Fun fact: I’m 71 years old. Back when I was in my twenties we used to snowshoe out in the morning until it was time to stop for the night. We’d find the thickest stand of spruce with low hanging branches and make our camp. We’d add branches on top of each till we had a nice cozy den to spend the night then we’d pile about a foot os boughs on the ground to sleep on. We’d gather enough wood to last the night and bank the fire so the heat was reflected inward to where we were sleeping. We’d sit up in our sleeping bags and drink tea till bedtime. Always fun times.😅
"Have you not heard of the gold in California? Where a man can work one summer and have enough gold for a lifetime! Well, looks like you only have one summer left. I guess wont need much gold now will I?!" Ha ha ha ha. Great soundtrack and great pristine views. All except the nice exfoliated skin of the brothers, this was a really great movie.
A minimalist Western probably closer to the real life of the earliest mountainmen and explorers of the Far West. A well made movie with a simple and thin storyline. Excellent photography and accompanying folk music. Good direction. One of the best Westerns in recent years. Hats off to all those involved with the making of the movie.
This was a superb movie. Very realistic. Excellent acting. Excellent story. Costumes authentic. Log cabin authentic. Can't say enough good things about this movie.
The rifle was made for the movie. How so? the stock was new looking. Cabin may have looked real, but logs were cut with a saw and perfectly cut. A real cabin back them would have been cut with an ax. As for the costumes, not sure. At the beginning, the Indian was wearing yellow. Indians back then didn't have yellow clothing or blankets. What was real in the movie is the weather. Cold and snow.
Life was hard, it was a miracle to survive in such circumstsmces, a real struggle the art of surviving I guess even in our modern society we face adversity and strengthen our character through it.
Thank you, I enjoyed it a great deal. At age 73, I have seen two-three times the amount of movies most others have since I have been a movie addict all my life, sometimes seeing three features a weekend. I remember well the Golden Age of Hollywood because I lived through half of it and watched most of the earlier stuff. I was very impressed with the photography and the realism. I really hope they do more because I would love to see them. I thought it was very similar to Jeremiah Johnson. Add in the interaction of the brothers and it was better than the Quaids.
They know nothing about wild living. I'm a mountain dweller of 50+ years . Hunter, fisherman, trapper, sawmill owner, logger ... You name it I've done it.
This is a pretty good mountain man frontiersman movie with several overtones of the great/epic mountain man frontiersman movie 'Jeremiah Johnson' (1972) starring Robert Redford.
very nice film, with a few questionables! when you're dying from cold, first thing you do is dry if you can and COVER your head. but overall very nice raw film.

Such sympathy for the native Americans in this movie. They were already living in the post Apocalypse created by the colonizers. Fighting for a right to live in freedom. Fighting for a right to feed their families as hunter gatherers. Europeans superior weapons allowed them to decimate food animals natives depended on for generations. Too sad. In unfortunately can no longer enjoy movies like these. I know too much now.
Way back than should have been flintlock. Dont care about the wrong canteens and clean fingernails. I know its a movie for entertainment and it entertain me. Good movie. Perfect? N, but good.
Yes. But I do enjoy seeing things that are so off that I laugh. And different people know different things. I watched a cowboy out west shoot a Chinese pheasant that was imported for rich people 100 years later. Ha.
All you people crack me up all the crazy things you find to comment or complain about. Hey ,that's nothing terrible or new ,we all do it, but the one lady who notices the mountain man's fingernails are too clean ? I'm sorry but that's just too creepy or it it just me ? 😂

Two minutes in the dude doesn’t have snow shoes. This is not realistic. That would be one of the first things he makes for himself out of any materials he can find. Because without them he’s just been.
I made it through the first five mins. and 30 sec. But when I watched the guy hiding behind the tree, and an Indian tracking him in 12" of snow a just past him right up! That was enough for me. I could track someone in the snow out in the middle of nowhere! Turn off all western even if I'm kind of interested if they do something real dumb, like shoot over six times with a six shooter. Time for me to search for another movie.

Well, I noticed how perfectly sawn the ends of the logs were and his horse didn't respond at all when he petted it.

I agree mostly, with the exception of every close-up of the actors' hands, I knew that they had never really lived the life that they were acting.

I've had a few guns in my life. One was stolen in a burglary. I sold one of them.
I don't remember what happened to most of them.
@derekpaye1484 I don't need a gun or bow. I'm like McGuyver, I have more brains than you and a Swiss Army knife.
Great acting. Great scenery. Well done 8/10🇦🇺❤️
I give it 8.5/10 ! Worth watching & no commercials! 🖤
@australianwoman9696 Hello, how are you, my dear
That's the only reason it's an 8/10 cause there were no commercials. Me personally, I gave it a 5/10.

A fire outdoors in wintertime would always be placed near a big rock or a big tree for reflection of the heat and as a protection against strong wind.
like he did
I seem to recall the story where a guy places a fire next to a tree and it doesn't turn out well😂
What about the snow on the branches.. read Jack London's "to build a fire"

Those canteens are not vintage reproductions. Stainless steel liners, plastic caps and vinyl covers.
Ha. I learned from a movie that in 1864 carpenters installed windows in a house before the roof and siding was sometimes installed from the top down.
Is the name of this movie really Hailstorm from 2021 because I cannot find that anywhere
That's because the real name of this movie is Iron Brothers from 2018 and it's a really great movie.
