      It is what I teach! We are all learners first and foremost! The most successful people in the world fail over and over again until they get it right! It is a false notion that you start out and go straight to perfection!!!!! This is why so many of us in the world give up before we succeed! I need to do a video on just this!!

    That is one gorgeous bag, Renee! Love the way you did the zipper pocket, it's so neat! On 33:11 I was like "oh no, not that way" (btw, that always happened to me too whenever it's time to insert the lining ). I just love watching you make the bag, thanks for sharing!

    Thank you so much for the demo on the zipper with the overlay! I have avoided overlay zippers because it drove me crazy to have to cut off so much fabric. With the way you did it there is no waist.

      Since we last spoke, I've made 2 drop-in bags. After some fine tuning, I discovered shrinking the seam allowance (at the rim) by 3/16 (on each side, 3/8 total) all of the excess material around the rim was gone! I was so happy. I did still taper in after about an inch, like you did.
      I use a pretty heavy interface, so excess material is a real pain.

      I go back and forth between birthing bags and drop in lining...I was not sure if I wanted to keep this part in, then I thought...why not? You know that we all do this sort of thing and I am all about being authentic! So appreciate your patience with it!

      This bag is Harris Tweed and leather I received from a bundle I purchased from Springfield. The lining is silk from my stash I’ve had for years.

    Gee whiz. I wish I had seen this video before I made my last two bags. I was so upset with myself when I added the slip pockets. I did not like the bottom of them, not to mention when turning out..they just never look crisp and straight like the one in your video. Guess how I’m doing it next time. Thank you for sharing this technique.

    Beautiful bag! Great video and very realistic! When sewing with leather, and even some vinyls, whether the 1541or your Thor, how do you stop the feed dogs from chewing on the leather/vinyl? I wish they made a Teflon walking foot for the 1541, but then there are still feed dogs.

      I have never had that problem as I have the pressure adjusted light and my feet are smooth bottom.

    Hi Renee, in the video you said you were using the same grey thread throughout the bag. Does that mean the same weight as well? If you used the Mara on the domestic Juki were you using that as well on the 1541 and on Thor? Just wondering how fine you can go on the thread on those two industrial machines. Thanks

      I only used the gray Mara on the domestic for this lining. The rest of the bag was violet leather. I use Tex 69/70 bonded poly on the industrial machines for this bag. In the old days I have used the Mara 70 on my industrials, but not in a long time.

      You must be new to my channel! welcome! So what we do here is focus on learning! I've been sewing for over 50 years...I purposely show mistakes. I started sewing in factories back in the 1970s and it's important that I share being real as part of the process of getting to the end result. So glad you were able to stick to the end. Editing out part of the process would not have been helpful and would have given everyone a false sense of what I am doing here. My goal at the end of every day is what did I learn...mistakes are full of data...It has made me successful in everything I have accomplished in life! I wish the same thing for you! Laughing about it ....even better!

      The pattern is the Chloe by Shamballa, however, I do my own interiors on each pattern. I pretty much do all my interiors the same as I have shown here.

    The drop in lining…..I kept wanting to yell at you! So funny. You started today what you liked about the duckbill scissors, but then you had to answer the door. What do you like about them? Enjoyed the video!

      I kept that in on purpose Karen! I thought it was hysterical! I have two pair of those scissors! They reduce the risk of catching fabric on two thicknesses and you can cut closely and precisely also great around curves! Thank you again! I appreciate you and your sense of humor!

      I have many machines...but what I use in my videos here are a Juki 2010TL for linings very often, a Juki 1541s, and a Thor 1341 (cylinder arm).
