Nausea and gastroparesis can indicate cervical instability may be present

  • Ross Hauser, MD discusses one of the awful symptoms many of our patients are facing and why they reach out for help: nausea. This is one of the more commonly occurring, but less commonly discussed, symptoms that are associated with cervical spine instability. Despite visits with multiple GI specialists, dietary changes, supplement use, extreme nausea and inability to digest food may be an ongoing issue until cervical instability is resolved. In this video, Dr. Hauser explains why this happens.

    I was diagnosed with gastroparesis at 19. Life has been a living hell for 17 years. I wish someone could fix me, I'm tired of being sick from the time I go to bed to 4hours after getting up.

    I honestly felt like crying after watching this. I’m a Army Vet in my 30’s and have been going to the VA and private doctors for over a decade and no one has been able to figure out what’s wrong with me. Their answers have been pain meds and muscle relaxers…. You described what I have felt everyday. No one understands… Doctors, friends, or family. This video gives me hope. Thank you so much sir. It means the world to me

      Hi Charlotte, Thank you for your kind words. We definitely get it and hear horror story after horror story from patients trying to "convince" their local doctors that they have these symptoms. To us,, it makes perfect sense once the vagus nerve and cervical instability connection is well understood, but most doctors simply do not specialize in this nor have the passion to master how to treat it. Often, the patients just keep getting referred out because the doctors don't know what to do within the limited treatment options that they offer. Sorry that you have been dealing with this! Our neck center in Florida specializes in turning cases like this around and resolving the cervical instability, when that is found to be the underlying issue. If you ever would like us to review your case to see if you sound like a good candidate for our clinics, please feel free to reach out. Wish you all the best in health!

    You just described my case to a T. I have severe degenerative disc disease, cervical instability, fused from C5 to C7, with a current large herniation C7-T1 , chronic intractable pain AND Gastroparesis diagnosed by the emptying scan which required a pyloroplasty and Nissen fundoplication. Damn! This was a revelation! I also have pulsatile tinnitus. This was the first I’ve heard of a vagal nerve connection. It all makes perfect sense now! I’m scheduled for an ACDF in June. I will discuss this information with my neurosurgeon, GI guy and pain management doc. I’m just blown away. Thank you 🙏

    I just want to stress that the vast majority of people do not associate these problems with issues of the neck/atlas. Ive chatted with over 30 people on reddit that all have similar issues like brainfog, tmj, vertigo! Everyday I'm seeing new posts about this. They're all living in the dark! Only a small number of people know about upper cervical care/prolotherapy being the solution. So please if you can contribute to the /Brainfog /TMJ communities on Reddit! You can really save lives by contributing your knowledge to the world.
    Everybody is simply going to doctors who overmedicate and tell them to go home, it shouldnt be this way! So please if you could spread the world online!
    Thanks again!

      Hi Yohn- good to hear from you. Thank you for sharing that. It is very unfortunate that people spend a lot of time not getting any answers and feeling that managing symptoms with medications and dealing with all the side effects is the only way. We hope that we can continue to help more people understand that there are other options for both diagnosing the problem correctly and then possible treatments. Wish you all the best in health!

      Hi humility1st, so very sorry about the medical care you have been receiving and your doctor not understanding. It sounds like you need to fire your doctor and hire a new one. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome as well, and it's a complex disorder which can affect multiple aspects of the body. Since EDS affects collagen, and collagen is used everywhere in the body, it is a systemic health condition.

    Im so glad you brought up the point of gastroparesis. I would mentioned it to my GI and a neuro surgeon I went to see due to neck pain, which his response to me was pepper in some yoga🙄 and my pain will get better. Needless to say, they laughed at me. They said it had nothing to do with the vagus nerve. In your practice, how do you correct this?

      Talk to your chiropractor next visit (or make an appointment just for this) about the fact that your stomach issue and if he's unaware...hopefully he's not... tell him that it's related to the Vegas nerve and cervical spine and that you'd like help with it.

    I have to take a Percocet until my stomach stops hurting enough to eat if I want the nausea and pain to go away quick. Otherwise I'll be rolling around in agony for hours waiting for my stomach to relax enough to eat without getting nauseous. Nausea medicine just makes me unable to puke but I still feel extremely nauseous.

    Very interesting, I will talk to my doctor to get test. In one of the videos, the doctor said , one of the reason in caused by cell phones, pc, because we always have the head and neck looking down and in that position for a long time. before new technology, people used to read, and the head/neck is in the same position. I sew, hand embroidery, etc, my head is in the same position when I use the cell. Imagine those people who work in factories for a long hours. So, it seems this condition has been around for a long time.

      @CaringmedicalProlotherapy  3 года назад +1

      Hi angie p, Thank you for sharing, and yes, we do understand that many people kept their head down to read, sew, etc. So, for some people who are suffering from it now, it could be from years of having the head down whether on a cell phone, hobbies, occupational, etc. We can just say from our clinical observation and what is in the medical research, these cases are reported in unprecedented numbers and from various medical specialties. There can be multiple reasons why someone experiences this, and we present one consideration as it relates to neck stability and curvature. We wish you all the best in health for the new year!

    • @CaringmedicalProlotherapy
      @CaringmedicalProlotherapy  3 года назад

      Hi Ty, Thanks for the question. We use many types of Prolotherapy solutions, including ozone in appropriate cases. In our experience, the long-term success of the treatment in more complex or severe cases has to do with the injection technique and experience of the provider. You can see on our channel some examples of treatments being done that involve many injections to cover the whole joint, not just a couple of injections. If you think of it like spot welding, you want to address all the weakened supportive structures of a joint, so that has been our experience over the past 28 years. Wish you all the best.
