my friend has a koi pond. she used a hot tub container has assorted plants for ponds and a filtration system shes had it for years no problems but now all of a sudden the water has turned cloudy and water is green shes changed the water and cleans it no matter what nothing helps
It might be the amount of waste that has built up, changing water may not remove much waste just single celled algae. The cause of the problem (green / cloudy water) is to much nutrition. The fish have grown the amount of waste produced is now more. Koi are large fish that produce lots of waste. Adding a UVC is the only guaranteed way for 100% clear water but this will not remove the waste. Look at upgrading the filtration or Rehome some of the fish. We use external wetland filters on our koi pools. But you do need space for these type of filters.
Thank you Ill let her know I do know she has been trying to find a pond for several quite large fish but to no avail and pet shops wont take any, she loves her pond and has been stressing over this.
Ikeep getting algee on my oase pe 750 litre preformed pond Ive 4 Warter Lillie plants its my first pond and I'm still learning I've had to strokes any advise would help me thanks
Oxygenating weeds can be added to a pond at any time of the year, but there are some considerations: Spring and Summer: These are typically the best times to introduce oxygenating plants because they tend to grow faster and contribute more oxygen during warmer months. Plus the plants a more available. Autumn: If you want to add oxygenating plants in the autumn, it’s better to do it earlier in the season when the water is still relatively warm. If you can find it in the shops or on line. As temperatures drop, plant growth will slow down and some rot down, you don’t want to add that waste. If your controlling the amount of weed you have in one system. This time of the year is very easy to take out too much weed and it will put the pond back a lot next spring. Winter: Plant growth slows down or goes dormant in colder months, so adding oxygenating plants during winter may not have an immediate impact, but they can still contribute to overall pond health when the weather warms up.
I’m a pond owner in Egypt. Can you recommend plants and fish to keep the water clear here? Ponds are not popular in Egypt. Dirctor sun hits it daily, algae is a problem, and no chemicals available to use. Help!!
Hi I have a 110 gallon pond with a all in one pond filter and UV clarifier, I have some plants in it, had for few months and now having algae sticking to everything, what can I do
Dwaipayan Datta Roy lots of ways to kill algae, but we don’t use chemicals to kill algae as this only adds to the nutrients with in the pond! Resulting in more algae. Using caltha marsh marigolds are good, and rafting plants as they also block out the light for the single felled algae
new Holland we harvest pond plants from other clients ponds and also our own stock ponds that we look after. The oxygenating weed is Latin Elodea Crispa and Elodea Canadensis common name pond weed.
In the next year or two we will be creating lakes in the UK. This species is aggressive enough in it's native range. I'd never use it in the UK. It *will* escape.
Mark,I`ve just found a substance floating on the surface of my pond that I`ve never see before,it`s as if someone had sprinkled green paint onto the surface and when I took some out it stank to high Hell, any idea what it might be ?, thanks.
Algae and types are basic pH weeds , acidification of the water can eradicate it from pond water, High H2 in water may destroy bloom and phytoplankton from the pond, after the desired water clarity is obtained then treatment with calcium is needed to make it planktoned
The Pond Advisor 😂it’s crazy think the hot weather might have helped They were basically born in the weed And then straight tap water in a tank 2 weeks later I was a little shocked 😂
Having beneficial bacteria in your filter does *not* reduce algae. The bacteria turns ammonia into nitrites and nitrites into nitrates and algae loves to eat nitrates. A filter only helps with algae by capturing waste, and then when you clean our your filter you are removing that waste from you pond. If you don't clean your filter then it will break down in your filter and produce the nutrients that your algae loves to live on.
You are correct, beneficial bacteria helps in processing the pond waste. Pond plants will compete and reduce algae, as they are more complex and can grow out of the water (shading the water). So less algae with or without any filter systems. But with more beneficial bacteria (depending on oxygen levels) working with in an aquatic ecosystem you will have less algae due to have less nutrients in the water. Ammonia (if not processed) is the easiest nutrition for true pond (aquatic) plants to take up. If you have little beneficial bacteria in the water column you will have more plant food (so more algae, if you don’t have any other competition).
This isnt correct. Half thr surface of my pond is covered with yellow-flowering plant from the garden centre and its green. The various liquids havent worked either. Uv light is the only solution.
Great video Mark, Any Pond is always a great source of information for all types of pond owners.
Thank you, means the world!

A video that doesn’t go round the houses 👏🏻👏🏻

try put the pond out of sunlight for a week. algae need sunlight to grow. some old blanked will do. no sunlight = algae die
Does barley straw actually work?

Use multi clear if you want to clear the weed.

Is it worth putting oxygenating weed in at any time of year? Or should I wait till spring

Thanks for the info mark..are there any plants that will survive the winter if left in a pond?
yes, all hardy pond plants will survive winter, where about are you?
I’m in Bedfordshire, the pond gets the sun all day long
Thats fantastic, we are in Northamptonshire so not far away at all. We have a lot of hardy pond plants available in the UK
this is my favourite pond plant ruclips.net/video/G_se4cGgsKI/видео.html
Mark what’s the address and the name of the shop? Il pop in next time am in Northampton
Just got gold fish 1 week ago now have frogs is that safe for the fish??
Yes 👍🏻

Or killing algie could be done from have increased water depth and using catla or surface feeders or using salt and vinegars solution 3ml/ lit

I've got like green/gray silt or whatever it's called on stones on liner etc, try and remove it by fine net is not worthwhile..what can I do
Do you have a filtration system?
@@ThePondAdvisor no just a fountain to keep water circulated
where you get the weed from mate and what it's called, thank you
new Holland we harvest pond plants from other clients ponds and also our own stock ponds that we look after. The oxygenating weed is Latin Elodea Crispa and Elodea Canadensis common name pond weed.
Is Elodea canadensis listed as a noxious weed in the UK?
new Holland Yes it's not on the banned list yet, like some of the other oxygenators but eldoea still for sale in the aquatic outlets
In the next year or two we will be creating lakes in the UK. This species is aggressive enough in it's native range. I'd never use it in the UK. It *will* escape.
Keeping algae out of a garden pond is easy, it's all about the balance, help Mother Nature fight the algae.
+Angel Suarez, lock up the nutritious or grow other plant food,
+Angel Suarez, lock up or remove that nutritious pond waste plus grow other plants
+Angel Suarez you can lock up the nutrients with binders, but adding chemicals are not long term plants are.

serberious with out seeing pictures of the green paint substance, it might be a form of algae or photosynthetic bacteria
So get rid of algae my making it all green with another weed?
Yes, much easier to manage the pond plants.
How about some Chinese algae eater fish? Drop a heater in the pond and keep at 76 Fahrenheit.
Wow that would be expensive, but yes possible

Dwaipayan Datta Roy pH weeds?
Adding hydrogen is adding chemicals, plants work with Mother Nature
UV filter light will clear up a pond.
Chemical filtration in the form of radiation
I put some weed in mine
I now have ( unintentionally )
200 baby’s 😂
Time to upgrade the pond again I think
I did the same in a small patio pond a few weeks back, now I guess i need to re home the small goldfish.
The Pond Advisor 😂it’s crazy think the hot weather might have helped
They were basically born in the weed
And then straight tap water in a tank
2 weeks later I was a little shocked 😂
The Pond Advisor it’s got to the point my wife woke up this morning said she had a dream about fish tanks all over the house 😂
One of my water lilys is bigger than that puddle.
Lol

Interesting, you can have clear water without electricity, you must have lots of waste or big fish or both
