Love the way the old electrics sing a song as they power up and pull away. You could tell what type it was just from the noise. For instance the 85 sounds quite different to the 86.
Good morning 👍🏻 Some fantastic footage showing the hard working cans on container trains lol 😆 How things have changed now in our modern railway especially the longer intermodal trains at 750 metres and 8’6” boxes 😂
On their last legs then. As the North London Line had been wired up there was a need for more electric hauled freight so a pool of 75mph restricted class 85/1's was created. Once the DVT's on the West Coast were all working correctly that released some more 86s to then get rid of them.
Awesome video, can vaguely recall the 85's...very vaguely...my dad worked at Birmingham New Street in the 80's, so I was used to seeing the AC electrics there...
Another odd one is 47228, being the only 47 at Tinsley a year before this vid, still in BR standard blue to avoid the fitters unofficial names applied during 1990 after re-allocation from CD depot, before getting RfD at Springburn in July '90, being the 2nd to last 47 painted at that works into RfD. The only 47 in RfD livery without body-side orange cantrail stripes i think too! Then there's a fave 47359, which i had to snap on the TT at OC (she loved seeing that pic lol!) just after her overhaul and paint into Rf Metals after CEM at ZC Feb '88, same time as 47599 out of the 4 x 47's done into RfM in 1988. Also had her Metals repeater logo's applied wrong end on A side. Metals logo's changed for red diamonds by 1991 at TI. Btw Soi, do you know what that service is at all, thanks? And then 37888 'Petrolea' lol this story needs a book! One of the first to recieve standard size Petroleum logo's (and maybe full repaint by 9.90) out of the ex SF, by now IM allocated on paper, Ripple Lane fleet, all SF 37/7's having original designed cl.37 large RfP logo's when released from Crewe after major refurb. BR sectorisation kept us on our toes back then, the name first applied to 47374, then 37888, and years later to 58042 (i modelled) to replace the Ironbridge PS names that went onto uh, yes u guessed it, Mainline blue 58005 'Ironbridge Power Station', once featured in your, or THE, ultimate railway vid with her thrashing it that unfortunately doesnt exist anymore! And then to top it all off, around the time with her, one of the nameplates dissappeared off my model of 58042 hmmm lol! I shuld redo it as 58005 as same livery at time as 042 in '90 but no plates! 005 was one i planned to model back then too. Jeez lol i have had all the luck eh . . . and now the ultra-unique bit, along with the usual me guessing of what loco number is under her command most shifts, i had to guess weather they got the feather or not at this very junction once or twice. Mindblowing. . . And beyond that! . . Still . . . Excellent vids and thanks for enduring this 'stuff' and sharing your work with us, top YT vids these are :D
Sorry, i have no idea what that working was. It looks to be a steel train and could well have been heading to a dock (Purfleet or Tilbury) for export. You certainly know your locos! keep an eye out on my uploads, still loads more historic ones to come! I have 47 599 in freight livery working a parcels train on a vid somewhere so lots more unusual stock combinations to come-happy modelling.....
Another fantastic clip Soi. And here's a bit of Info re Class 85's they were regarded as one of the more successful of the early AC Designs but by the late 80's found themselves wanting as old age encroached. So 15 85's were chosen at random to be Freight Locos renumbered accordingly as The 85/1's and placed in a dedicated pool FGRC. Their top speed was reduced to a nominal 75mph and their ETH Equipment was Isolated.
Thanks for the info. I knew some of the better ones were re-numbered for the freight pool but i couldn't remember how many. I think the class 90's introduction led to the 85's demise, luckily the Primrose Hill route being wired up around the North London Line meant there was a need for more freight AC traction which gave these sturdy locos a stay of execution. Have you seen my Crewe uload here with class 81's? ruclips.net/video/Eq_-Ovr--Co/видео.html
Splendid vid as always sir! I never went here, prefering SF TMD instead for mass number/livery intelligence gathering missions with the time i had, when one could afford such magnificent journeys back then eh! And as usual with your uploads, theres always a bizarre unique coincidence or 2 lol. Firstly there's 86633 which is unique in being the only a.c. to have BR cast arrows applied to the secondmans (or woman lol) cabside instead of the norm, also one of just 3 with red-buffer beams on their RfD liveries during this time i believe. Also, (sorry to waffle on) 86633 recieved that livery during a 'G' exam at Stratford Major Depot in May/June 1990, having previously gained the accolade of being the first a.c. loco given heavy repair at SF DRS under BRML, being released in July '87 i think after collision damage and light exam as 86433. Prior to that, she was given overhaul and reclassification to 86/4 at Crewe in April '85 being an early recipient of Intercity livery. Also being one of the very few ac loco's given CEM at Wolverton works later, in Apr '93 and given a more standard RfD paint-job. Nice to see 47016, ex SF aggregates pool before moving to TI RfD, but lost her one time light blue-backed 'The Toleman Group' plates by now, and later in the decade would become one of the Old Oak 47's (named 'ATLAS' from 47626 which i modelled) that Acton drivers worked a lot i assume eh !! 016 was given that old-skool Rf livery at Crewe in Nov '86 when CEM's started. She would get a repaint into same livery for the OC open day '94 which had to be attended ofc! Ended up, i believe, being the last mainline loco of them all, working in that livery in 1999.
Thanks for your comments. I used to know all the ins & outs back in the day of locos and workings but too much more lunacy has been added to my brain i forget past facts & figures......
Very interesting comparing to then and now. These days the platforms would be fenced off with no public access over the overgrown sections no longer in use.
Thank you. I do have a few uploaded here ruclips.net/video/aCmYNAs-sq8/видео.html and here ruclips.net/video/wBxSoYqDE8c/видео.html and here ruclips.net/video/_wvFgFZsQ6s/видео.html and here ruclips.net/video/CH2tTFpCjx8/видео.html, enjoy!
The clearance between the top of the locomotives and wagons to the underside of those bridges is minimal considering there is 25kv OHLE between the bridge and the trains.
This was one of my local stations and i visited quite a bit. The passenger service was DMUs every 30 min each way and i have filmed a lot of them so some trips unless something unusual was out (perhaps a bubble car...) i gave them a miss this trip. I was aiming for the 85 as they were only in use on freight by then as 85/1s.
Love the way the old electrics sing a song as they power up and pull away. You could tell what type it was just from the noise. For instance the 85 sounds quite different to the 86.
Lovely sounds
great to see the class 85 and 86s again i love the sounds they make.have to use the wifes hair dryer for my bachmann 85 sounds
That's a good bit of invention!!!
Nice location where you can really capture close up footage and the junction adds some interest. Love the Class 85 roarer.....
Thank you. You'll notice it has been re-numbered to an 85/1 for freight use. by now i think their use on parcels and pasenger work had ended.
Much missed class
The 85 was fantastic!
👍
Thank you.....
BR created a small pool of 75mph freight only ones after their passenger use came to an end. The Fords job was one of their rugular turns.
Far more interesting scene back then! Many thanks for sharing.
Yes, there was plenty of variety on this line back then....
Good morning 👍🏻 Some fantastic footage showing the hard working cans on container trains lol 😆 How things have changed now in our modern railway especially the longer intermodal trains at 750 metres and 8’6” boxes 😂
I was lucky to catch the 85/1s, they were relatively short lived......
Interesting seeing a 86/6 still in intercity livery and still carrying the big 86/4 jumper cables.
Class 85 in 1991! Lucky you!

They would have worked around there along with the 86 & 87's.

Only the 85s got down there never their sisters 81s 82s or 83s
@@annescholey6546 Yes, the route to the Great Eastern wasn't wired up when they were running.

I think it is now...... was always a nice quiet spot passenger wise with no one to bother you......
another great video thanks for sharing it
My pleasure! Plenty more still to come......
A great blast from the past.Superb footage.Do you have any class 40s or peaks in your collection?
