The Corsair 4000d is a GOOD case, let me get that out of the way first of all.
I do have some reservations about recommending it wholeheartedly, due to a few things which i personally think could have been done better, or differently.
And when we now are able to look at the 5000d for comparison, some of those areas have been addressed and improved on, but at a cost of size and actual money.
Overall i liked the ideas and principles of the 4000d and it is actually at the time of typing this, it is my daily driver case for my video editing PC, although i am not entirely sure there is any benefit over the MSI Forge 100R that is replaced, although the filtration is much better.

The best mid tower imo. It was a joy to build in and its spacey for its size.

@@akiskev There is no point to compare cases in different price category. nzxt h7 flow price is around 140€, when corsair 4000D airflow price is 95€.

Dust filter in the bottom should pull sideways or in front of the case. Corsair is very pretty in white. For detailed and honest review thank you as always. See on stream this Saturday :D
Good in depth honest review - I almost got one of these a while back - but put off by the minimal front I/O - I'm on the lookout for a replacement for the Corsair carbide 275R housing my main rig - tempted by the new lancool iii - waiting for a better price maybe.

I run the white version, best case I ever had. Glass panel is a lot less tinted on the white variant
I was considering this case but settled with the 465x it was on offer so I had to.had it nearly 2 years now and it’s an excellent case I’m pretty sure you did a review on it if I can remember. I’ll always see what your opinion is on stuff before I buy it I like to call it mike approved 🤣🤣🤣
yes the 465x was a great case and i actually miss it, the 4000d is it's spiritual successor in many ways

The support for replacement parts & swapping items is great imo. The top I/O and cheap fans seem pointless to me and spoil an excellent case. As u said supply without fans & let customers chose fans makes more sense. I use an F15m and much prefer 2x20cm fan setup. Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath👍
@Nick Barnes I am always w/you Nick on give me a case for a cheaper price and leave out the fans. Mike has reminded me, case manufacturers can get fans for less than you or I as a big reason they include them, but still, like you I'd rather pay less for the case and go shop my own fans.
a lot of them i am guessing include BS fans just so they don't end up at the bottom of the gamers nexus charts

I use the stack fans and they are enough for my whole build. One makes a little noise, but the fan itself doesn't touch anything. Probably the bearing not being awesome quality

Only downsides are complicated PSU placement (thanks to HDD bay nearly impossible to remove) and lack of storage use LED

great case prefer the white version supprised No RGB Fans included I think on the white cases the magnets are painted Grey but yes the small details are pretty good
i got Fans in Both my Corsair Cases ! the SSD bays are really handy and the front looks better on this 4000d than mine on the 220T

Front I/O is important to me - attaching DVD/CD drives, phone transfer/charge and various other external drives - I miss the built in SD card readers too 😀

Smart looking case. Very good quality but a bit pricey. The 5000d is a jump in price too. I don't use the front panel much have a dongle plugged in for the Logitech keyboard and that's it. Tend to use the usbs round the back. Another great review Mike.👍

personally i am looking for a case wich is silent(with airflow), with dust filters and sober.
So I am looking to the:
- Corsair 4000D (good compromise)
- Be quiet (for silence)
- Fractal Meshify Compact 2 (for design).
Actually i have an old antec P182 and i am slowly doing my market research... 😁
maybe take a look at the lianli 215 or 215 they are simliar price and with some fan tuning can be made very quiet. i use the 216 as my main editing pc case and really like it

A long time ago, I discovered the quality of lian-li and I love it.
If only the 215 or 216 had some filters, i will buy it.
Theres no doubting that its a good looking case, Im a fan of the front cover, that pattern is easy on the eye. However.......when you take the rough with the smooth you find yourself re-evaluating your choice in case. Its got its shortcomings but I still maintain that its a very decent case and worth the investment. Its a shame that with a few minor changes this could be a classic case but as it is.......its a contender. Thanks for the review, Mike and Kath 🙂
i agree, and at the time of release being a bit cheaper and less direct competition this would be more favourable, but time and inflation have not been too kind to this case

i might go back to my thermaltake view 71 tempered glass rgb my 4000x im having abit of trouble to fit 2 radiators in the case
It's a superb case there's no denying it, and the ease of cleaning the front dust filter is a big plus in my opinion. At it's price point it's a classy case. However I still think the Corsair 220T, it's predecessor, is a more tempting buy. It's about £12 cheaper, includes 3x aRGB front fans, and is more compact than the 4000D, while still having a similar front panel design with excellent airflow and dust filter. The 220T has older style side screws for the glass panel and no USB-C front header, but at this point in time I think it's a fair trade off for the advantages over the 4000D.
If front USB-C is important to you, then the NZXT H510 Flow at ~ £69 (Amazon / CCL) should also be considered, although this only comes with 2x 120mm standard black fans.
i use the 220T white for my 2nd PC nice case
220T is a worse case imo, those side panel screws are annoying.

@@camotech1314 I agree, one of the main reasons I went with Lian Li for my main buld. Just overall better built. I originally built my main PC in the 220T, but after see a review of the EVO from lian li. I re-built it in the Lian LI 011 dynamic EVO & re-used the corsair 220t to make a 2nd PC for non-gaming purposes.
Just buy 2 140 mm fans.
My PlayStation 4 comes with two USB 3.0 Type A ports on the front. And it doesn't even need more than one. Here, we have computer cases with just one Type A port, where even 4 could be really useful.
I have the white version of it, and I bought an extra used black one, just so I could change the grey stuff on it for black :P Looks pretty unique now with the right black and white part in it :P

The Corsair 4000D Airflow CC-9011200-WW case includes x2 fans that have the 3pin connector. My new GigaByte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX (rev. 1.1) motherboard has 4pins on the headers. The MB manual clearly explains what pin is for what (1 GND / 2 Voltage Speed Control / 3 Sense / 4 PWM Speed Control). However, the manual from Corsair does not. Anybody else go through this and figured it out?
plug into the 4 pin port and select voltage DC control for the fan port in the bios
The only problem with the clear side glass panel is it only comes in white, so it won’t match the black case.
think i would go with the 5000 cheers

ya i use front panel connecters, that's why i look for certain cases that have what im looking for, but it all depends. most cases only come with so many, you also have to see what your motherboard has. some boards might only have this or that, people want usb-c these days, that's another reason this specific case is so popular. i personally don't need usb-c, but alot of people like to plug devices into things. Corsair atleast gives you a usb-3 and a usb-c port up front. im just not a big fan of a front mesh covering the entire front of the case, i know people these days are so touchy about Air flow and all that, but in my experience having that mesh attracts dust. i guess if you have a power hungry video card, it would make sense, but they can make room to put the panel buttons on the front near the top rather than top of the case, and you'd still have room to do a front mesh. it's a good case, but a little too wide for my needs. i can see why they did it that way, but you could put a 240mm AIO in plenty of cases out there that are smaller.
With usb c being on most phones and tablets now it’s a no brainier. There’s even usb c flash drives now with faster transfer speeds.
@portman8909 agreed, however pc case manufacturers haven't exactly caught up to date. there getting, but there are still few cases that offer it, and the one's that do charge a bit more for it since they know it's a feature people will want. phone's and laptop's specifically are becoming more and more common with those features, which is why the laptop market has seen a rise in sales since covid. even after covid. even my phone has one and it's from 2020 which wasn't all that long ago. prior to 2020, i had a Galaxy Note 4 which i had for a long time, but see i don't use a phone outside of day to day basic functions. now with pc, i have a laptop but my desktop i only upgrade every once in awhile, but whenever i do i usually try to get something that's gonna last for awhile. im not much of a gamer these days, but i still use a midrange card which helps with video playback, and the occasional game depending on my mood.

@portman8909 depends on the motherboard, cheaper boards tend to lack certain features sometimes. usb-c is pretty common, but with pc hardware it always varies. laptops don't deal with this issue as much, because a laptop is primarily meant for the mass consumer market. but in the desktop field it's a whole different ballgame, motherboards do have them your right, and some cases have them to, but budget is always gonna be a priority for most people. for a beginner or someone on the desktop side, that's why it can be helpful for some people to find videos that can help them make the right budget choices. i usually tell people, if you're really serious about putting one together, or even if you have a pre-built like one of those Dell Optiplexes, that's where it all started for me. except in my case, i had an old HP computer my uncle handed down. that was my introduction at the time, since 2008 I've made modifications to it, and that's how i learned. it eventually got to a point where i could no longer fit a graphics card longer than 7 inches, which was the most i could fit in that case. but that's the one downside about a pre-built, space is gonna be the biggest disadvantage it'll have. i had a ATI Radeon HD 4670, wasn't the best card back in 08, but it was equivalent to a Nvidia 8800gt. the 8800 had a slightly higher clock speed, but both the pixel and texture filrate were the same on both. but that's what i had in it, and the card was right around 7 inches maybe 8, but how i managed to get it inside, i had to do tinkering, that requires doing some extra work. as you know, power supplies used to mounted at the top of the case, and a mainstream desktop pc like HP is no different. Dell i think they did it that way to, you had another company called Gateway, and they used to make desktop computers. there aren't all that great, luckily the HP i had came with a dual core AMD Athlon Processor inside, that was extremely rare in a mainstream computer. Intel usually dominates when it comes to mainstream, but all manufacturers used different pc parts, mine just so happened to have it. so that CPU lasted me a good while, but when i upgraded to Windows 7 at the time in 2010, i did not like it too well. it was snappy under Windows XP, but when i went from that to Windows 7, i dealt with something i never did with Windows XP. in fact my uncle used a Pentium D from Intel in his personal computer at the time, and he didn't like how it performed. Windows XP could run just about anything, it would just be too slow now a days for modern tech, but i guarantee with a little bit work it would probably run.

It's a great case unless you can't afford to buy some extra fans, I bought arctic P12 value pack ($30/5pcs) and it's super silent at idle (200rpm). There's a lot of good option tho, just don't buy the one with closed panel 🤣

Totally disagree with the negativity from Mike on this. It's an awesome case. I have one that I got used and paid half retail price for it. Bargain
if i had got a used one half price that would have changed the tone of the review a lot
I don't know why everyone just defaults to the 4000D.
As with pretty much every other Corsair product it just feels distinctly average for an uncompetitive price.
So many other better options out there if you just spend 5 minutes looking.
I went for a be quiet 500FX over one of these. I had a Corsair carbide and it put me off Corsair from here on out.
the carbide range are really trash tier in my opinion, a world away from the more modern cases

this case is a nightmare if you run a 360m aio in the front with a push/pull configuration with all corsair rgb fans. I dislike the amount of cables corsair has on their rgb fans it creates huge sata cable waste and usb cable waste to the point now you need another usb hub to power 4 more usb headers. on top of this case not coming standard with a fan hub at its price point.
If your keeping the corsair very basic due to cost and only getting it cos of the brand then look away, if u want to design one of the most glorish cases going with full kits of RGB with high end RGB Fans, then its a excellent case for that, but it will cost u a dime, ive got the 5000 fully kitted with a 360MM Arctic, and 10X fans costing £12 each. its not for the weak hearted, and because u got it, people always desire to add more matching brands into it spec when it comes to fans.

It's a good case but just overpriced for me, if it was £60 then it's a good value case but at £80 with no RGB fans included it's a bit on the pricey side especially with other competitors around the same price having RGB fans included with their cases.

For me the reason to get the 4000d is because it fits perfectly on my desk, I cannot fit any larger
This case would be absolutely PERFECT for if the glass tint wasn't so ridiculously dark. A slight tint is nice, but this is just pointless.

The black one is slightly less offensive than the white one but that case is extremely ugly. I couldn't bear to have to look at it on a regular basis.
