    He made the title this way to get traction. Whether he thinks it's not a bad game holds really no meaning in general because it really is a vad game. Dumb story, the missions get competitive, killed batman lol, and overall, isnt what anyine wanted. I know you didn't get paid, but for an AAA fame that cost 70 bucks? You're better off getting helldivers 2 they care about the community and isnt a cash grab. 0 reason to get this game actually. You can have your opinion yes but its basically more less of what everyone has been saying just less critical. 4/10 game.

    About the 2 Deadshots question, there are Audio logs that hint repeat 'hint' that the Arkham Deadshot that players fought in Arkham City and Origins was a variant from another earth that somehow got to this universe, as for Batman being alive, well the Knightfall ending showed a Demon Bat haunting the criminals of Gotham and Batman faked his death to protect his allies because it's hard to do that when every villain knows your secret identity, plus it was clear that Batman made a new batch of Scarecrow's fear toxin to affect criminals given how the ending showed thugs robbing a family in an alley. Also Brainiac claims he "unlocked their full potential to serve me" when controlling the Justice League, the only explanation I can think for why the League doesn't kill the squad immediately is because they underestimated them and thought they were small potatoes and not a big issue then with Green Lantern showing them what Brainiac's forces are doing I thought it was to show the threat for the player while story wise show the squad how "better" the integration with Brainiac will be in making Earth into New Colu, Captain Boomerang wants notoriety and to be taken seriously, not as a joke bad guy of the week, while King Shark is experiencing life on the surface, while still showing honorable dignity.
    Clearly these people didn't see the interview Kevin Conroy did with Dan Allen Gaming in 2021 where he was open to performing a darker Batman since he got a taste of it in Arkham Knight, and another when doing his TV appearance for the Crisis event and wanted more, Rocksteady just happened to make a story that gave Kevin what he wanted to explore.

    The moral bankruptcy of the whole writing team is actually scary.
    Flash is the only hero, who tried to save the SS members, and no one showed an ounce of sympathy for him, even tho he got captured FOR saving Harley. He went out of his way to find and save those four. Then SS members stood around his corpse, and Boomerang peed on it. While WW got glorified even tho she did nothing to save any of them.
    And the fact that Harley has the gall to lecture Batman about moralty? XD Arkham Harley is insanely eveil. She killed children canonically in the Arkham universe, she helped Joker torture Jason for years, and killed thousands for laughs.

    Watching your video all the way, I have to disagree with most of the opinions in this video. If you're having fun with this game then that's great, but I and many others coming from games similar to this one cannot in good faith say this is a game worth recommending. To most of us, this game seems like just another generic hero shooter made to cash-in on failing success. Although your mention of map size is an opnion I can share as bigger is not always better. Play any game in the best-seller category either indie or AAA and you'll realize they are a thousand miles ahead of this game while SSKTJL is like an ant among goliaths going towards the finish line. Honestly, playing this game is only decent if you have your eyes closed all the way through and you have never played any other game like Elden Ring, Hollow Knight, Hades or even other hero shooters like Apex Legends, Valorant etc. I recommend those games and if you compare those to this game, you'll see how SSKTJL falls short.

    • @Rannockh
      @Rannockh  9 месяцев назад

      I think what did a lot for me was the freshness of actually sticking to plot of killing the heroes rather than doing away with something like them breaking out of Brainiac's mind control - theres strong commitment to going with a rather morbid story. I also found a lot of the characterisation, some interactions, and how they play into the story appealing (which I suppose is more of a matter of opinion). The underdog motif is probably one of the thing that I appreciate being there at some points, but overall was very poorly used and maintained. And the ending just doesn't really exist because it's taken over by the game being a live service.
      I guess a huge part could also be the expectations with which you go into it. If you were to hate the game from the getgo because you'd know Batman dies or (justifiably) hate live services, the game would probably not be able to soothe that perception since it's pretty mediocre. In my experience, I just went in somewhat indifferently, but preparing for an experience that would be bad - only to just kind of enjoy it because I didn't find it as bad as I expected.
      When I say that I overall enjoyed the story, it's not necessarily like saying 'oh wow it was great, but more like, 'yeah, it was kinda okay'.

    • @literatedegenerate3800
      @literatedegenerate3800 9 месяцев назад +5

      @kh
      I don’t think refreshing is a word I would use for this story, due to the fact of there not being inherently anything innovative with the way it structures its plot. The idea of being the villain killing the heroes is novel at best and in practice within the structure of how this particular rendition of it plays out comes across as sad. Not the good, emotional sad. The kind of sad that leaves you sighing and asking why ‘that’ was the direction they took. No scene gets a chance to breathe without being saturated in humor, boomerang has to try pissing on the flash, shark pilfers green lantern’s ring, Harley carries a defeated, broken slung batman over her shoulder because he did the same to her and an earlier game.
      The underdog aspect also doesn't work either, I’ll skip the insane plot armor since you already acknowledge it. The game tries to sweep the horrific acts the members of the suicide squad did under a rug. They are all psychotic murderers with Deadshot being the only one who could be painted as morally gray at best with him being a hitman. Haley in particular is a horrific monster that has killed children. But the game never acknowledges this, trying to play them off as dysfunctional anti-heros that are just a little misunderstood. Shark saying his dad issues, Deadshot dropping his daughter every chance he gets and then you get Harley’s chat with Batman on the bench.
      You said that the bench scene works because it's supposed to be painful. But the pain it induces is not thematic of what they were trying to deliver. The pain we get is cringe. The idea of Arkham Harley trying to take ANY moral high ground over Batman is completely absurd. Again, she's a psychotic killer who has committed horrible acts herself and assisted the joker in the act which created red hood. She’s not redeemable or relatable. We had 3 games building up batman’s character and gave it the perfect end in Arkham Knight, then we had to dig it up for one more game, make him the punchline for poorly executed jokes, then put a bullet in his head. This is why people call it disrespectful, because it is. It undoes everything the previous games did, all those trials and the sacrifice Batman made to save others destined to lead to this.
      A story like this is not something we call ‘kind of okay.’ It's bad. It's broken. If I wrote a script like this and brought it to my editor I'd get laughed at.

    • @Rannockh
      @Rannockh  9 месяцев назад +1

      I'd say that the scenes being saturated in humor makes sense since the game tries to steer towards comedy, with a tendency towards seriousness once in a while, kinda like how the suicide squad source material often does, and same with other pieces of entertainment like guardians of the Galaxy. Tbh I'd take that over something overly edgy. If it didn't work for you then, that's likely a preference thing.
      I'm not sure why you consider it very important for the game to acknowledge that they are horrible people (at least in a direct and obvious manner anyway). In a way, the game does that like pissing on the flash despite him saving them - yeah, it's a horrible thing to do but they are psychotic criminals. It's also why I didn't see Harley's dialogue with batman to be taken as seriously. Of course she'd try taking the high ground - but that's kinda what a villain would do in that sort of situation. Is it not the sort of unhinged doalogue a villain would have when they capture a hero? It's just a look into her deranged psyche. It's probably why you took it as cringe - because you expected it as something to be taken seriously rather than just a villain having a villain speech. I didn't get the part about the game trying to make them look misunderstood tbh - to me they stood out as pretty terrible throughout the story as characters.
      When it comes to batman's arkham story, I guess to me it comes from a place of being disenfranchised with the concept of writing. At any point, if WB would want to make a new batman game, they could snap their fingers and say that sskjl is not cannon or part of a different universe. So, while I appreciate them using the Arkhamverse to provide context, in the grand scheme of scheme of things it could simply not matter because that's the nature of writing (kind of why deadshot seems to be 2 different people). But in the end, unlike a lot of people, I did not have the expectation that this game would be a return or continuation to the Arkhamverse. That story ended years ago, and going into it thinking otherwise will just be a bad time. Could his send off be done better? Sure? But the rawness of it felt very different compared to it being done in a very fan servic-y kind of way.

      @@Rannockh I’l avoid discussing the construction and execution of jokes, since that is a valley of subjectivity we may never find common ground on. What I will talk about is tone. An important aspect of storytelling that plays a pivotal role in separating cringe from funny and edgy from dark. I never said I wasn’t against the idea of the game not having humor, I said it was ‘saturated’ in humor. Tone in storytelling is like color in painting, one where the writer has to understand what volumes of which color are needed for each given scene. A darker scene can be elevated by lighter tones through humor but, when Flash dies, it's not enough that Boomer tries to piss on him, we also have to have all the other characters compliment Boomer’s sizable cock in awe, then he has to talk about how he’s ‘prepared a speech.’ It’s too much color, it's saturated, so it comes across as cringe.
      Why do I consider it very important that the game acknowledges the suicide squad members as horrible people? I think you missed what I was getting at. My point there was that an underdog story doesn't function when your cast isn’t relatable or likable. In an effort to remedy this the writers decided to draw focus away from the Suicide squad’s past instead of facing it head on. Case in point, Harley when she summarizes her teammates as ‘a deadbeat dad, Sharky who will never be a real boy’ and then herself with: ‘I never was too bright.’
      But there is a far deeper discourse here about character writing. For a character to be engaging, they have to have two compelling aspects that are well developed, a ‘Want’ and a ‘Why’. Let's stick with Harley, what does she want in this game? Well, she doesn't want the bomb in her head to go off, but that’s not compelling enough on its own. Why doesn't she want the bomb to go off? Well, because then she dies. Okay, that's how anyone with a bomb in their head would act, how is she special? You could also say her want is to kill batman, which COULD be compelling. But the ‘why’ is weak, as far as we know she does it because Bruce got mind controlled; because she has to stop Brainiac; because if she doesn't the bomb in her goes off. It's all surface layer, there is no depth. No complexity. And to nail my earlier point of tone in a little more, she spends so much of her dialogue cracking jokes that we never get any deeper insight into her want and why. Does she want to kill Batman out of a sense of revenge or a send off to the Joker? I don’t know, it never comes up in the writing. Her talk with Batman on the bench would have been the perfect moment to do that, hell even just a ‘Send my regards to Mr J’ before pulling the trigger would have elevated it more. The deeper reasoning for why any character in this game does anything at anypoint is never explored in any dialogue. Them being villains, them being psychotic, them being murderers with no real morals is something I brought up, because it's core to their character but never properly explored because these writers didn’t know how to make an underdog story with villains as the lead role.
      Look at the suicide squad movie, not the one with Will smith, the good one with actual depth to its character writing for a night and day difference in what good and bad handling of these characters looks like. Another example would be Kratos in God of war, imagine if the new games never brought up his past or explored his psyche regarding the horrible things he did in the earlier games. Imagine if that kind of character depth is what we got with Harley? At least then this being set in the Arkham universe would make sense.
      And yes, people had every right to go into this expecting a continuation of the Arkham universe, because this paid piece of media that wants to extract money advertised itself as such.

    I think you should also keep in mind game companies don't make games, people do. Rocky steady that made the Arkham trilogy aren't the same team as the team that made this game. Those people left the company before this game was released. So crediting this rocksteady with the company that made Arkham asylum, city and knight is a misnomer. That's like going to morehouse college in the late 2000's and crediting that student body with the effort and work the school did in furthering civil rights in the 80's. The 2000's student body was not there in the 80's so it's not realistic to share in the achievements of their predecessors just because of association. I just think that if you want to judge this game based on its own merits, you also have to keep in mind the achievements that the studio is able to currently put out not just what they have previously put out. Hell even great artist have the ability to give a lesser product after their previous work. It only means that that's much more likely for a team that hasn't given that previous work to begin with.
    Also for a game called killing the justice league it provides lack luster deaths for the justice league. I mean take mortal Kombat for example they put effort in making grewsome ends for all the fatalities. But in this game they just have each character be shot and executed and repeat. I'm not saying it has to be a gore fest but maybe something a bit more imaginative than each character just falls over. The way each justice league member kills the player after their health runs out has more imagination than the deaths of the league itself.
    I like your video but I don't really agree with your points. But I'm glad you enjoyed the game tho i mean 80 pounds is not cheap

Looking at it just now it's what just the deluxe edition outfits and some recolors nothing really to write home about. Best skin is a free promo from twitch drops.
      That said I'm not going to fault any company who implements MTX unless said game is a onetime release you get what you get and that's it no content till ever come again. But when it comes to any game that is meant (huge if on this part) to go on for a while initial sales money will fade and the seasons will need to be funded in some manner. I can however agree the pricing is a bit much when it comes to the cosmetics.

    It's an elseworlds game. Multiverse shit. It's blatantly obvious that although the events of the 4 arkham games took place here and it is a sequel. It's a sequel in a possible dark fate universe kinda way. This is a possible dark future, not just for batman, not just for the justice league. But the whole damn planet. It's a skynet scenario where brainiac completely lays waste to earth.
    So is Gotham Knights.
    Elseworlds. Possible sequels to arkham knight.
    The events of knight took place but in a different slightly different tone. You can tell the character models and attitudes are slightly different.
    The entire game makes this obvious.
    There can still be redemptive quality in the fact they can have a true arkham sequel or storyline where they visit our earth where our arkham series took place. A true arkham knight sequel. Maybe our arkham batman can teamup with the league and them from an alternate dark dystopia future ruled by brainiac to save what can be saved on the other earth's and preventing that from happening here.

    The game itself isnt bad but the story and a couple gameplay mechanics also arent really the best. I played about 30 or so hours of the game and the only positives I gathered from my experience that I considered good was the facial animations, voice acting, and cutscenes, but besides those 3 things? I cant really tell you what else I like about the game because theres not much TO like in my opinion. As someone who has also studied writing for years now, this game just straight up has a terrible story, but Im sure a lot of people would excuse the bad story if the game took place in an another universe rather than a universe where the flash is faster than time itself but still loses to some humans a shark. The gameplay and looter shooter aspect of the game isnt really bad I would say, but it can definitely use some improvement...honestly cant really think of what else to say about the game, theres not much good but theres also not much bad and even some of the things that are considered "bad" arent really bad, just mediocre/average.

    honestly I do understand the points that you are making in this game, except for the story part of the game. the game overall I would say was fun as far as gameplay but like you said it got extremely stale. and when the game got stale for gameplay which honestly in my opinion is the only good part about the game it gets stale very quickly and when it did get stale I got bored very quickly. after that I was done with the game the only reason I completed the game was so that I can do the story. and let's be honest even the best part about the game being the gameplay it still isn't that great. you get bored pretty quickly after just playing and grinding for materials. and the worst part about the game is the story which is really the only part that I really cared about for the game to begin with. now Rocksteady is trying to fix their errors and they are trying to basically say that the Justice League that we killed weren't the real ones or something like that and that they were actually synths or replicas. basically Rocksteady is trying to do some damage control which honestly the damage is already done. either way I'm curious to see where Rocksteady goes in the future for the Arkham series if they decide to continue. . . . . . as long as it doesn't involve The Suicide Squad. and the fact that they killed off Arkham Batman the most overpowered Batman I have seen in video games other than maybe the Injustice video game Batman. and on top of that very lovable version of the Caped Crusader they killed off the legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy. who is I'm sorry if anyone disagrees but so the best actor overall for The Dark Knight. and I know that the developers didn't know Kevin Conroy was going to die as The Suicide Squad game was getting developed and by the time they did find out it was already too late but at the same time they shouldn't have killed off Arkham Batman. I also know that Kevin Conroy knew that this version of Batman was going to die because he signed at the contract but I mean he also knew that his time was coming to where he was going to pass away. I just wish that this last performance of Kevin Conroy as The Dark Knight was a little more honorable along with the Arkham Batman version of the character a little more honorable of a death. because that was a pretty large Legacy over four games that was pretty much just destroyed by being tied to a bench and shot in the face like it was nothing. . . . . . and by Harley Quinn nonetheless. and let's be honest, when you are playing as Batman in the Arkham games Harley Quinn is such a mediocre character compared to the Joker and even Clayface . I just hope that Rocksteady fixes what they did. all in all this game was pretty disappointing. even some of the tiny amount of good things that this game had going for it quickly got stale and boring and then more times than not there was more bad things about the game than good.

      The thing about the story is that tbh, if WB wanted to it could just not matter. They would say it's either not cannon or part of another universe alltogether just as a snap decision and that' that. Maybe it's just me being disenfranchised with the concept of writing stories, or maybe it's the fact that several years have passed since the Arkhamverse story ended, but I felt a lot more neutral about it than the majority of gamers. Naturally this is my opinion, I didn't expect for people to agree with me when I was making the video and that's okay.

    You can earn some cosmetics without paying extra if you do the time trials. I believed the hate train until someone bought the game for me and I found out that most of the videos about this game are flat out wrong or lying. I give it a 7/10 but as soon as season 1 drops and we get the new missions it'll be an 8.
    However.
    I do not recommend that anyone buy it yet, though. Still too buggy for a large majority of the player base. Only a few of us have been lucky enough to not have any issues and I'm not one of them 😅 So while it's buggy, 2/10
