Love that you’re doing this! For me personally the main thing I’ve noticed is motion sickness. I played Animal Crossing forever and of course because it doesn’t change perspective this wasn’t an issue. Then my best friend got into Disney Dreamlight Valley but even watching her playing made me nauseous and gave me a headache. I tried the game using hubby’s gamepass and changed the settings as far as they would go to make the movement slower but it wasn’t enough. I figured for a minute there that games that are like that perspective wise weren’t for me, but then I tried Palia and those settings were enough for me to have no issues playing the game. It showed me that even if there are settings to help with such things (camera sensitivity is what it’s callled most of the time, also if I remember correctly, DDLV only has one setting for that while Palia has it for X and Y axis, so left/right and up/down, I put the up/down to a slower setting than left/right), it doesn’t mean that it’s going to fix your problem. I’m glad I could try on gamepass before buying because I might have bought it otherwise and not been able to play. Which is why I also feel there should always be some kind of way to try out a game to see if the accessibility features are what you need before buying. Demo’s really help with that.
Hubby has more physical concerns, his disability comes from a pretty rare progressive muscle disorder. He can’t use a controller, his fingers just can’t make those movements, and he uses ergonomic options for keyboard and mouse. He has a mechanical keyboard that is very configurable so he doesn’t have to press hard for the keystroke to register. He has an ergonomic mouse with configurable extra buttons. A big no-no for him is having to hold down keys for a long time and awkward key combo’s for basic gameplay. There are definitely a few games that he’s tried that he likes in terms of the game itself but the controls rule it out for him.
Thanks so much for sharing!! Videos like these help so much with making an informed purchase!
An accessibility point that is a big issue to me. Announcing that a game has strobing light, is exclusive, not inclusive. Every time I see that, it kinda feels like "we don't want you to play our game"
I think there should be an option to turn that off, 💯
