    I'm now an atheist after having grown up with a fundamentalist Mennonite preacher for a father. But one thing I still deeply appreciate about my upbringing is the unaccompanied four-part harmony nurtured by Mennonites and their kindred religious sects. Love this sound!

      how can you be an atheist? didn't you read revelation and Mathew 24 as a child? Or the book of Hosea? its all happening in real time! I'm praying for you to come to Yeshua as Lord and God

      @@LS-ii3fy: Whenever I pointed out incongruities and contradictions in the bible to my dad (starting at age seven), I would get hemming and hawwing without any good answers--and then I'd get the old fallback: "You just have to have faith." So because I wanted to please my father and I wanted to avoid the horrors of hell, I did my best to "just have faith."
      I have since learned a) faith is not a reliable pathway to truth. If it were, the Muslims would be the arbiters of truth, hands down, because their steadfast faith flies them confidently on suicide missions into buildings.
      B) I have figured out christians use the bible to make circular references and claims, horrible morality, and can provide no evidence of anything supernatural or divine. Christanity and its book hold no more terror for me because they're based on myth, imagination and error. Give me credible evidence for a god and I will change my mind as the evidence dictates.
      Until that time (and I'm not holding my breath), I live a fulfilling life by secular morals, being kind, loving, compassionate, and just according to what generally brings the greatest well-being to the most breathing creatures.
      So it matters not what Matthew or Revelation or Hosea may say any more than what Harry Potter may say or to what imaginary deity anyone mumbles magic spells.

      People denying the existence of God, are fools. Both according to my experience and actually the scriptures too. It is really only double up in foolishness, that you deny God, because you have been members of a sect, as you call it: You could have read the Bible all along and come to know Him! By the way, there is no such thing as a former Christian: If you had ever been truly saved and a believer in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, The Holy Spirit would be sealed within you until the day of redemption. Another thing is, both my experience and the scriptures tells me, that people only deny God, because they love their sin over Him and His laws. You seek comfort in beautiful song, but deny the message: That is just empty calories! No salvation in that alone. Either you deny Him or believe Him, and if you deny Him, you may as well party on, because you will go to the same place in the end anyway!

      @@1corinthians15.1-4kjvit is never up to us to judge.
      EVER.
      His decisions might not be right.
      Those ppl deserve just as much as we do, even more. We mix up how much grace Jesus gave souls that left his kingdom, not ton more judgement.

      @@1corinthians15.1-4kjvI think glue is just appreciating the joy of beautiful music, nothing wrong with that.
      We are all human in the end and have a choice to make, whether right or wrong. Not everything is just totally black and white as us Mennonites or anabaptist try to force on younger generations.

    Is applause considered inappropriate by this religious denomination? It doesn't seem like a worship service, only a recital.

    • @AnneD3
      @AnneD3 9 месяцев назад +3

      As it is the Lord they are praising it is deemed inappropriate to clap since that would be praising the choir. When we’re praised for our talents we say: The Lord be praised.

    • @jayoby7402
      @jayoby7402 8 месяцев назад +1

      Another reason is that they are singing quite a few songs and if they had to pause for applause after all of them it would add a considerable amount of time

      @@AnneD3 Understood, good point. Actually that's exactly why i DISapprove of applause after hymns during our Baptist worship services (when congregation members volunteer to play instruments) but i saw this performance as more like entertainment than worship.

    • @jayoby7402
      @jayoby7402 8 месяцев назад +3

      @GenerallyGeneralLee one thing to note about the Mennonites is we very rarely do anything for entertainment alone so everything has some aspect of worship. This particular event is a special worship service.
