    I printed out a white paper published by the manufacturer of these breakers for my customers. The routine is pass inspection, remove afci bkrs where reasonable (almost 100%) and install normal current protection for your customer. But they MUST be in agreement. If they are not, they normally are after the first freezer full off expensive meat gone bad. The white paper goes into the weeds about arc fault, nuisance trips, and design strictures.

    • @blaydCA
      @blaydCA 8 месяцев назад +3

      Damn shame you can’t just RENT or borrow the afci breakers for inspection.
      Such a waste of time and money with those damn things.

    • @foogod4237
      @foogod4237 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, what you're doing is actually legally fraud, and you can lose your license if somebody chooses to report you (which they should).
      It doesn't f*cking matter whether you agree with them or not, the codes aren't there for you to just arbitrarily pick and choose which ones you follow, and deliberately misleading the inspector to sign off on an installation that you have no intention of actually finishing to code (and also soliciting the customer to be complicit in deliberately violating electrical codes as well) is actually *illegal.*
      (And nuisance trips are easy to fix by just adding proper line filtering on the devices, which is the correct solution, not _undermining mandated safety measures_ just because they annoy you and *you're too lazy to fix it properly.* )

    • @DozIT
      @DozIT 14 дней назад +2

      @@blaydCA I mean as a contractor you could offer that service. Keep 30 or so in inventory, as long as you don’t have more than say 3-6 panels pending inspection at any given time it works out :)

      So many electricians will argue saying they are great and better than they used to be.
      Well, a solid turd may be considered better than a soft turd for your health but, it's still a shitty turd. And that's how AFCIs are in my opinion of being 35 years in the trade working with tools still and going from 16 yrs as a union journeyman to licensed electrical contractor working for myself last 12 years. That doesn't add up to 35 years you say? Add 4 years of apprenticeship and a couple years non union and then I was a union IBEW material handler and a driver and warehouse foreman and tool repair for almost four years for the biggest electrical contractor West of the Rockies back in the mid 1980s.
      AFCIs are making people rich and it isn't us electricians and contractors. Lobbyists and politicians and manufacturers are making a ton.

    Arc faullts are crap and have been since their intro. Get your inspection and replace with regular breakers. They started phasing them in slowly, only requiring them in bedrooms at first, then other living areas and ultimately into every space, even on the gfci protected circuits 🙄 And have YET to resolve the nuisance tripping. They are better than the first generation, but still not reliable enough, and just too expensive. Just my experience over 40 years in the trade. And btw....... GET OFF MY LAWN !!!! 🤣🤣

      we call stripping all the branch circuits into the panel “cutting in”

    Who would buy QO?

    It’s about time SqD fixed that breaker length problem. Cutler Hammer was the same way, but they fixed it years ago.

    Afb would be good if each outlet was on a independant breaker. Then they wouldn't trip as much for no reason..

    This is why I prefer commercial panels to residential panels that need to fit within residential framing. Sometimes I'm tempted to put the residential guts in a commercial panel....

    Why are we still using QO? When I did service it seemed like QO breakers burnt up more often then homeline

      Never had a problem with either. The only bad ones I seen are FPE and GE.

      @Pepe-dq2ib in the last 10 years, GE has gotten a little better quality.

      @@richt5986 even with the current models, its the same breakers and they just dont sit snug onto the busbar. The last one i worked on was a service upgrade from a 100A PowerMark Gold to 200A and we replaced with with an Homeline PoN load center. I recall there was more Siemens QP in it than GE breakers.

      The older aluminum bus qo boxes were definitely more trouble than the copper bus QO

    Know it's been over 10 years since German company Schneider purchase one of the best in class line Square D but still call them Square D. At one of our new 12 story buildings we had Square D 13,200 volt dual service switchgear. Had the best recorder computer that you could look into to see exactly when they had a voltage dip or lost of 1 service. Have to watch if you have to install more then two normal 1' wide LOTO attachments next to one another. They do make a narrower 3/4"wide LOTO just for Square D 3/4" wide breakers. Think I read that the plug in neutral panel & plug in neutral breakers cost 10% more but well worth it.

      I DIY'd one not long ago. Ties in with my ATS and trips the nonessential breakers when the power drops.
