- I’m very pleased with the Bear Creek Arsenal 17HMR upper and would not hesitate to buy one again. This is a great upper and performed very well. I couldn’t find any faults, and I was trying hard. Between running it with no lubrication and hunting, it performed very well. The accuracy is great and beyond what I expected for $350. The fit and finish of the upper are good; there were no issues there. As my first product from Bear Creek, I’m very pleased.

Good shooting, and it's pretty accurate too. Hog with 17HMR takes some skill ;)
Mayor Fuglycool
If i can take down grown ass moose with mine its got to be easy for me to take down these Hogs!
I once heard of an elephant that was killed with a .22 rf.
Appreciate the review and very happy to see and hear about your results. Recently bought one of their 17 HMR 20" SS uppers and a 22 Mag 20" Blue upper. Haven't had the chance to shoot them yet, still collecting ammo.
All the best
Great review. Just picked one up to go with my 22 and 22 mag upper. It was on sale and only $207 for the 16" side cocker. Remove the plastic pin limiter inside those mags and it will hold 14rnds.
I like how you can see your heartbeat in the reticle.
Jeramy; I know a little bit about 17 hmr auto-loading rifles.
The cases with the bulged rim are from pressure fluctuations in the tiny bottlenecked cartridge, among other things. The cracked necks are from old stock brass hardening, and the loose neck dimensions on typical chambering reamers.
The 17 HMR is capable of amazing accuracy. I love the cartridge too.
Thanks for the info. You are the godfather of 17 HMR autos. Thanks for taking a look at the video. I'm honored.
Thanks for the cartridge bulge explanation. Bought one on a whim bout a year ago. No experience with 17 Hmr and I haven’t shot more than a few rounds through it. But I did have a few bulging cartridges. Thought maybe the gun had a chamber spec issue. Thanks again for the info, I’m a bit relieved and I’ve finally got some time to spend getting to know the rifle and the caliber.
@@kjaxxn - The chamber pressure on a 17HMR can vary from 22,000psi-28,000psi the straight blowback can not be balanced to handle that extreme variation.
I am working with Rock River to get my roller locked delayed blowback on the market. Should be in a month or so.
We set world records and beat everyone: pretty-much. 😎
@@michaelgarrow3239 outstanding, I’ll be keeping an eye out.
Thanks for the Retrowave, made the video feel good to watch. 👍🏿👍🏾👍🏽👍👍🏼👍🏻🇺🇸
Didn't even know this was a thing. Glad I came across this. Especially since Franklin came out with the 17WSM, but it's impossible to find.
I have the same upper I’m shooting three-quarter inch groups at 100 yards consistently with it long as the wind isn’t blowing wind really affects this round but I love it
Good Presentation & content. Really enjoyed it.
Got one the other day.Picked it up out of the box.Hanged guard barrel that rolled toward ranch.Had a tear it all down rebuild it
I’ve have several bolt guns that crack the case necks with Hornady ammo. I don’t think I’ve had a cracked case with CCI
I’ve had them with CCI, Hornady and Winchester
22mag is tons of fun. Buffer spring has more recoil than the round. Chasing moving targets easy with both eyes wide open
Mine came with the complete upper, buffer, buffer spring, and a 10 round magazine.
Mine as well when you shoot it can you hear the buffer spring ?
@DirtBikeDrew7 to be honest, I haven't shot it yet. I've been busy with non-stop stupid life stuff.
@@ssrevo007 I put a muzzel brake on it and don't hear the spring. But I also put a carbon buffer and spring in it. Because the brass was bulging do to to fast of an ejection. It cycles good and the bulging at the base has almost disappeared. I'm going to put a little more weight in the buffer and see if it slows down a little more to get rid of the bulging all together. I also run CCI but I have hornady ammo to try yet.
Really want a .17HMR upper for my AR, because I am all ready buying that caliber for my Ruger Precision. Love my Ruger. Quarter size groups at 100 yds, no problem (calm day). Using the same ammo as in the video. 17gr Hornady VMAX. I wish I had made a video of one trip. I had two different CCI ammos, Hornady VMAX, and some Remington. Super bad gusting winds that day. The CCIs and Remington were grouping about the size of a baseball, the Hornady grouped in a straight horizontal line about 3 inches across. The wind blew the shots side to side, but elevation was less than 1/2 inch difference in 5 shots. To bad I cant post pics of the targets.
I can't get mine to cycle using the included buffer and spring.
I just got my bca 17 and the side charging handle has broken off . I only have bout 2/3 boxes of ammo through it . I’m trying to get in touch with them now .
I have an Alexander Arms .17hmr AR. I wonder how they both compare. Mine has probably over 1000 rounds and still supper accurate. It’s also California legal.
Where did you get yours?
If you take the mag a part like going to clean it and cut the 2 tabs off inside it will take 14 rounds
James you are a gentleman and a scholar. This is great information!
@@InternationalSportsman I did to mine too try it and works great. And I am very happy with my upper
Someone needs to replace their IR on that initial video, the NV image is terrible. The stock IR from ATN is terrible. Great scopes though
great video! what was the distance on that hog? It looks like your crosshairs were actually aiming a bit below the ear down by its eye, has that been your go to aiming point when using the 17hmr?
Hog was 85 yards. The gun was sighted in for 100 so I aimed low so I wouldn't shoot over it.
@@InternationalSportsman excellent shooting! I have been contemplating on getting this upper or the ruger precision 17hmr
New subscriber!! What is distance you are shooting and what is scope u are using and approximate price, and if you don’t mind what is your total in price for that rifle? Thanks great video!
100 yards on most shots. The scope is an ATN X-sight and the rifle is a Bear Creek Arsenal 17HMR. The scope is about $700 and the rifle upper is around $250. You can find both on their sites.
I would buy one if they start making them in pencil barrel or lite weight versions
I definitely agree with you
The only complaint I’ve ever had was the side charging uppers are heavy and the heavy weight barrels are also heavy
I guess they run them that way to save money and give us shooters a better price
@@Bones6987bull barrel plays a roll in accuracy , eliminate harmonics in the barrel , I’ll take accuracy over weight all day .
Nancy boy
Check out that group!
What scope do you use to take the video through it?
I bought a CMMG 22LR conversion....NEVER AGAIN! Insane jamming problem. The biggest issue is that the magazines just did not fit snugly in the S&W MP15 lower. I put some tape on them to make them tighter, but it did not work. I spent another $100 (S&W MP/22 magazines and adaptor) to be able to get it down to one jam per magazine. Another $100 and I could have bought a S&W MP15/22. Still with the 1/9 twist it shoots like s**t.
I really want a .17HMR upper for my MP15, so my question is: Are the magazines just .17HMR versions of the same that CMMG sells with their conversions.
Anybody have experience with the BCA .17HMR with MP15? Thanks.
Most .22 semi autos are shit.
@@chrispoole8630 I have since bought the 17HMR upper and I love it. It is not as accurate as my Ruger Precision .17HMR, but it is not far off. I have the BCA upper with the 20" stainless steel barrel. Will be buying the 20" SS 22WMR in about 3 weeks, if available. If the 20" SS is not available I will be getting another RPR in 22WMR.
BTW the best ammo I have used so far in .17HMR is 17gr Hornady V-Max.
Also, BCA did not have the magazines in stock, so I had to order from the manufacturer. All they had was the 10rd. It appears to be the same design as the CMMG, but it was a purple translucent plastic. It appeared to be the same as their 14rd (not in stock), but with a pin molded in to keep the follower from going fully to the bottom. Once I get some more magazines, I am going to remove the pin and see if I can increase the capacity to 14.
Bro that scope looks expensive lol but I’m actually waiting for my 300 blk out upper to arrive I honestly can’t wait
You will love the 300blk. Mine is awesome
@@misterx8592 yea I absolutely love the 300 blackout I actually have a 5.56 and a 50 Beowulf upper on the way now lol
Why only 10brd mags?
Do they make other brand magazines?
No.
Wish they had the 16” in stock. I can’t do a pistol lower in Commifornia.
I bought the 17hmr upper when it first came out. My second bca upper. On my .17. The buffer spring that came with the upper when I shoot it I can hear the spring in it. Do you hear yours ? Not sure why mines like that but shoots good with out any issues.
I have found it depends on what buffer tube I'm using. I think it has more to do with that than the spring but I can't say for sure. A captured buffer would fix it but I'm not sure if they go light enough.
Oh you can definitely hear it doing its work when you're firing
I just bought this, does your bolt catch work? My bolt catch stops the bolt too far forward so it actually partially chambers another round. Not sure what's going on there. Am I missing something?
I address that in the video. The bolt catch will not lock back all the way due to how the bolt is. It locks half way for a hold open at a range etc. but you still have to rack it. On empty it locks on the mag.
@@InternationalSportsman thank you!
Bought the HMR 17 upper from bear creak had no mag with it watch other RUclips video said they send them with them. Went to the website to order one and non in stock wtf? Any other mags work with them? Such a disappointment
Their site says the mags are separate, and that's why I said in the video they don't come with them. Black Dog Machine makes the mags, and they are in stock. Plus they have different capacities.
@@InternationalSportsman are they the 22 magnum magazines?
@@usmcwaterrescue Yes
I too ordered the upper and discovered they NO LONGER include a magazine as it should. Also saw no stock for the Mags.. VERY POOR marketing concept for a good company that I shop with often. I did find the Black Dog 14 round mags and ordered 3 . BTW the mags arrived faster than the upper. I dont understand selling a product that the customers need to search out parts to use....
@@bobkirkpatrick4638 They say on the product page that it doesn't include a mag. Things go in and out of stock. I have seen the mags for sale on the site recently. I'm not defending them just saying sometimes things are out of stock.
Can I use any ar15 lower with this upper
Yes
Does the buffer come with it??
Yes
Mixing straight blow-back and .17 HMR is just asking for case ruptures. You really need a delay mechanism for it to be safe. As much as I'd like an affordable upper in .17 HMR to slap on an AR, this is a hard pass for me.
I will point out that the ammo that had issues was older. I read an article that 17 HMR will have these issues if it is a few years old. www.varminter.com/be-careful-when-shooting-old-17-hmr-ammunition/
@@InternationalSportsman There may be ammunition problems too, but there's a reason Remington recalled all its 597's in .17 HMR and Ruger abandon development of the 10/17.
I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised that as the springs wear over time, you see case blowout/ruptures with that upper just like many others have experience with their blow-back .17 HMR's.
Anyways, did you use the same 17 grain V-max load for the hogs that you tested with?
@@OceanKing6725 I did use the same 17gr load on the hogs.
@@InternationalSportsman I just had issues with some older Hornady VMax and I sent it back and they sent me new ammo. They had some bad lots a few years back but the new ammo has been good to me
@OceanKing6725 not any more dangerous than shooting 5.7x28, worst case the 17hmr case stretches and you get delayed blowback that way its same way the 5.7 does it
Thats what im talkin about!!! Why do I see ppl using 300 win mags on these 🐷? Hahaha
you wouls sell a tons of it in europe! Just sayin
❤️🔥🇺🇸
The democrats would call this an assault rifle just because of the grip and the stock and a silencer
More like anyone who doesn't know guns, not just one party lmao
@@cooljames8950 true that, but it seems that the democrats are the most squeaky wheel
I agree, yet ironically rimfire is exempt from assault weapon laws in California. So 22/22wmr/17hmr Ar's in CA don't have to go featureless or maglocked.
Squirrel Assault Rifle (SAR) 😂
I personally bought a bear creek 17 hmr. There customer support sucks. They will not answer the phone and will only give general emails. There video states clearly a clip will be included with a 17 upper and they do not include one and are sold out and will not give you one when emailed about it. Trash company be warned and spend your money elsewhere.
Actually I specifically say the magazine is not included at 1:20. On their site as well it says the magazine isn't included. I can't speak to their customer service.
Waaaa….waaa…..
a kit without a mag ..total b/s screw bear creek
