Ok I admit I cried when she said she found herself after decades. That broke me because I can relate. Such a sad situation she didn’t give up on him and he was clean for 14 years. But she lost decades of her life dealing with this man, scared of him, tethered by him and parenting him. I truly hope she finds peace and can make great memories. 🙏🏼

Oh, no. After hearing his comments, it's apparent that he's not worthy of her grace. But offering it is for her, not him. She is and always has been a much better person than him. 50 is not that old. I hope and pray that after he dies, she might fall in love and have a relationship with someone who cherishes her.

Maybe she knows he won’t be around much longer and is willing to put up with him. I can’t understand it but it’s her life.
My aunt worked with a woman who had an abusive husband. When she finally worked up the courage to leave him, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer with only a few months to live.
So, she stayed with him because he didn’t have anyone else to help him. It was very hard for her to stay because, even though he was dying, he was still a mean snd nasty man. When my aunt asked her how she got through it, her reply was “I dug his grave” (not this actual one). It was winter so she would go out with a pick axe and shovel and dig up the ground. When he asked what she was doing, she said she was preparing flower beds.

I am a survivor of Domestic Violence. She IS making a huge mistake. He is still playing the victim.. The moment he walks back into that house he will be the same person he was all along. AA terms a "Dry Drunk" where he might be Dry = Sober but still thinking, behaving like he's Drunk. Until she gets to counseling, a support group (Al-Anon), surround herself with women who can educate her, be there for her, she will fall right back into her codependent role once more. This time she will stay with him because of his health. God forbid, he looks healthy enough to use a gun. I fear for her safety. She believes she has power over him, she does not!!! DISCLAIMER: My abuser husband was an alcoholic/drug addict.

@@patriciaroberts308 i'm guessing you're correct...and hoping you're not. There are exceptions to every rule, so maybe he will be an exception, I doubt it, though...as others have pointed out, after she spoke, he spoke...about himself: how he had to do work that was painful to him because of his illness...but unless I missed it, no words about the years and years of emotional and physical pain he inflicted on her. And though she spoke about what a good man he was, helping others, who knows...that could be the mask he wore, to make himself feel and look good.
Still...anything is possible, and for both their sakes (but mostly hers, I admit) I hope she's right.
I wish there was a way we could find out how it turned out.

My father was an alcoholic. Actually, both parents were but my mom drank beer at home mostly and never got really drunk where my dad would get really drunk. Sometimes he would just come home and go to bed but other times he would come home and try to unalive himself. I used to lay in bed praying I’d be asleep before he got home so I could, hopefully, sleep through any incidents that might happen. Sometimes, these incidents happened during the daytime. Those were the worst. My siblings and myself all have C-PTSD.

I don’t know what trauma you experienced at some point in your life, but consider my comments as a literal sign that you should talk to a therapist because your wiring is faulty. This video encapsulates the epitome of justice served. I’m not sure I’ve seen another example where the victim of the crime determined the actual punishment to be imposed. You were not victimised by the defendant, but somehow you think you know better than the actual victim about what retribution is most appropriate to the crimes committed against her? What would she know about the circumstances of her own life and the things that would bring her happiness? Forgiveness is for losers who don’t have the stamina to hold a grudge, right?

I wish it was this easy to get an alcoholic to straighten up, but I have seen people go to the grave even with cancer holding that bottle. Hopefully, that won’t happen here.

I can’t believe she said she didn’t care if he came back or not. That seemed to contradict everything she said her statement

I’m sorry but … he may drink again.. especially if he falls into self-pity , which he may do easily because He’s coming to the end of life.. alcoholism defies all logic & for an alcoholic, “putting your mind to it” isn’t enough . If it was many people would have been sober long ago.
I hope things go well especially for her…

Alcohol is a legal drug that costs the users their health their minds their souls their families their relationships their marriages their jobs their careers their reputations their dignity their self worth their perception and their ability to make good choices and their judgement when participating or executing normal everyday functions that require judgement and sober thinking .and the repetative tragic PREVENTABLE horror of killing innocent people because alcohol interferes judgement families are devastated negligence due to alcohol is a preventable nightmare. Ultimately by the affect of habitual alcohol use drug use the physical body will fail and an untimely death or by the distorted neurological impairment that sends messages to the brain to engage in sober activities results in tragic accidents ..the drunks at bars leave to get into vehicles they intend to operate or boats the alcohol effects create delusional thinking and a tragic death is almost ALWAYS DUE TO THE DRUG ALCOHOL OR BECAUSE SOMEONE INTOXICATED WITH THE DRUG ALCOHOL HAS DONE SOMETHING THAT NEGLIGENTLY CAUSED AN INNOCENT PERSON OR MANY TO LOSE THEIR LIVES.
