Askeladd losing his temper is what made him split that man in half. By doing so, he made the others wary enough to draw bows instead of continuing to engage him in melee, where Askeladd actually had a chance.
It's funny because they weren't smart enough to do that from the beginning
i never even looked at it that way, but that was definitely intentional. that's badass. cool how they could show little details like that without feeling the need to explain it.

About Thorfinn being onesided a lot of the time, yeah that's sort of the point. He is so obsessed with the idea of revenge that it inhibits any sort of development he may have had.
Which makes it all the more interesting when we actually get some introspective moments for him, because the setup of all the ideals are still there inside him. Instilled by those around him, and most importantly, his father.

Right! That's why he is one of my favourite characters from this show. And I have only seen S1 so far, but I think the way he is portrayed is very real. I get Thorfinn's revenge plot gets frustrating and seems childish especially towards the end but just maybe that's the point. At times it even feels like he is preventing himself from moving forward. One of the reason I'm so excited to get into s2, is to see where this journey he is on is going to take him, what's his thought process now, how both Thors and Askeladd is going to continue shape his life and will he finally understand his dad's words and what he stood for.

By the end of season 1 you'll ask yourself, how can this be topped? Farmland Saga hits different, hits deep. It is where the boys are separated from the men. There will be action but it's about something greater.

Its funny, other than Bjorn, Throfinns drive to be the one to kill Askelad ironically makes him one the most loyal on Askelads side.
Something I love about this show is that being based losely in the actual written Viking Sagas it doesn't lean into fantastical or magical strenght to highlight some characters. What it does is exaggerate some parts, much like the tales made in ancient times about warriors who were peak at their time. Thorkell's heptakill with one axe swing and Askellad cutting a man in half are like legendary feats that probably weren't true or even humanly possible. But people talking about them like that showed how above in skill and strenght they were compared to anyone else at the time. And that is what legends are made of.
while i agree some of the ancient legends definitely do involve magic. many mythological figures are demigods and, as such, would likely have magically superhuman strength

I'll admit Attack on Titan has crazy plot twists, but this show is just something else. Season two made Mondays that much better looking forward to new episodes. I look forward to these reactions every week just as much!

Yeah I think Askeladd was holding back on purpose so the others thought they could beat him, so they wouldn't just shoot him from the distance. As soon as the bows and arrows come in there's very little he can do - just like with Thors in a way. He can block one or two, but if he has a dozen arrows flying at him it's over. So he keeps them optimistic and willing to engage in close combat. (Maybe it's the only reason he was cut at all.) I think it shows how he's one of the best, but not quite as much of a tank as the likes of Thorkell or even Thors. He's shorter, slighter, and he mostly relies on his speed not strength...so a bunch of arrows can really take him out, even when he'S not hit in the heart. I also love that it pretty much confirms that Askeladd's been holding back for all those decades he's been with this group, since they apparently never saw him do that kind of thing before.
Askeladd is one of a kind.

True, but it's also important to note that you can't just separate all the setup of S1, and have his character work the way it does in S2.
The development for his character is just as prevalent in S1.
The misconception that only positive character progression counts as development is also very popular. In actuality, Thorfinn HAD to go through everything he did, in order to become better, so it's all development, even when his character spirals downwards.

The way Askeladd would have been truly able to kill over 50 men, but even he has no chance against arrows. He was acting tired to get them to attack him up close

Albanese gummy bears are the BEST gummy bears ever(they’re a little bit pricey imo tho but it’s worth it!)! Trolli gummy worms are the best gummy worms and the straw gummy things are better then the mike and Ike things imo! I recently seen some grape flavored straw gummy things which I’d never seen b4 n haven’t tried yet but I shall!
Season 2 is definitely a totally different vibe then season 1. Vinland is actually one manga I’ve not read so I have no idea what’s gonna happen or where the story is going. But I enjoyed both seasons so far even if they’re both super sad n depressing.
Thorfinn is from Iceland and the people from Iceland decend from Norwegians. So he doesn't really have any allegiance to Denmark
But is Thors a Dane? Cause as far as I know they fled to Iceland, they weren't originally from there

I think that line about losing his temper is meant to imply that Askeladd is fighting well below his max power on purpose. There isn't any direct confirmation, but I assume his idea was that as long as he makes it appear that his men are on more even footing with him in combat that they won't be worried enough to get cautious and start using their numerical and tactical advantages against him. While it's true that his men have him surrounded, as long as they keep fighting him up close he could try to stall for Thorkell to show up. As soon as his men realized they didn't stand a chance they started to use their heads and come up with a better plan to deal with him.

the comparison between Vinland saga and LOTR was made in this episode and I just wanna say, while LOTR is amazing by every account, Vinland sagas themes are far more meaning full and complexly built into the characters when compared to even other greats like LOTR, but I could had use any other show as a example because its hard to beat Vinland saga in that regard.

In both seasons 1 and 2, Vinland Saga is quiet at first, but suddenly shows his true potential in the second half. Only those who seriously enjoyed the story to the end can experience that God Peak Time.
