You can hear him playing a little piece of “Loudmouth” by the Ramones towards the end. There’s a story that when Sid got that record he stayed up all night learning those bass lines and that’s how he taught himself bass.
@@Heneggsboss they were a band before Maclaren ever got involved. Steve Jones asked Malcolm to manage them. Malcolm convinced them to take John as their lead singer and he gave them clothes and suggested song ideas (which they mocked, he wanted a song about bondage and submitting and they came up with Submission). Why dummies like you still parrot the nonsense about Malcolm creating them is beyond me. Brian Epstein told the Beatles how to look and act. The Who’s manager suggested things for Townshend to write about and was responsible for their look. The Stones’ manager did the same thing. It’s what managers do or did back then. But Malcolm had nothing to do with the actual music....he didn’t create Steve or John or their attitudes.
one of the most inspiring and influential musicians of all time, he was a member of one of the most famous bands of all time despite the fact that he could not play his instrument for shit
Nothing wrong with his playing, from what I could hear. No timing issues. All of his notes were consistent. Job done. Jaco Pastorius he is not, but the Sex Pistols were no Weather Report, either, so what’s the problem? Sid has been dead for nearly 40 years now so his playing isn’t gonna make much improvement. It was what it was. Stop picking on the bloke.
If Sid was a drummer, everyone was a drummer. Every human has tapped something at some point in their life. Sid was neither a drummer, nor a bass player. He was a dope addict who wanted attention.
Sid has always been a source of inspiration to me, he showed me how it is possible to become great at something while being really shit at it too, all it takes is not trying and not giving a flying fuck about anything.
Something about Sid Vicious covered in blood holding a bass just makes me want to practice more and buy a p bass! Side Note: Sid plays Ramones better than I do, probably because I try to to hard.
He is the Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jordan,, Mozart of punk rock. Who the hell cares how he plays, he is exactly how a punk rock artist should be, doesn't have what it takes to learn an instrument in "decent" level. He didn't even see the 27 club. His mom, his girlfriend, style, attitude, drug addiction, wrong decisions, tendency to violence but also being fragile at the same time...The most iconic punk rock artist of all time
If THIS is what the most iconic punk artist of all time is, then that really puts punk in a terrible, terrible light. You’re telling me a guy who barely knew how to pick up a bass is THE MOST ICONIC!? Come on, get out of here with that crap. Stop glorifying this lifestyle, he was a broken soul that was doomed from the beginning. It isn’t cool and it certainly isn’t ‘iconic’ not even in the slightest bit.
Sid wasn’t the greatest musician, but he was the undoubted image of punk; when you ask people what they think of punk they most probably think of Sid and that’s why he’s an icon; a tragic tale, RIP.
Better to be an Icon than just another Bassist........The only other Iconic Bassist to come to my mind immediately would be John Entwistle of The Who,and most people have no idea what he looked like;whereas show anyone in the world a picture of Sid Vicious and they`ll know exactly who it is immediately.....Icon & Legend.
For Lemmy, as a young man who I can’t imagine was exactly “sober” to say and I’m paraphrasing here “It was impossible to teach Sid music”….I can’t imagine how many times Lemmy said “no this fret, wrong finger, next string, no not quite” . Now that had to be a sight!
I kind of honestly look up to him in a way - despite his whole background and all the negative aspects - but coming from myself who's dream has always been to be in a band, and seeing someone like him who came from a background similar to my own with no talent or experience, is a bit inspiring in a way
It's what Punk was all about not being perfect but being alternative being yourself making the music industrially and Rock 'N' Roll upside down to create it your own sound and a purpose of a statement 😎🔗🔒🖇
*PUNK* is a Journalistic term created by the media to categorise (pigeonhole) something to sell to idiots and *make money.* No band worth its salt then had a bar of the term (which is also prison/street slang for a piece of rubbish, basically) *unless* they wanted instant glory.
He did his job of showing us that anyone can be in a band. However, we would have no Sex Pistols if the rest of the band was as bad as him. You also contradict yourself, Andy. You said punk was about creating your own sound. The guy didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. Musicians create sounds. This guy couldn't express himself with sound if he wanted to. The sound you hear on Sex Pistols songs isn't even him playing.
Yup. A bunch of dumb assholes in the U.K. said “HEY let’s be a band and purposely sound like fucking shit for the sole purpose of being different!” And now we have mumble rappers getting paid millions, while people that can actually play an instrument aren’t getting SHIT. Really great thing punk rock, and others, did for the music business! You don’t have to be talented anymore to be a famous musician! So awesome! Basically anyone putting 10000+ hours into practicing an instrument are wasting their fucking time! I can’t thank you fuckin “noise” idiots enough for ruining music. If you don’t like music, don’t ruin it for everyone else. You wanna hear noise? Go work at a goddamn factory or something. When you hear a music note in a song, do you just get pissed? …. and told him that he would NEVER be a bass player! 😂
It’s funny cuz the sex pistols only released 1 album and he only recorded bass on bodies if I’m not mistaken, and yet he’s the most iconic member by far.
Ladies and Gentleman, the bassist that started all those bass player jokes.
A band with Sid Vicious, Lars Ulrich and Tom Delonge ❤️
And yoko ono
And Emanuel Aguilar on lead guitar
tre cool on the vocals
@@Ellanvannin03 😂😂😂
No, Sid and Lars don’t mix
Didn’t know he could play this good to be honest
🤣🤣🤣
fr i thought he’d be worse
I wouldn’t say Sid is the best at bass but he is one of my favorites.
He couldn't play. McLaren chose him because of his looks and attitude. Indeed that's what made the band famous
They were famous before Sid.
Statement is half ass. He played the bass good enuff & it worked good enuff obviously or this video would not exist
Bil Ray
This video exists cause he's edgy and you kids get off on that
En Ragé I just watched another video where someone said McLaren would often unplug Sid.
Nobody took care of him, he was exploited and pressed like an orange for its juice. Today I'm a father of 2 boys and I realize how tragic the story of this young John Ritchie was. A boy who craved for love and attention but all he got was more drugs and boundless chaos. He should have been hospitalized on a locked ward already at Christmas 1977, but we all know what happened instead
davie504: sid vicious I challenge *you* to a slapp bass battle!
Sid : Challenge accepted, slap ur bass now davie
Totally overdosed sid: shit I can’t find the face.
@@actualmaddy wtf
Sid was charismatic and beautiful.
He sucked at bass but what a great punk rocker
Hell yea! Certainly no one LOOKED better!
Darby Crash looked better
Great POS junkie
Nope
Sucking at music is a prerequisite for being in a punk band
Lemmy tried teaching him. He refused to listen
Is that true? Lol
Even his best friend, John Lydon, called him tone deaf. He was right. Sid, didn't play a note on the 'Bollocks album- all Steve Jones.
At least he record the "Bodies"
i thought glen matlock actually played bass on the album??
He played on "Bodies" but still the bass was overdubbed by Jones
Matlock only plays on Anarchy in the UK, which was recorded and released as a single months before he was replaced by Sid.
@@effiemars_ No it wasn't - watch the NMTB documentary from the Classic Albums series. The producer says the bass on Bodies is Sid and that he is possibly on God Save The Queen, as well.
It shows that he really liked playing bass. He had a great potential, he was really into it.
Looks like he hated it and had NO POTENTIAL AT ALL
I don't hate sid but this is a prime example of having the look and going far. 90% of the musicians today are like this😭
ironic
Just imagine if Lemmy had been the Pistols bass player!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t think it would of made any difference to be honest . The pistols had Glen who could play and Write songs . Sid was brought in for the Image and To sell the Band And Product . But ...!!!!!!!!!!!! Sid accomplished that and put the pistols in to Super Stardom at the time . God Bless him . Cook jones Matlock and rotten/ Lyndon have done very well out of Sid till this day !
Steve would have had to dial up a little more distortion to compete with Lemmy's monster tone!
Cliff Hanley you are correct and I did word my comment wrong . ... Sid 1st joined the Band as he was Johns Mate . But let’s not forget Sid Made the Band , and the appeal to the Pistols or what everyone wanted to see was Sid and Johnny
I love Lemmy. But, no.
lemmy was hired to teach Sid, he said after a few days he could play the whole set and even threw in a few runs here and there. Says he caught up with him a few weeks later and he was back on the horse and couldn't play a note HAHA!
lemmy loved Sid and was sad about him when he died whilst all the other "legitimate" rockers that never met him LOVED it.
The run-through of "Down to the Basement" at 1:36 sounds pretty competent. When he wasn't jumping around or strung out he seemed to be able to play okay.
this is probably the first time i've heard anyone play bass incorrectly
Good God......what mastery he had over the instrument
You can hear him playing a little piece of “Loudmouth” by the Ramones towards the end. There’s a story that when Sid got that record he stayed up all night learning those bass lines and that’s how he taught himself bass.
The fact he couldn't play bass is the epitome of punk, it's the most punk thing ever! The Sex Pistols weren't posers
Thats such fucking stupid logic. Punk is about DIY, not about being inept
They were a pop band, manufactured by Malcolm McLaren to take advantage of a burgeoning taste for 'punk' rock imported from the US.
But Malcolm had nothing to do with the actual music....he didn’t create Steve or John or their attitudes.
yes he did. he created everything about them. john lydon's actual accent speaks with a received pronunciation..
They where nothing but posers
He can't play bass, but he's one of the most iconic bass player of the history of music, i don't know why
Reminds me of the time I bought my dog a saxophone.
He might not have been able to play the bass but boy could he swing one 😂
😂😂
Yeah but not like Paul Simonon
one of the most inspiring and influential musicians of all time, he was a member of one of the most famous bands of all time despite the fact that he could not play his instrument for shit
You can actually tell it's Simon Ferocious playing the bass
Nothing wrong with his playing, from what I could hear. No timing issues. All of his notes were consistent. Job done. Jaco Pastorius he is not, but the Sex Pistols were no Weather Report, either, so what’s the problem?
Sid has been dead for nearly 40 years now so his playing isn’t gonna make much improvement. It was what it was. Stop picking on the bloke.
Robert Gee his playing was very simple and he often wouldnt fret notes properly
Sid makes the rest of the band sound like weather report.
No timing issues? Are you kidding? LOL. A 4-year-old knows there are timing issues.
If Sid was a drummer, everyone was a drummer. Every human has tapped something at some point in their life. Sid was neither a drummer, nor a bass player. He was a dope addict who wanted attention.
ScoffSlaphead72 he hadn’t been playing for long and when someone says ‘ere, Sid, you’re playing this’ and hands him a bass, he did his best.
Lydon just giving him grief the whole time😂😂
Lemmy said him "You can't play bass" Sid said "I know"
Other way around
Sid has always been a source of inspiration to me, he showed me how it is possible to become great at something while being really shit at it too, all it takes is not trying and not giving a flying fuck about anything.
He wasnt great in anything. Roadies played his parts live and he didnt record a thing 😂 he was plain Bad.
This sounds like a three year old who just started messing around on his daddy's bass guitar 😂
SID WAS THE VERY BEST BASS PLAYER TO EXIST EVER. PERIOD.
you clearly doesn't understand nothing about bass
"You just pick a chord, go twang, and you're got music"
this makes me feel like a world class bassist.
still have so much respect for this man.
What a player...... pure genius
He was pale and scrawny but somehow good lookin.
Apparently someone cannot be scrawny and good looking...
So what if he was pale and scranny?
He's still missed even today, no one comes even close , R.I.P Sid .
Stupidest comment ever posted on facebook!
Great classic photos!
Something about Sid Vicious covered in blood holding a bass just makes me want to practice more and buy a p bass!
Side Note: Sid plays Ramones better than I do, probably because I try to to hard.
I bought my p bass yaaayy
Jairo Martinez-Ortiz this made me so happy my friend...😄
Cheers from Houston, Texas!✌🏽👏🏽
CHlEFFIN thanks bro
Jairo Martinez-Ortiz Yeah That classic photograph alright!
Jairo Martinez-Ortiz Just batter in. Fuck the neighbours.
He is the Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jordan,, Mozart of punk rock. Who the hell cares how he plays, he is exactly how a punk rock artist should be, doesn't have what it takes to learn an instrument in "decent" level. He didn't even see the 27 club. His mom, his girlfriend, style, attitude, drug addiction, wrong decisions, tendency to violence but also being fragile at the same time...The most iconic punk rock artist of all time
Fuck this dude he murdered his girlfriend Nancy
Sid shoulda been a cowbellist instead.
@ or Triangle or Tambourine with no bells!!
Potato 🥔 peeler
Sid 2nd To None
🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
When people said that he couldn't play bass I thought they were kidding........
Sadly they weren't
bullcrap
He really could play when he was sober. Saddest story to me in music
I start listening to John Entwistle playing isolated bass. Somehow I ended up here.
Seeing both ends of the bass spectrum.
🤣🤣🤣
For Lemmy, as a young man who I can’t imagine was exactly “sober” to say and I’m paraphrasing here “It was impossible to teach Sid music”….I can’t imagine how many times Lemmy said “no this fret, wrong finger, next string, no not quite” . Now that had to be a sight!
Era un chingon ese SID
Feels like im back working at guitar center
*_the horror....._*
Well that about sums him up. Better than I thought lol.
His New Year’s resolution was to learn a 2nd chord on the guitar.
"It's just punk rock man... You don't gotta know how to play you just got a be a punk... we can do that!" - Cheech & Chung -
Everytime I think I suck at bass I just watch this, I even got a replica of his necklace to remind me.
if Sid was in a jazz band, he would be considered the greatest jazz bassist in history.
Lemmy Kilmister try to teach Sid how to play the Bass but gave up since Sid was unteachable.
According to Lemmy, Sid approached him and said " I can't play bass " and Lemmy responded " I Know "
I like that some of the recording of “Sid play the bass” is him tuning it up and even that he’s doing poorly.
I kind of honestly look up to him in a way - despite his whole background and all the negative aspects - but coming from myself who's dream has always been to be in a band, and seeing someone like him who came from a background similar to my own with no talent or experience, is a bit inspiring in a way
@ 1:19 guy in the background sums it up perfectly.
Lars ulrich and sid will be the best duo in history
For Sid the bass was more of a stage prop.
Does it turn you off? “Did I just hear a C#? Burn this fucking album” But anyway, thanks again for being the reason mumble rap exists.
EddieMachetti damn bro calm your tits
Damn fucking roasted
Sid Vicous worst enemy is the metronome
Used to warm up to Blitzkrieg apparantly
00:00 i thought that was blitzkrieg bop covered by him
In fact it was loud mouth 🤣🤣
That was loudmouth
2:19 "now i wanna sniff some glue" or "lucy in the sky with diamonds" 😂
Everyone’s talking about sids playing but that guitar needs to be tuned up
He makes playing bass seem fun
