down to watch an hour and a half long video about war economies or whatever, but once a gaming video goes above 35 or 40 minutes it gets way harder for me to watch the video. I quite like your style and think you'd be good at shorter vids.
    Just my 2 pence

    The interface is sorta slow and the game looks a bit rough in a lot of areas. But the mechanics of the game are interesting and unique enough for me to be hyped for this tbh. In my demo playthrough the US and Russia launched nukes super early and it was fun trying to play through that scenario.

    it's not "real time" if it's pausable and you can give orders when paused. If it plays like paradox games which looks like it does, it's not called real time.

    I guess the audio glitches are different thing, but there is definitelly clipping (grainy sound when speaking louder) going on in audio. You can turn down the mic gain (to avoid clipping) and use a compressor to normalize loudness.
