i love how you present any idea in such a wholistic way . as a ER nurse, i have an awful shift order throughout the week, but still, for me the main goal is to train no matter what, everytime i check in the gym is a win as far as im consenred

I work a physical labor job. Often with unexpected overtime. Just about everything here applies to my situation as well. Much appreciated.

ICU nurse working PM twelves 3-4 days every week... I needed to hear that talk about RPE. I need to internalize that talk about RPE.

Progress is progress, it transcends weight on the bar lifted in a single session

This is great to hear, especially from you guys! I've heard others say if you work nights or shift work, you can't be successful with your training.
I've been working nights for almost 3 years, and while it's definitely not optimal, I am able to optimize other factors, like you said. I'm a police officer, and I work a Panama schedule. So, even when I'm off from work I keep a similar sleep schedule, I consistently get on average 7 hours of sleep, my nutrition is on point, and I'm consistent with my workouts. I'm still making gains, even at 37.
It was important for me to hear that on those days where I'm not at my strongest that it's ok and to do what I can with what weight I can. I tend to get frustrated and beat myself up when I'm not hitting the numbers I feel I should.
Thanks guys! As always, I appreciate what you guys are doing!

Video had big impact on training mindset.
Shifting focus toward internal load post-shift work, I can enjoy my workouts again. Had no idea I was placing so much emphasis on external load. Thank you.

So there’s a lot of stuff out there about working straight nights, or like 24 hour shifts. What about REAL shift work. Where I work we work a 28 day schedule, which is 12 hour shifts, where you work 4 days on, 3 off, 3 on, 1 off, 3 on, 3 off 4 on, 7 off, and you’re alternating between day and night shift. And add on 1hr or more commit each way.

About to do 12 hour shifts 2 weeks days, 2 weeks nights. No time for gym after work if i want to sleep at all. Basically enough time to eat, shower, and go to bed on work days.

Thanks guys! I find that stopping at the gym after a 24 helps separate my work stress from home. I do wish there was a way to nap at home without waking up feeling like crap and messing up my sleep. Oddly I can nap during the day in the on call room and feel just fine when they wake me up.

Perfect timing on this video! I just picked up a full time internal med position in conjunction with my part time outpatient internal medicine job. Thanks for the tips.

This video got you the bell. I dont don24 hr shifts, but I do work a crazy swing shift. A few days of 8 hour shifts to boom: 17bdays ina row of 12 hour night shifts, or some other psychotic variation of that thats involved in Dock work and in the vessel industry. Keeping a somewhat consistent training regiment has been irrefutable challenging and some of the things you mentioned here I have implemented into my psyche and my training to at least make it to the gym. Very good video. There needs to be more fitness content like this.

Docs, I have pain in my thoracic spine, hurts to the touch from t6 all the way to t10, sometimes I have numbness and burning in the region and lifting does to not aggravate it, BJJ which I do 4x a week and sleeping does, I do feel a bit of discomfort when taking a deep breathe, a mild sting below the shoulder blade, no cervical or lumbar pain, since it hurts to touch I worry it's injury to the ligaments, I have noticed some local relief when going to the gym and sometimes it cracks very loudly when hanging from a pull up bar, other than that sitting in the toilet is one of the places that seems to trigger the burning sensation and looking down while sitting (maintaining good posture) elicits mild discomfort that seems to irradiate to the lower back all the way from the the T6 which I would rank between 3 and 4.

The busier you are during a shift the perception of the shift goes quicker.
