The soundtrack to simpler times, the summer of 81...road trips to the beach, driving home late at night from seeing bands, lazing on the bed thinking of what to do. This is an outstanding track by the B52's, they create an atmosphere here and on Give Me Back My Man that has the power to transport me back. The mind is a time machine, music the fuel for the machine...

A driving riff to spray gravel and spin tires up and down the switchbacks. I was working in a record store when it came out in '80 and I wore this track out everyday. I still can't hear it enough!
Oh man does this song take me back to early to mid 80's (Poway high school class of 1985, San Diego county, California) , all the good times and the fun things I used to do, 🌊🏖🏄♂️🕺🥋🏕🏞😎🤙🇺🇸.
Saw them in '82 open for The Who. The crowd was not appreciative of the band. They played less than 30 minutes and were gone. It pissed me off because I was there for them as much as I was there for The Who.
I love this track, but my pick up is off, so I can't play it by my original 'Wild planet 1980 Island record' so, thank u guys and y tube for making me happy by finding all these versions here!!!!!

So true!! I read once where John Stewart was urged to create a song that has "mass" appeal. I think he was reluctant as it wasn't his thing but he came up with the song "Gold" which is good but he said...really not his style. Therefore, perhaps same can be said of Rock Lobster.. silly song, easy to remember, hit the charts, etc etc However, Dirty Back Road excels with a sexy beat. Cindy looks good on the album cover. Car ignorant girls singing sexy about it non the less. Girl adventures. My favorite song with only the girls singing. Passage of time since recording makes it seem nostalgic.
The song's ending leaves you breathless. Pure beauty.
One of my favorite songs! Their harmonies are beyond beautiful 💜
Glorious. They're glorious
I totally agree. There's something particularly wonderful about this song. Definitely a favourite of mine! As always, have a lovely evening 😊
Yup. With so much Bs to love, this is in my top 5. Their harmonies are always Beach Boys-esque, but the feel and lyrics…”foot on the pedal”, baby…
Agreed!
Je suis d'accord avec vous Telma, je passe ce titre régulièrement et nous sommes en 2022, très créatif The B52'S.
Bonne route à vous Telma 😉

fave b52s track, feel good rhythm, lovely
Nobody comes close to Cindy & Kate!! GENIUS!! ❤️👏👏👏👏 #80sgreatness #mtv
Love everything about this tune. Has all the 52's trademarks - drum, bass, harmony. Having been on some of those dirty back roads helps too!
It is missing one large trademark - Fred - but that's OK.
There was no bass guitar player though. The bass was played on a keyboard. I saw them live so that instantly makes me an expert. 😁
I knew they weren't always talking about driving. ;)
This is totally a reference to anal sex homosexual or other wise. It is still, however a great tune!
@@jarrodlovett4926 I had a feeling that might be the case but like said sounds like a great time.

Reminds me of my friend back in High School listening to them on the beach on summer break!
GREAT, GREAT song!! Long live the B-52's!!!
Always loved this tune. Reminds me of Talking Heads.
Those 2 and Devo were my favorites in the early Eighties
Wait. What is this song about?
That's okay. Never mind...
I love it. I just love it.
J'adore ce groupe.. !!
The B-52S are timeless the simple songs are always the best . Their songs played in all the clubs in Houston TX in 81.please take me back
Love that beat, so unique and feels like dancing no matter where you are
This song doesn't last long enough!
Getting so nostalgic. Top, top album. I preferred it to the first one.
I'VE BEEN SUCH A HUGE FAN OF THE B52S EVER SINCE THEIR COSMIC THING ALBUM ❤️🥰😇
Same here. I bought it when I was 9 years old and it's been a big part of my music listening since then. Love them. Have a lovely evening 😊
Simplement génial !!
B52 s wild planet classic album dirty back road my favourite track
I play this song when I'm driving my pickup on the backroads in the country!!!

with your feet in the air ????? .... that's pretty reckless
that's not the "reckless" the song is referring to, but you do you. ;)
My favorite b52 song
So cool 👍👍
The 1950s wire-chairs on the cover are by Russell Woodard. The black asterisk Is a 50s George Nelson hallmark.
I wish young people could at lest hear this song on the radio and learn how B52s were so amazing and influential in the 80s.

This is my favorite song on this cassette
you have good taste...
I’m living this song.
Why are the most famous B-52s songs their worst? (Rock Lobster cough, cough) This is literally one of their best songs and it's virtually unheard of
And “Love shack” what the hell?
Planet Claire is a banger though
Rock lobster is ace
I know!!!? Mental world of people who don't listen further than the radio.... although those have gone. Now you hear nothing🤣🤣
Shhhh let's keep this between us
