FIGHTING FOR THE GOSPEL - HOW TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

  • I'm very excited about this next lesson in the series FIGHTING FOR THE TRUE GOSPEL, where we, up to now, have looked at REPENTANCE, FAITH, and BAPTISM IN WATER. Now, we're looking at the HOLY SPIRIT.
We first looked at the Holy Spirit in Jesus' life. Then, we looked at the Holy Spirit in the early disciples' lives. Now, we're looking at HOW TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Here, we start by looking at Pentecost and what that day was all about. When you understand Pentecost was a celebration which goes back to the first harvest, and to the Law given by Moses at Sinai, you really see how beautiful it is, and how this time, God did not write the Law on stones. Now, He came down to write the Law on our hearts by the Holy Spirit! We also see that Acts 2 was really the birth of the church!
We're also looking at how people in the early church received the Holy Spirit, and that it was not something which happened automatically when people came to faith, as sadly many people think today, and where they misquote Ephesians 1:13.
We also look at the misunderstandings there are today with the baptism of fire, as John was saying in Matthew 3, that Jesus was baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. What was that fire baptism?
We believe you will love this teaching, and that it will challenge you, and bless you, and give you a clear understanding of how we receive the Holy Spirit!
And at the end of the teaching, I will pray for everyone out there who wants to receive the Holy Spirit!
    Blessings
    Torben Søndergaard

I was baptized in the Holy Spirit years ago. Since there, I prayed for many believers for receiving it, but just a few spoke in tongues.
I still don't get what's wrong, why sometimes it happens but in most of the cases don't.
I appreciate any help from people used to see it happens, thanks 😊

My father told me a story which happened a good number of years ago. He and my mother have been invited to a catholic meeting (they have been charismatics). The priest was very open. After giving some teaching (not even talking about the holy spirit) they went into worship. My father played the guitar. When they worshipped people suddenly start to randomly fall to the ground and began to speak in tongues.

Sometimes I pray in tongues, but I feel that I lack God’s power in my life. Does this mean that I’m making up the tongues, or how do I proceed? I’m baptized by immersion and sincerely longing for a spirit-filled life, with more courage and boldness, as I grew up as a very socially shy person. Can it be that I need to ”walk by faith” to a higher degree, spend more time with God and His Word, or asking more people to pray for ”baptism in the Spirit” (which I did when I was young)? I never had the experience of the Holy Spirit ”falling” on my life, but sometimes when I pray I cry and can feel an urge for things to pray for. My guess would be that that is from the Holy Spirit, but I would really like to ”come further” in my faith. I would appreciate some advise. May God bless your work!

I would answer that Jesus prayed for us… who would believe through the word of the apostles… that we would all be one, as He and the Father are one. So… we will be in the Father’s purposes for His sons and daughters, just as they were.
      John 17:20-23 (ESV)
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me…”

But when it comes to the epistels, those are suddendly useful for teaching? When you read the epistles you always come to the same conclusion: You need the Holy Spirit to do literally anything (overcoming sin, worship, pray, being tranformed) as a disciple. That is so clear throughout the epistles. But when we do not take book of acts as a teaching book, how we are even supposed to know how to receive the holy spirit?

What about Moses encounter with the fiery bush? Or YWWH’s manifesting in fire on Mt Sinai? The 3 Hebrew boys in Daniel and their & the Angel of the Lord in the fire?
    Elijah’s calling of fire?
The fire that burned the offering that was pleasing onto the Lord? Aren’t we to become an offering and a temple onto the most high God?

The "disciples" in Ephesus may have been disciples of John the Baptist and not Jesus. It is not clear in Acts 19 that these disciples knew the whole Gospel. This may not be a good example that receiving the HS is not automatic. A better example would be Philip in Samaria. Philip did not "finish the job" so the Apostles laid hands on the new believers for them to receive the HS.

    • @TheLastReformation

I was baptized by the Holy Ghost, and spoke in tongues before I was baptized under water. I been baptized 4 times wrong, than I was baptized Biblically under water in Jesus Christ name. Lord Jesus is ok also. But there are different people name Jesus in Bible. Scripture saids Jesus Christ or Lord Jesus. Also I personally would not want to be baptized my a woman on her TIME, that seems unclean to me from reading scripture. I do not see where women is to take that position to head the church? I read God, Jesus Christ, man, woman in that order of head position. I'm a woman. Any Biblical enlightenment on my thoughts would be interesting. This is a great Biblical teaching message!

In the Nicea council the bishops didn't understand that the Holy Spirit IS THE FATHER. Jesus states that "God is a spirit", where "God" is the "Father", of course. Well, "God who is a Spirit" gets in the gospels the name of "Spirit of God" or "Holy Spirit". Thus the Holy Spirit=the Father (who is in the form of a spirit). The "Father being a spirit" means that NOBODY IS HERE: God is present here only with his love, his words and actions, but He is ABSENT.
Jesus has thus the "Father who is a spirit" and calls Him sometimes "Father", sometimes "Spirit (Holy)", depending on circumstances and this could be confusing. But they are just two equivalent names. For example (see blasphemy against the Holy Spirit) Jesus could have said "..but blasphemy against the Father will not be forgiven...", in an equivalent manner. For example, in "..only the Father knows" Jesus could have said: "..only the Holy Spirit knows" instead.
Thus, NO "THIRD DIVINE PERSON", no triune God exists.
The Father IS THE HOLY SPIRIT and only in this "limited form of a spirit" takes actions now:
    see Mary's pregnancy
see Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit and helped by Him when talking : "The words I say to you, I say not on my own but from the FATHER WHO DWELLS IN ME."(the Father who dwells in Jesus is in the form of a spirit: He is the Holy Spirit).
see the words spoken by Him at the Jesus' baptism ("...you are my beloved Son..")
The Father in his "normal form" is thus NOT available, see Jesus' answer to Philip: the Father cannot be shown
Jesus sits next to the POWER of God, thus God is NOT IN HEAVEN either.
When Jesus will come, "the Son of man comes WITH HIS HOLY ANGELS, He shall sit upon the throne of His glory." i.e. the Father will NOT be there with Jesus either.
Since the Father is ABSENT, the Son INHERITED the Reign of God " The Father loves the Son and has given ALL THINGS into His hand."
Accordingly, Jesus will judge people, NOT THE FATHER "The Father judges no man, but has turned over all judgment to the Son."
The Father in his "normal" form only existed in a distant past, BEFORE THE BIRTH of mankind "the world has not known you", this is why "no one has ever seen God", of course. Only Jesus HAS SEEN the Father, i.e. an "action taken", i.e. Jesus does not see the Father now.
The almighty God in his "normal form" (see the baptismal formula) cannot be here for logical reasons.
