      Yes, i’m a pharmacy technician in the us and promethazine is by rx only, and that is because it can be abused to make certain recreational drugs (purple drank or lean). my pharmacist recommended for my nausea (i have ibs) the sea bands as well as high strength ginger capsules. i have really bad side effects from promethazine and instead i’ve been on zofran (ondansetron) for a few months, but that’s also only by prescription. some pharmacists say pepto can help sometimes, and that’s over the counter. in humans, though, anti nausea medications just don’t work very well in general. i used to work in vet medicine and there are fantastic anti nausea medications that work very very well in animals, but nothing like that really exists in humans unfortunately.

    Hi Georgina! This was so helpful, thank you so much. I wanted to share that I don't think there is a line for what is common sense or isn't! I am very new to gastroparesis, currently in my 4th (and most severe by far) flare up but but this is the first time I actually have a name for what is going on with my body. Learning from other people's experiences here on RUclips and tiktok has helped me the MOST! More than talking to doctors, or reading online about it. What Im trying to say is that even things that seem common sense, are not common sense for a lot of us! Kind of embarrassing to admit, but it's the truth because with my GP symptoms my normal natural remedies don't work! So please, if you feel like it keep sharing even the tips that seem silly for you to share because you think they're common sense. Im on the other side of the screen watching and full of hope because I found you, who has experienced what I am and it is very helpful to see what works for you. Thank you!

    Hello again Georgina, thanks for your quick response. I wanted to let you know that before my accident I had been told that my bloodwork showed that I had titers which meant I had an autoimmune disorder waiting in the wings. This was told to me when I went for a second opinion as I had been diagnosed with Lupus. Luckily, my back doctor recommended the second opinion as he felt the young doctor had made an improper diagnosis, and had put me on way to many meds. I had to wait 3 months for my second opinion and this dr. told me that I did NOT have Lupus, just yet. But something was lurking about. He then told me the saddest news about all of this is that your doctor wiped out your immune system with all of the meds you have been on. YIKES. So thankfully, I did get off of the meds and a few years later I ended up with my first of five surgeries for endometriosis. This was a time in life that was most difficult due to the constant pain. As it turned out I had so many adhesions and my left ovary kept getting cysts which would rupture. Luckily my second surgeon was a professor at Stanford University and he was able to help me out the most after 2 surgeries which left me in great shape for 15 years. Then, after that the symptoms came back and he fixed me up again. Fast forward to my car accident, and my new complications all started to show up. First, the diabetes and the removal of my gall bladder. Then about five years later I had my first episode of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) which left me in the ICU for six nights. I was so sick they told my boyfriend that I would likely be “dead in bed” by morning had we not gone to the ER. Then, the next diagnosis was . . . Gastroparesis. All of which I had read about but thought that diabetics did not get it until they had been sick for 25 years or more. However, this did explain why I was eating right but could not control my blood sugars due to the Gastroparesis (GP). Well, my body had a different roadmap to follow. My point is that trauma can cause diabetes & gastroparesis. Once I did more research on the GP I realized I had all of the “causes” of getting it. I lost about 60 lbs. and was 2 lbs. away from a feeding tube and they put me on Cymbalta. I gained back all of my weight and another 20 lbs. due to the need for more insulin. During this weight loss I too had a nasty nurse during another episode of DKA and she told me flat out that I was lying when I told her how sensitive I was to fast acting insulin and that my blood sugars had gone as low as 25 one night. She said I would not have been able to walk or talk. So the next day I was asleep and sure enough she gave me 8 units of a fast acting insulin and I woke up and asked what numbers were my blood sugars at? She said, 387. I then asked her, did you really NOT believe me when I told you how sensitive I am, as I had told her that one unit could drop me by 100 points. So basically, she nearly killed me. I told her to get ready as it was going to be a bumpy ride and not pretty. Luckily, my boyfriend showed up just in time to save my life as a petite nurse was trying her best to give me the injection which can bring your sugars up extremely fast (sorry, I cannot think of the name of the medication at this time). But as my boyfriend did take over he was able to get me dosed in time. All of the machines were beeping away and I was about to go into a coma. Same day they gave me a medication (Reglan) which I had told them I was allergic to, but again they did not believe me. The meds make me go spastic for about 6 hours and I look like a marionette puppet. Next, I wake up with a feeding tube down my throat and I am still vomiting. (More faking!!) This was nearly one of the worst stays I have ever experienced. I was so glad to make it home. Recently I was back in the ER for high blood sugars and hovering with another episode of DKA. I asked for my long term insulin (Lantus) which they never gave me and sure enough 8 hours later I was in full on DKA and in need of spending 3 more nights in the ICU. So poor health and bad nursing just don’t go together, do they? So I can only relate to you somewhat even more now. I still deal with the GP and it flares up my incontinence I believe due to the fact that the food is stuck right above my pubic bone and I have a diabetic colopathy right in that area. So one bad accident truly can be a life changer. I see your stories and your friends and I send you an abundance of light and love to keep sharing with each other as you will need it forever!! I am just so glad my accident did not happen until I was 42 and that I was able to have a somewhat active life before then. Now, I am just happy to be well enough to get around some, eat a little, pee a lot and pray for some laughter every day. Now with the Corona virus and being on “Stay in Place” orders I am grateful to already know how to do so without going too crazy. I obviously read over RUclips stories for hope and inspiration. I have now glanced over your videos and I think I am caught up with all that we have somewhat in common!! Thanks for the GP ideas and I love it that you are friends with Izzy as I have followed her story also, along with Hannah. Thank god we have the internet to reach out to those who share similar stories and to keep us filled with some hope and encouragement. Today’s search was all about whether I had missed a new treatment for incontinence and/or GP. I so do not want any further surgeries, but if it is meant to be I know from people like you and your friends, I can do this!! So thanks again for all that you share. You have the same bright light as Izzy and it is a joy to see. Stay well, stay strong and keep up the faith - you are an inspiration to many!! As someone who has had gastroparesis for over 20 years, you may want to give a quick note about other countries and medication availability: Promethazine, Prochlorperazine, & Metoclopramide are available only by prescription in the United States and other countries.
    In the United States, over the counter anti-nausea medications include Diphenhydramine (Benadryl), Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), Doxylamine (Unisom), Meclizine, and Cyclizine -- these are all older antihistamines that are very sedating. You can also get candied Ginger, which is non-sedating, but it may be very spicy and irritating to some people.
    If they are available where you live, a Neurogastroenterologist (doctors that specialize in digestive motility) can be a godsend in diagnosing and treating gastroparesis // nausea.

      Often, the natural tips for nausea can be as effective or more effective than the medications! There's research on ginger being more effective than dramamine in specific, without the drowsy side effects!

    • @ooommm4024
      @ooommm4024 3 года назад

      Promethazine (Phenergan is the name brand) is by prescription only in the united states. A nice perk is that it's also available as an intramuscular injection or, if diluted, an intravenous injection, so you can bypass the digestive system completely. Although intimidating, it has helped me as a plan B choice. This has really helped me avoid wasting time and boatloads of money in emergency room visits // hospitalizations.

    drinking cold soda really helps me bc the sugar helps gives me engery since usually when im sick i don't eat much and the carbonation helps settle my stomach. funny enough diet sodas/drink seem to be a trigger for me. i use peppermint essential oils and it doesn't necessarily help with the nausea but it's makes me feel "fresh" whenever i feel sick n gross. the best prescribed medication i used is called ondansetron. there aren't really any over the counter medications that help me but doing things that help calm down anxiety (taking baths, laying down in quiet rooms, etc) really help bc when im super nauseas i also get really anxious. As for diet i just don't ever eat full meals and instead eat lighter snacks or smoothies even if I'm feeling fine because that helps prevent a flare up for me

      I’m happy to hear that! We don’t have gas x in the U.K. unfortunately & it only helps bloating related nausea, which is quite a specific type (as gas x acts on gas bubbles in the digestive tract only), so a lot of people with chronic nausea wouldn’t get relief from it

      Hahahhahaa the Coke Cola police! That was pretty brilliant. Right now I’m reading “It” by Stephen King but will definitely check out 1984 when I’m done. I think it might of been one of the books the writers from Lost borrowed elements from. Btw kind of random but are you still writing your book? I forget what the name of it so I’ll just refer to it as “Harry and the Heart Attack”.

      You're more brave than me, I won't be reading that for the foreseeable future haha, no way! Is it as creepy as you expected? It could be, it inspired a lot of other books and TV shows! Have you heard of Big Brother? It might just be a British show but it's pretty popular here and is a reality tv show directly based off of it (I've never watched it though). I dip in and out of it, but I haven't properly got back into it for a while! That's a good name for it haha, that actually made me laugh out loud :') And you remembered his name! I'm impressed!

    • @jahimjauh-hey5653
      @jahimjauh-hey5653 5 лет назад +1

      Georgina's Journey Fantasy violence doesn’t upset nearly as much as real life violence so I wouldn’t say it’s too creepy for me even though I could see why it would upset someone else. I want to finish the book before “It 2” the film comes out. I saw part one and it reminded me of a darker Stranger Things so naturally I enjoyed it haha. Also the boy who plays Mike in the show was in “It” as a funny wise cracking kid. I’ve heard of Big Brother... it’s a bunch of strangers living in one house playing different games, right? I’m not a huge reality show person but I’m pretty sure our American version is the same thing. And I’m happy to hear you still occasionally write! I was actually very impressed with what you shared before and randomly thought one day that I hoped you were still at it. You are very talented, Georgie! :)

    Hi I don't have severe nausea or vomiting. But sometimes I can't get out of bed. I mostly have migraine associated nausea and for some reason digestively... If I have a bowel movement I sometimes feel better. Other times it's a dizzy/Vertigo feeling and Benedryl helps that. I know I could try hot coffee instead of iced. I'm sure iced coffee... Depending where the ice is from could have parasites or bacteria that could bother me. Again I'm not in Severe pain or anything. This is occasional (but miserable) nausea since Oct 2020. So for about 7 months.

      Also I found that gel toothpaste makes me sick a lot less often than the regular kind, not sure why but it does! Not sure if others have issues with toothpaste making them sick 🤷🏻‍♀️and for some reason liquid foods like soup and smoothies make me feel a lot more sick than solid ones

    • @GeorginasJourney
      @GeorginasJourney  5 лет назад

      Fiona M are you sure? I dint think we could either, but you can in pharmacies! That’s really good that you have that, zofran is the only thing that works for a lot of people, but it’s so hard to get here unless you have a feeding tube or a cancer diagnosis or something! So I didn’t want to mention that one, as most people wouldn’t be able to get it here :/ Crazy how many people have a prescription for it in America though!

      @GeorginasJourney  5 лет назад

      That's interesting about the toothpaste! And I'm exactly the same with liquid foods (and any liquid tbh!)! But I know a lot of people with gastroparesis usually handle them a lot better and the gastroparesis diet recommends liquid foods, so I thought it could be helpful for people to try since a lot of my viewers either have gastroparesis or are suspected of having it!

    It's not just diet or zero coke that contain a nausea suppressant. The chemical that gives cola it's tangy flavour is food additive e338, also known as phosphoric acid. All varieties of cola contain so much sugar or sweetener that your natural response is to vomit, the additive stops you rejecting all the sugar. Same reason that fast food places push cola as their preferred beverage, to make their food easier to eat without making you sick. If you can't handle the carbonation, either add a small amount of salt to make the cola go flat, or buy the concentrated syrup for the soda machines so you only need a spoonful and there's no bubbles.

      Worst case scenario is the emergency department or A&E. Or you could ask your doctor to prescribe you another anti- sickness tablet for during your flare ups. Eating plain foods like toast, rice, maybe bananas, may help, as well as sleeping/lying propped up on pillows (many find lying on their left side helpful) & you could also try travel sickness wrist bands. • @GeorginasJourney
      @GeorginasJourney  3 года назад

      Only a gastric emptying study would be able to tell you, the tests for that are not invasive, you usually just get scans or alternatively, there’s a pill/capsule you can swallow which records your motility

    • @GeorginasJourney
