- Tiff and Mike take the EuroTunnel across the Channel to mainland Europe to reminisce about the 1980s, when Tiff was a full-blooded Group C racing driver. Driving a Porsche 962, he had a memorable race at the Nürburgring in 1989. Oh, and of course he knows everything about every corner around the Nordschleife.

@@invisiblekid99 I guess the title did say 'A walk-around', but it was a real kick in the balls when he said the track is closed today. I mean WTF? Drive all that way, with Tiff having to get his stripey shirt wet, and they don't even take a poodle around the track in that BMW. Very disappointing.

Tif is the guy who would drift a car one handed 150km/h and talking you about the cup holders in the car
Can't say anything about that, but i have seen the legendary John Surtees in a small town in Austria drifting a Mercedes W125 on cobblestones onehanded. Waving his right hand to the cheering crowd 2 meters to the side of the car. The speed was way slower, but no bolstering on the seat, no seat belt, no power steering, over 500 hp from a inline 8, tiny tires and uneven cobblestones.
That reminds me of a story about Stirling Moss. He was being interviewed while driving a fast road car while chatting and listening to music on the car's cassette player, and the tape ran out while drifting through a long corner. Apparently Moss changed the tape mid drift while still talking to the interviewer as if it was nothing at all. That must have been a long time ago just because of the non-auto-reversing cassette player. I also have a memory of Stirling being pretty old at the time, but even if it was 1980 - well into the time that cars had cassette players - he would only have been 50 years old. @@TrevorDennis100 Great story! The event where i have seen Mr. Surtees, is still beeing held each year (an oltimer rallye), and Stirling Moss and his wife participated in most iterations. They once "took the wrong exit" of a roundabout and got stuck in a dead end. The "freiwillige Feuerwehr" helped them out again. The roundabout is since called "Stirling Moss Kreisverkehr" by the locals and fans of the event. (And one year at the event The Mercedes Museum even brought out the famous 722. Something i am a bit proud as an achievment as car enthusiast: I have seen and heard the original 722 once in my life! )

Why his hate for the Nürburgring, though? I think it's one of the best tracks out there, even though I've only raced it virtually.
@@HAJIMEDJ he doesn't dislike track itself he dislikes that everyone makes cars to be fast on ring and that results in uncomfortable sporty cars and he prefers them to be more civilised and comfortable like they were before whole tasting and beating records on ring thing started.
Harry’s Garage also commented that cars after its been developed in the Nurburgring are very uncomfortable to drive on normal roads. Trying to get more lap times, engineers sacrifice more and more of the comfort. So the faster the car is on that track the worse the ride becomes.

Watched a interview with Andy Wilman (Top Gear/Grand Tour "director") and how the Stig came about. They said everyone that could drive (pro driver, with consistent lap times) can't speak/talk... so Andy and Jeremy came up with the anonymous "Stig". But Tiff and Jason can talk just fine!
Anyway the Stig was pretty awesome invention anyway but I really liked Tiff and later Jason ofc!

3:20 that map doesn't seem to be the current state of Europe...
It is an interesting one. I compared it to a few and this is actually a map of 1815 right after the Vienna congress that ended the napoleonic wars. Whats confusing is that border of the old Holy Roman Empire, that was ended in 1805 is still there, cutting Austria and Prussia kinda in half. Either somebody on Drivetribe pulled an epic troll to mock Tiff's age or was insanely stupid. I deem the latter one more likely. :P

Glad to see Tiff back, I acctually met him at an event a while ago and he's one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, he made sure to talk to everyone there and not just a Hi and Bye either and his books probably one of the higlights of my collection, just wish it had a photo of the Clarkson M5 moment in it.

Tiff needell is a complete gentleman . I asked him for his autograph at a restaurant thinking he had finished his dinner . He had not , I try to apologise but he said it wasn’t a problem and Signed my booklet form nec car show and ask if had enjoy the event .
