- Join the MDSA squad where we detect The Ghost House in Somerset West, South Africa.
This house burned down over 30 years ago and was previously home to two ladies. While not fact, the rumour is that the two ladies perished in the fire.
The property is situated where once was a staging area at the foothill of Sir Lowry's Pass where the Voortrekkers would prepare their Ox Wagons and Oxen for the challenging climb up the steep slopes of the Hottentots Holland Mountain.
We ended up hunting the veld about 30m away from the house where we found old coins, a British General Service Button, a pendent and various artefacts. We will definitely be visiting this exciting location where we will detect closer around the house.

That big coin looks like it may have been a pre decimal penny?
I'm amazed to see just how the blue-gums have taken over, is there anything left of the indigenous Cape flora?
Cool hunt... enjoyed seeing your fun... and yes, that drone footage is stunning!👍😁👍
This is why I throw my 1 and 2 cents around my backyard, so that in 200-300 years from now someone will find it and get ecstatic like you did.🙂
🤣😂😅😆😁 classic, I will start doing the same!
Lekker Video John. Well done on the button💪
Thanks, such an awesome site. Can’t wait to get back there this weekend!
I would love to do something like this. My house is in a area said to be a concentration camp dating from ww2. ive found loads of medicine bottles dating 1940 and under. forgotten railway tracks in the mountains. and a abandoned village from the 1700s. Its kinda been my dream to do something like this there. Watching your vids has shown me alot and one day if i ever manage to get a metal detector, i hope to use what ive seen on your shows and further my passion. keep up the great work guys!
You should definitely get yourself a metal detector, sounds like you have the perfect spot for metal detecting.
Whereabouts are you?
@@MetalDetectingMDSA i plan to get one as soon as i can afford it. i recently just had a daughter so founds are on hold for a while. i currently am living in Cape town. But the family farm is called bergplaas. located near George
@@MetalDetectingMDSA can you maybe give me some personal advice on what kind of detector i should get/ at a good price? And if you are ever near George, let me know. ill show you what im working with and share some details on the place.
Take a look at the Simplex+, great for inland relic hunting like the site you describe. Also great on the beach.

Really cool video guys. I'm particularly interested in the buttons found. Would you be willing to do a follow up video with some more details and footage of the buttons (and coins for that matter) after cleaning them?
Thanks Francois appreciate the support! I need to do a better job reviewing and presenting the finds. Will do so in the next video 👍
