What a song! What a performance! Faultless. And I bet Barry Gibb got a real kick out of an Aussie lad singing this classic BG’s song to him. Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻
Keith absolutely CRUSHES this classic tune. The Bee Gees were big when I was growing up and To Love Somebody got a lot of airplay. Bee Gees are legendary and Keith is right there with them. What a fantastic version of this tune!!
The Beegees were brilliant and prolific songwriters. A lot of their best material came earlier and is overshadowed by their disco catalog. (I like the disco stuff, too - just not as much). Well worth exploring their old tunes. And this version of To Love Somebody is incredible. Wow.
You betcha! Been hooked on Keith since 2002, seen him about 18 times, a couple meet and greets in there, and yes, he is the greatest! Never fails to give his fans a great show!
Keith took this beautiful song to a whole new level. I have always been a fan of the Bee Gees early music and this song has always been a favorite. It's been covered many times by many artists but NEVER as great as THIS! The passion that Keith has for music is just soooo apparent in every performance he does!!! As a person who has also always had a passion for music, trust me, Keith's guitar skills are never lost on me. The guy is blessed in more ways than one!!!!
"If you can't sing it with one instrument - a guitar and a voice, a piano and a voice - you don't have a real tune". Dude, no truer words have ever been spoken.
This was my mother and I’s first dance at my wedding song! The Bee Gees version. I fell in love because the revivalists used to cover it. Keith kills this
Keith always amazes. It seems he can sing and play just about anything. He thrives on creativity with endless passion for music and talent. A true blessing to us.
#1) I'm shocked MP didn't know this song, but it's also so cool to see the expression on his face (or anyone) when they discover something so great like this, and it happens to all of us, b/c nobody has heard everything. #2) Barry Gib said that if he had to choose just one song that he'd written, it would be this one. #3) Keith absolutely nailed it. I don't like a decent amount of Keith's music, for various reasons - but when he nails one, which is often enough for me to always keep paying attention, he is as good as it gets, between his emotion, quality vocals, and a great feel for dynamics and nuance, rhythm, and killer chops. Love it.
I have always loved this song! Of course, it was filled with the BeeGee's beautiful harmonies. Keith does a GREAT VERSION of it. He is a master in himself. Great singer and great guitarist!
MICHAEL, Thank you! You probably won’t read this comment, but I have been listening to this song and video for over two years and you have put into words exactly the way I feel. So glad I found this video. I will be a new subscriber and can’t wait to learn. Thank you for giving this video. The recognition it deserves.
Fortunately there is no such thing as being late to a great song, the important thing is you found it. The original (covered my countless artists) is an absolute masterpiece. Barry Gibb is unparalleled in terms of vocals and songwriting. This is beyond a clear example of his songwriting and soulful delivery.
I'm so glad to see you do this one! Such a fabulous performance, and it obviously moved the composer! Have a great time at the concert; I'm going on Sunday!
Glad you are going to get to see him live. I had a friend call me and ask if I had plans a few Saturdays ago. I said “no”. He said a mutual friend had 6th row seats to Keith Urban and I bought them from him to see the show in Cincinnati. Keith is high energy all night. He puts on a spectacular show. All of the musicians are true professionals. You will not be disappointed in the least. Enjoy the show. Maybe do a 5 to 10 min vid after the show with your thoughts? I’d be curious to hear.
I was giggling when you asked why don't I know this Bee Gees song. I thought because you're too young. At the time it was played non stop on the radio. I greatly admire Keith Urban too.
Keith is the greatest guitarist alive today. He can play any one's songs, add his licks, and make the original song even better. His singing always reflects the emotion of the songs he sings. He brought Barry Gibbs to tears, as well as many others. He is truly the best guitarist, performer living today. I am glad he finally is recognized for his greatness, for so long I felt he was underrated. Love Keith.❤❤❤
Michael, your eval of to love somebody by keith Urban was amazing!! Thank You. Very incite full. The connection he forges with his audience is something I strive for and have had some success is very small doses but you pointed it out perfectly. Lots of us perform, very few "connect" like Keith.
G'Day Michael... Just found 'your' demonstration "To Love Somebody"... and am 'stunned' at your skills/talents/interpretation and how you share "same"... Thanks... Christie 🤠...
You gotta be kidding, you don't know this song? Kinda cool Keith singing a local, to him, star's song, that being Australia. BeeGees have so many great songs. Keith doing great job here!
Hank Williams Jr. covered this also. It great as well. I remember my father listening to The Bee Gees often in my youth, and this tune caught attention then. It’s been a favorite of mine for many years.
To Love Somebody is a great Bee Gees song! I want to see you react to The Bee Gees’ “ Tragedy”! I think it’s their best song on a musical and a lyrical level!
Yes, it's a great, great song! Keith also sang and played on 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You' in a stunning way, together with Barry on his award winning and Nr. 1 album 'Greefields'. Stephen Stills said, if there's one song, I wished that I had it written, than it's for sure 'To Love Somebody'. Bono titled bros. Gibb as the personified hell for every songwriter, making him green with envy. Big fans of them are for excample Brian Wilson and Noel Gallagher. So you're a pro, I'd like to tellya, I'm playing a 12-string epiphone western-acousticguitar, only to guide my singing with a lil bigger sound. Just a hobby-musician playing to small audiences. Love your reactions, very worthy to listen to. Bee Gees had great leadguitarists! Vince Melouney in the sixties, perfect to hear on songs like 'The Change Is Made', 'The Earnest Of Being George' or 'Idea'. From the seventies up to 2001, Alan Kendall was the man! He's done great jobs on songs like 'Heavy Breathing', 'Down The Road', 'Wouldn't I Be Someone', 'Road To Alaska' or 'Voice In The Wilderness'.
Saw KU last night in Jacksonville. Second ti,e I’ve seen him. He is truly amazing. My top three favorites in concert: KU, Eric Church, Pink! All amazing artists.
If you haven’t followed Keith for the last 20 years, you’ve missed something special. First time I saw him was on his birthday 2002 just before he won the ‘somebody like you’ song of the year in Vacaville. Nuff said!!
Killer interpretation! Another amazing version of this song is Ray Lamontagne & Damien Rice - To Love Somebody (TARATATA Mar. 2007). Definitely worth a listen.
The most wonderful part was barry's face. Most legends would rarely sing a long to most tributes. They've sang the song a thousand times. But right at the start, the way Keith started. That right there, Barry experienced what most of do when a song like that comes on. He catches himself singing and then just focuses on Keith. He's a musician and song writer. He wants to know how Keith is gonna do it, it isnt a karaoke session. This is just beautiful to watch. From Keith's PERFECT pitch, to the arrangement of the song, to Barry sitting there,( to me) in respect of that impeccable performance he had just witnessed. For all the performers at this tribute. CBS did something right.
Funny Side Note..(Worth The Read) In a past life (15 years ago).. I recorded a couple of albums in Nashville. I'll say that I "made it" to AAA ball of the Major Leagues --- A million more were just as close to a record deal as I have been.... but it takes a lot to chase the Dragon's Tail... and I never quite caught it.. But.......I Literally walked in to record a session.... standing outside, while overhearing a "freak", playing guitar for something new... and then realizing it was Brent Mason was recording the session before me. UN-FREAKIN-REAL. But, once my session started (Brent hung around) and the convo started about "the best live performing guitarist" that was a front man "Star" in Country Music -- a few names came up. I thought the consensus would be Brad Paisley for "playing guitar" (he's a monster) for Country music... the producers, the studio musicians, and even Brent Mason himself commented that KEITH URBAN was THE BEST guitar player (who was also a front man Star) in all of Country Music. I started paying more attention... Keith isn't the "chicken picker" that Brad is.... but he IS probably the BEST guitar playing front man in all of country music. You learn a lot listening to others. Be Blessed - Love the Channel.
Michael, by far the greatest lesson delivery on RUclips, I've learned more from your videos than anywhere else, thanks man. Do you have ebooks or lessons outside of the channel?
It is absolutely astounding that you don’t know the song. First it was a world wide hit for The Bee Gees and then there were so many famous covers , not the least of which was Janis Joplin’s and Nina Simone’s famous versions. It was sing around the campfire staple for years sometimes in its original key of A but often in G where it was all cowboy chords. BTW, LOVE the C#9 at 3.45.
Keith gives one thousand and ten percent every performance. He’s one of my all time favorite artists
I’m pumped.
And to know that the final living Bee Gee is in front in the audience watching you.
A great song and a fantastic performance!
Just give Keith Urban the phone book and he will kill it. Mine you, proves what a great songwriter Barry Gibb really is
This performance booked him the opening slot on the Barry Gibb Greenfields album
The magic of Keith is he plays for the song. He never overplays. Seen him 11 times and will go see him again when I get a chance. Great video
Luv,Luv Him!
Yeah - great song.
Keith is on a whole different level & he does his own thing
One his greatest performances ever! Keith has a gut filled passion for his craft.
The Beegees were brilliant and prolific songwriters. A lot of their best material came earlier and is overshadowed by their disco catalog. (I like the disco stuff, too - just not as much). Well worth exploring their old tunes. And this version of To Love Somebody is incredible. Wow.
Keith crushes just about everything he does. Never heard a stinker from him.
We need him around for a long time. ❤😊❤😊
You betcha! Been hooked on Keith since 2002, seen him about 18 times, a couple meet and greets in there, and yes, he is the greatest! Never fails to give his fans a great show!

The Bee Gees version is insane. Beautiful. Their best. Urban does it justice. Dude can sing and play. This was awesome.
Keith is in the master class of guitar players! His "It's a Man's World" is pure magic!!
Thank God x voice of Keith Urban.Fabulos ❤
This was written for Otis Redding who died before he could record it. Would have loved to hear that.
I didn't know that, it does sound very soulful. Damn, wish I could hear Otis sing it. But at least we got to hear Michael Bolton do it.
"If you can't sing it with one instrument - a guitar and a voice, a piano and a voice - you don't have a real tune". Dude, no truer words have ever been spoken.
I'd never heard that said before but it has been my own belief for a long time.
1000 &1% plus,Keith greatness -beyond goose bumps!!!
1000& 10% +
I love the crowds reaction to his solo too....they were blown away just as much as we are
Keith is one of the greats, ain't no doubt. love his Ranch stuff from back in the day.
This was my mother and I’s first dance at my wedding song! The Bee Gees version. I fell in love because the revivalists used to cover it. Keith kills this
You will live the original and probably appreciate Keith even more after that! ❤️
Keith always has the best tone. Vocally and guitar wise!
I love how you taste amazing music like it's delicious food. Your passion is contagious. And what a performance by Keith Urban.
Yep, Keith is that friggin good. He's loved around the world, and still probably underrated. Love his singing. Love his guitar playin, he is AWESOME.
Love this version by Keith Urban.
Was actually watching this video of Keith doing this song justice yesterday morning. Hits you in the feels for sure.
Kieth is a very special artist...💯🙌💓
Saw Keith at the Blossom in Cuyahoga Falls earlier this tour. He sounded great and as always gave it his all.
Keith always amazes. It seems he can sing and play just about anything. He thrives on creativity with endless passion for music and talent. A true blessing to us.
You wont be dissappointed - saw him several times - he has such a great stage presence and his band is off the hook good
Truly a masterful performance by Urban. Fantastic.
Mike, your reaction is why you have such a great channel. Awesome!!!
I have always loved this song! Of course, it was filled with the BeeGee's beautiful harmonies. Keith does a GREAT VERSION of it. He is a master in himself. Great singer and great guitarist!
Solo gave me chills
i literally thought “how does he not know this song” hahaha 😆😆😆
I could listen to and watch Keith Urban play his guiltier all day and night.💙
Keith's one of my favorite guitarist of all time. Amazing talent.
How about reaction on Paul Kossoff from the band Free.
Seeing Keith sing live its amazing because you can’t imagine what a gifted guitarist he is especially when he sings Stupid Boy
goosebumps when he started the lead
I’ve played and sang this song a thousand times over the years… Keith gave the solo a Prince Vibe. ❤️✅ Great song ✅

It’s off their 1st album in 1967. It was written specifically for Otis Redding, but the died before he could record it.
This is one of my favourite ever covers, Keith just nails it
Keith has always been my favorite guitarist. I finally get to see him this year. I can’t wait. Love your videos!

That’s a classic old song, just as great as when the Brothers Gibb wrote it in 1967.
Bee Gees didn't have that same guitar in it. Keith improved this song 100%!
Song released in 1967 and went to number 1.
Covered by lots of folks including Janis Joplin.
P.s. a major fan of the bee Gees is dave grohl.
I was giggling when you asked why don't I know this Bee Gees song. I thought because you're too young. At the time it was played non stop on the radio. I greatly admire Keith Urban too.
Nobody drinks alone is a good unknown Keith urban song with a solo
Keith is the greatest guitarist alive today. He can play any one's songs, add his licks, and make the original song even better. His singing always reflects the emotion of the songs he sings. Barry Gibb sings To Love Somebody along with Jay Buchanan, on his Greenfields album. Pretty awesome too.
Great breakdown, you are on point. Thank you
Good to meet you tonight at Bristow. Fabulous stuff from Keith and the guys.
Great song suggestion. Well done MP - another interesting episode. Thanks!

To Love Somebody is a great Bee Gees song! I want to see you react to The Bee Gees’ “ Tragedy”! I think it’s their best song on a musical and a lyrical level!

Keith Urban OWNED this song with his guitar playing.
Great job breaking this down, MIchael!
I saw this on TV about a year ago. It was great.
If you haven’t followed Keith for the last 20 years, you’ve missed something special. First time I saw him was on his birthday 2002 just before he won the ‘somebody like you’ song of the year in Vacaville. Nuff said!!

Going to be an amazing show tomorrow evening! Hope to cross paths!
Holy cow, never really cared for bee gees, version. Keith Urban got my ear and my foot going. He nailed it,
You want to blow your mind listen to Keith, Vince Gill & Albert Lee

Michael, by far the greatest lesson delivery on RUclips, I've learned more from your videos than anywhere else, thanks man. Do you have ebooks or lessons outside of the channel?
One of the first songs I learned to play and don't forget (Got to get a message to you)
Micheal - anyway to show us how to play this version? It's fantastic!!
It’s off of Bee Gees 1st released in 1967. It was written for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it.

Have you reacted to old keith urban? THe in the ranch days? Absolutely amazing country guitar playing.
The Bee Gees wrote this song for Otis Redding. Sadly, Otis died before he could record it. Can you imagine Otis soulfully singing this?!?
