I gotta agree with you Savo, the 2007 doesn't get enough love! One of my biggest beefs with the original Halloween is that Michael Myers isn't a character, he's just this unstoppable force. I appreciated Rob Zombie giving him a backstory and getting to see the reason he becomes so evil. For me it makes it scarier and more "realistic". I know some will disagree.

I agree partially, it’s good to build structure for a character by showing some early events, however if you over explain it feels like it sends the wrong message of why the character is why he is. This is all just my opinion and I respect anyone else’s

for a lot of people all that did was just make him less scary. It just makes people more sympathetic towards him which is kind of lame imo. Halloween 07 is basically a spinoff imo but lacks the fear factor of the original where he’s that mysterious unstoppable force

Honestly I've never been a fan of the original Halloween movies because I never found it scary. I get bored watching it and always end up looking for something more interesting. I enjoyed Rob Zombie's remake because the back story added a missing element in my case. The remake made Michael scary - the brutality gets your blood pumping & I love it. I will admit I didn't like parts of the second Halloween movie, but he went with his vision.

Rob Zombies Halloween movies are incredibly underrated the first one just fascinated me in a way Zombie did a great job at having you feel an emotional way about the characters as well they were greatly developed the casting choice was amazing as well the whole red neck thing could have had it’s tweaks but other than that I loved them

I like the Rob Zombie one but I think it waste too much time trying to give Michael a history and motivation when what was so terrifying in the original was that he just seemed like an unstoppable force of nature.
It also followed the mistake of making Laurie Strode his sister instead of a random person that he wanted to kill.

I feel what you mean with the retelling of his childhood in the 07 remake but what makes me like it so much is how demented he is as a child. the original depicts him as a dumb ordinary child who is possessed and doesn't even understand or know what he does or did, but in the 07 remake he knows what he is doing and he means it. A kid who is neglected from the beginning and gets pushed more and more until he snaps, and snaps hard. And i really like that, its understandable. I hated the ''possessed kid'' story. its dumb and unrealistic. but yeah, it takes some of the mystery away but in my eyes its worth it for a more understandable telling of why he gets to be the monster he becomes.

I've been a fan of the franchise since '02....I was 12....and Resurrection was the first one I saw and I loved it at the time. 😅 I wanted to watch them all as soon as I could and I did. All of them still entertain me but the first 2 have always been my favorites. I agree there was nothing wrong with making Lori and Michael siblings. I felt the newest one should've at least kept Halloween 2 relevant. As far as Rob Zombie goes...I'll watch them and I do enjoy the back story content he did. My biggest issue with it is how big of a douchebag Dr Loomis was turned into by the second one. He was always my favorite in the series cuz he was always warning everyone they're in danger and that Michael is very much alive and will return....in Zombie's he's just a screaming jerk and just wanting to profit off his story. That's the most annoying change Zombie made in my opinion.

    • @JayP7178

Good points. Sounds similar to what I went through with Halloween 6. I saw that movie with friends in junior high and we had such a fun time watching it. It's one of my favorites just based on nostalgia and how atmospheric it is. But I know as far as the story goes, it's just not a true Halloween tale. I don't mind that the 2018 movie did something new with taking off right after the original. I liked that aspect since the previous two timelines both included being continuations from the 1981 sequel. It's just the 2018 film lacked atmosphere. And you could tell it was made by someone very new to horror. There's so many scenes that should have been edited. Zombie's suffers from poor dialogue but I have to agree with the guy in the video, it was certainly its own thing and it was pretty hard to watch at times due to how intense it was. The ending was far more climactic than it was in the 2018 movie but Michael definitely was an improvement and more in line with the original, which I preferred.

Both films have hits and misses. I agree that Halloween RZ was a great movie for a young audience who needed to re-fear the character Michael Myers after a mess like Resurrection. But RZ makes a fatal mistake and it is to try to explain the character, transforming him not only into the cliche of the American psychopath but also making him a victim himself. Rob Zombie's Michael Myers is a victim in every sense of the word and that easily anyone would think that in a different context he could have been a good person. Which does not make it terrifying in my opinion, rather it hurts. This is the only contribution that Rob Zombie could give because after the childhood of Michael Myers, the film is almost a copy of the original from 78 but with some stupid versions of the other characters, it is a film with the half made by order because they never left that Rob Zombie had total control of the film (in h2 I realized why), it shows that it is not a film made with feeling. The film is pretentious in many moments with unnecessary situations and I think that even though it worked at the time, the errors become more evident over time. H18 could have been a better movie, it is a mix of all the sequels together and I think there are many aspects that can be better, but it has a huge success. It really feels like a Halloween movie, and beyond giving a "new version of the character" it brought to the table the value of the first movie for new generations who had even only seen the two Halloween remakes. And that, my friend, is something that no sequel since H2 has ever accomplished.

I must concur and would also like to add my own thoughts on this subject matter. A couple of things to note about the the remake, original and what the 2018 addition brought to the franchise. 1. His size! While some may suggest Tyler Manes size and height brought an imposing factor to the character I felt as though it did not and rather made him into a stereotypical brutish type character which isn't completely what The Shape is about. In the original he was only 5 ft 10 and his build was average and the character was part human part supernatural. The Shape in a physical form was just a "normal" guy who was an unstoppable force who could appear anywhere at anytime and that's difficult to do when you're 6 ft 8 and have a large build! If anything for me it makes him less scary having him so physically large. 2. The Backstory. While I appreciate the attempt Rob tried to make in explaining the backstory of the character it had one fundamental flaw and that was the attempt at trying to explain it in the first place. One of the key aspects that made the original scary was that you didn't know his backstory other than what we are told through the opening and Dr Loomis' psychoanalysis of the character. For me one way to build better tension and suspense is to have the suspense and information be told through others which can convey fear as opposed to seeing it for yourself which Rob did with The Shape. It takes away the mystique and process of being told something and having it flow through your head instead of seeing it and getting a definitive sight of what is being done. 3. The Violence. Of coarse as with any horror movie there will be violence in some form or another. As much as I am a fan of violence in horror films and viewing the various ways of how people die within these movies, too much and extensive violence becomes less scary and just plain right stupid. In the original and the 2018 version the kills were subtle yet effective in the true form of The Shape and in the way he deals with people. One thing I didn't like about Rob's version was that in Michael's killings he seemed more human than this part human part supernatural force and just straight up brutish which isn't wasn't the Shape is about at all. In his killings he grunts and makes noises and the death scenes are too drawn out with extensive blood and violence which begins to lose it's fear factor and instead you're going "oh not this again". With the original and the 2018 there was less blood in contrast to Zombie's remake and the kills were quick and not drawn out with extensive violence, though they were of coarse violent but within the limits of what The Shape is truly capable of and really captures the characters ways of dealing with people. Excessive violence and blood isn't what makes a horror film contrary to what many may believe, it's a culmination of things such as atmosphere, tension and suspense etc qualities I felt Zombie's remakes did not have.

One thing I hated about the 2018, kills is the stupid scenes where the characters clearly have an opportunity to kill Myers but don't take it. In the 2018, Laurie clearly could have shot Myers repeatedly in the face/head with all her guns. After shooting off part of his hand was an opportunity but no let's go and run and hide in cellar. In kills, Laurie daughter stabs Myers in back with pitchfork, falls face first on the ground with a clear opportunity to take the pitchfork and ram it into the back of his skull but no, let's take my girly foot and step on his head lol. And the mob scene 😆 dont even get me started with that stupidity. Zombies works bc Myers is brutal, scary and more believable.

The problem with robs version is that he has too many obnoxious characters, Michaels Origins are too cliché. And the second half of the movie is just a shot for shot remake of the original Halloween with more gore and nudity added. It’s a guilty pleasure.

Ooooh man, hard disagree on Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers not having atmosphere.
It's the only one on the franchise that I own on DvD and the only one I find myself even caring to rewatch anymore. Has a very 90s strobe lights Haunted House like vibe to it and that's the kind of Horror I grew up with.

That one is Erie for sure. But most agree it’s pretty out of whack and all over the place. I think it’s actually the one the general audience knows the least.

    • @TheMovieDoctorful
      @TheMovieDoctorful 3 года назад

@@savocentral6579 I'd say Resurrection is the one that's the least known. Fell right in the middle of 2 defining generations for the character (Halloween 6/H20 and Zombie's remake) so it really didn't have any audience or following to latch onto.
That's the funny thing about that franchise. I personally know die-hard fans for every single one of those films EXCEPT Resurrection. That one only gets embraced in a "so bad, it's good" kinda way like with Batman & Robin or something.

The sister timeline came into play in 2 onward,so to make a alternate ending trilogy that never goes to the hospital or shows him escape was a the perfect niche to just have a alternate angle of getting John Carpenter and JLC back and I understand your fondnoess to zombies film but what he got right in the first 2 acts fails once it becomes the original Halloween sped up for a ending.....had 07 did a totslly diffferent ending love it more......but it just showed me how flawed the whole film was.......the 78 film had 90 min to make the last act work mostly from Laurie's perspective....not rushing her perspective...2018 had some tone issues sure but overall it's the closest a sequel has ever got to the original tone and feel of uncertainty like a great white shark with no motive.....that's Myers to me not ted bundy or gacy style backstory making me feel sympathetic to someone who didnt need that backstory to be scary to start with.

You’re saying the rob zombie’s halloween remake is piece of sh*t? But i know that halloween are talking about is michael myers in the franchises kills, brutals, horror even more scarier like the other movies. Plus the may sequels of the John Carpenter’s Halloween Movies which is making a Halloween Returns in 2018 is much better than the Rob Zombies’ Halloween Remake in 2007 & 2009. It will ingore the Halloween 4 to 6 horror movies and not featurette by michael myers in Halloween 3 Season Of The Witch. I watched the Original Movie Halloween 1 made the movie film by John Carpenter & playable character of main Antagonist The Shape as Nick Castle. The Ending of halloween 1 the unmasked of michael myers age 23 as Tony Moran who’s played unmasked.

in my opinion Halloween 2007 is a terrible movie, with very bad dialogue and extremely caricatured and poorly made characters, this movie seems to me like a child begging for attention to show how dark and violent it is, and this becomes so recurrent that I just can't take this movie seriously, like, Michael capturing Laurie and showing her a picture in the cheesiest way possible. Michael in this movie seems more like Jason than the original Michael himself, the disproportionate size and the fact that he has feelings is something totally stupid, everything becomes so exaggerated to the point of not being able to take anything seriously and being extremely tiring to watch. it's really a remake of the 78 original, but soulless, bland, with characters you can't care about and even worse dialogue, rating 4 for this movie is still very high.
