THANK YOU! I just got a cork holder and ended up sticking the nib into the middle part. I quickly realized something wasn't right because my nib was wiggled. But I couldn't figure out for the life of me how else to stick it in. Never realized it had to be the opening of the metal ring. So thank you so much!
Thank you for explaining how the prongs on a straight holder works. I had never heard about the opening in the ring. I have a question: you grab the nib flat. I've normally tried to insert mine by holding the sides at the insert 'indent' above the tines. what is the safest (for the nib)? Thanks
I am going to calligraphy part of having my own art studio one day. Do you mix your own ink? How average how much did you spend on supplies? What is your advise for people who have a budget?
It seems my Flange "opening" is way too tight to insert Nib (that came WITH the Oblique so I know its supposed to fit?) Not sure if I should try to pry it open a bit wider with Paper Clip or bigger Nib. :( Too bad this is an old Video post so doubt a response or helpful hint from anyone.
I inherited an old speedball set from my godmother & I'm having problem inserting a speedball nib to a speedball straight holder so I wrap the nib in wires around the holder. It was good enough (for me) but it bothers me that I use to watch my godmother write names in diplomas when I was in kindergarten (before there was even Window 3.11 that you have a printing press print a blank form) & sometimes she would teach me how to use it just to used up the ink in the bowl...I just dont remember her wiring the nibs nor using adjustable or adjusted holder but I cant figure out bow the hell she inserted it!!!
Yes! IMPORTANT Distinction on the Straight Pen - when inserting the Nib below the Ring Opening, place IN FRONT of the internal Prongs, NOT between! Nib Base should be flush with the internal Tube. Due to my impatience & not knowing this helpful Video, I learned the hard way and ruined my very first Straight Pen :(

Great information well presented, thank you. Question: are there Oblique holders for left handed folk like myself & for Quill nibs? Thank you.
I thought it might be dull, but you filled 9 minutes good stuff. Thanks.
I am completely new.
Why do you prefer the Blackwell oblique over the hourglass adjustable oblique?
Also, any suggestions on ink?
Thanks Shinah!
