I had prodromal labor for two weeks, active labor for 10 hours and nothing. I was 1.5 cm dialated and this was with my FOURTH BABY! At this point I begged for an epidural and they gave me one. 5 min after the meds kicked in my water broke and 30min later I was 10 cm and pushing. Ladies, sometimes your body just needs a break from pain and exhaustion to relax and open up. Get an epidural if you need one and don’t feel bad for even a minute.

My nurse told me not to wait for the epidural. I tried to tough it out but I got to a 6 and was screaming for one. I was also induced though. Contractions were so bad I kept moving and had to get poked 3 times in the back. My advice, if you are having even a thought about getting one, don't wait! I also had second degree tearing and I was GLAD for that epidural, I held a full convo with my ob as I watched her stitch me up with zero feeling, lol.

This is literally what happened with #4 for me! Precipitous labor (total labor was only 75 minutes long). My husband dropped me off and then took the kids to school thinking we'd have at least a couple hours. I was at 6 cm I think? As I was getting situated, IV placed, etc my water broke spontaneously. 3 nurses in the room all looked at each quietly for like 10 seconds then it seemed like everyone jumped into panicked get this done, call the Dr, call the anesthesiologist, etc NOW. I think at one point I had 5 nurses in the room running everything and 1 more (which I found out later was the head nurse) that I ended up grabbing her hand and she passed everything she was doing off to someone else and was basically my birth coach until after my epidural. Best nursing staff EVER! Thankfully my OB was right next door in his office, and the anesthesiologist was really close too. My OB got there and said I was at a 10 but if I didn't feel like pushing and wanted to wait for my husband to get there I could. So we ended up deciding to get the epidural so that we could stall a few more minutes. (In fact the anesthesiologist came in and said "you want an epidural? Confirm name etc. OK here ya go," then came back for actual paperwork after she was born.) Then we had OB, and a few nurses just hanging out in my room relaxing (because my epidural kicked in fast so I was basically just like any other day for me). They wrote on the board for goals "get Dad here before baby." My OB sees my car pull up, we get everything situated to start pushing, my husband walks in with my 2 year old who he hadn't dropped off yet, 2 minutes later I'm holding an 8 lb chunky lady 😅 It was crazy how fast everything happened, but you could really see how well prepared wveryone was for something like this to happen.

My anesthesiologist with my second was on call but sleeping in a room down the hall, they had to go wake him up to come give me my epidural and he looked half asleep walking into my room. I joked about how tired he looked but he did great! :)

Walked in at 5 cm. Asked for an epidural right away. Waited an hour and a half. Anesthesiologist came and cracked his kit open and put iodine on my back but I couldn't sit still. My nurse was like oh there's the baby's head just push. 1 min later my son was born. Never got the epidural but got charged for one because the Anesthesiologist cracked the kit open. I was not happy.

My second baby came in just 5 hours of labor. We got to the hospital too late to get the epidural even though I kept begging for it. I had the baby as soon as the on-call doc got there.
I had the same nurse for my third baby and she made sure to call for the anesthesiologist as soon as I got checked in. Because of that, I got the epidural and our baby was born less than an hour after I got it. I was SOO thankful!!!

My anesthesiologist was great. My only issue getting an epidural was being ticklish haha. Every time he went to touch where he was going to place the epidural, my spine would snap straight! It took a lot of concentration to fight that instinctual reaction but once I was able to stay still enough, it was placed super fast!

I had my son 6 weeks ago. My hospital's policy (Ireland) is that an epidural can only be given once a patient is transferred to the delivery suite and she needs to be at least 3cm dilated.
I have a history of a precipitous labour so i was induced again. Last time they said I went too fast so it was too late but this time I got the epidural and I'm so glad I did.

I got to the hospital crowning having tried desperately to not deliver in the car and I refused to push before epidural. I also told my dr to if she wanted him out so damn bad she could pull him out her damn self. She'd been my dr for over a decade, the dr for my other 3 kids, and we've had a great relationship. Things went from 0-10000000 in less than 10mins and my other 3 were inductions. Also my last delivery was without pain relief and I went into shock during deliver and I dont remember the first several minutes after (I dont think it was because the pain but it still ended up associated in my brain) and the pregnancy was incredibly dramatic; A very large subchorionic hemorrhage they expected to end in miscarriage, a chorioangioma, it was just a mess.

My baby was sunny side up when I got into labor. Funny enough: my cervix was posterior, hard, long and I was 0 cm dilated. It felt like my body couldn’t handle the pain to increase over the next hours so I asked for an epidural.
The nurse told me I wasn’t in labor yet so I couldn’t have one.
I asked if I could start pushing, which she refused for the reasons mentioned higher. I waited for her to turn around and started pushing anyway. She heard me and came back in panic asking why I had started pushing and she checked me: I was 10 cm dilated, no more cervix and baby was about to come! We ran into the labor room. 15 minutes after baby boy was there : they flipped him manually and asked me to be quick as they couldn’t feel any heartbeat and didn’t know how long his heart hadn’t been beating.

My first was hilarious. I have incredible posture. Always have. Idk if its cos i was a dancer or what. But during my first epidural I was on day 4 of my induction, and 42wks pregnant and just exhausted. I also speak very literally. they were telling me to slouch. And I was trying and I just started to silently cry because I didn't know how. My husband was there thankfully and had to talk me through it step by step. The anesthesiologist felt bad afterwards. He never thought about the fact that he was just assuming everyone did. He Also said he took note of how my husband explained that and will use similar wording in the future with patients who don't slouch.

I didn't tell them i was feeling the urge to push while having the epidural placed. I'd been waiting about an hour for one. I was scared and tried to "hold it in" 🙄. Needless to say it didn't work. I wish i just went with my body and pushed with the urge. Baby would have come out much sooner and the pain stops when baby comes out. We were ok in the end but it was more traumatic than it needed to be if i had just listened to my body in the first place. Baby #2 due soon and i probably won't bother with an epidural since I've done it basically without already.

I’m glad it worked out the way it did. Pushing was pretty painless for me… I just couldn’t imagine labouring for hours at the level of pain I was experiencing when I was admitted. 30 weeks and baby is transverse. Any tips for getting him head down again?

    • @sarahsmommaslife
      @sarahsmommaslife 2 года назад +3

My baby#2 was still transverse at 34 weeks. I had tried every technics people recommend on RUclips (turning upside down to use gravity, birth ball, etc). I knew she had plenty of room to move and the doctor had recommended we flip her manually at week 36 and if it didn’t resulted, we would induce me for cesarian birth.
I decided to stop panicking and thinking about that non stop and accept the situation. I let myself 3 days to chill, and one night I told my baby that she certainly wouldn’t flip for a reason which I respected. I explained what the doctor had planned and told her she had 2 more weeks to enjoy the space she had. But then she should, if she could, flip. Otherwise we would have to go get her earlier then she’d be ready to come out. And in an uncomfortable manner which we both would rather avoid.
      I then went to sleep.
At 3 am I woke up in panic. Baby was moving so extremely I thought something was wrong. I observed and let her do and after noticed : she had turned upside down. She didn’t switch back to transverse since and I’m 40 weeks on Monday.
Trust the process you still have plenty of time ! 💪🏻🍀❤️
