This was my 1st car in 1974. Lt blue int/ext. Those push button gears were the novelty. Engine was the best feature. No power steering was the worst non-feature. Great reliable car for a 17-yo driver.
The Savoy put in it's final appearance in 1964 and it's 3rd model year on the B body platform . Production was very low . Mostly relegated to fleet applications . But only a handful came through with the legendary 426 Max Wedge option . Very fine example here and this unit still retains it's original low torque reduction gear stater .
I was just at Island Dragway in Great Meadows, NJ, to race my drag bike and to watch the nostalgia Nationals. This is the track where Don Garlits made the first official 200 mph pass in 1964. with reference to this conversation, incredibly, here was an all original 1964 Plymouth factory Super Stock Automatic equipped with the original Stage lll Max Wedge engine with an aluminum front end and acid dipped bumpers. The driver said it was one of only 6 or 60 built, I cannot remember the number. He told me it had never been registered or licensed as it has been a race car since leaving the factory. I will upload a photo of this car soon. But here was an easy $100,000 car still racing and not sitting idle in some museum. He ran in a period correct 11.50 @ 120 mph.
I know this is from a decade ago but is there anyone that might know if this car was in northwest Washington state at any point? This car looks identical to my friend’s dad’s car growing up. I believe he sold it circa 2006-08, maybe ever a couple years later. His was pristine, all original, same color paint and interior. He was the head of the local Mopar club.
@@jts9120 I have an old Mopar magazine with an article on how to improve oiling in a Chrysler B & RB block. It said to drill into the main oil galley at the top rear of the block and run a braided hose down into the side of the timing chain covet.
I couldn't help but speed and do burnouts every chance I got in this thing. These Max Wedge cars are the fastest cars to come from that entire era(1962-1974) A guy ran a brand new, completely stock,1963 Plymouth 426 Max Wedge car to an 11.99 quarter mile. That is insanely fast without even doing any mods whatsoever

Oil starvation under hard acceleration.
@@MrJohnnyDistortion I've never had a problem. I've owned several big blocks and raced them.
