Bells of Leicestershire - All Saints, Loughborough

  • Loughborough is a market town In Leicestershire, to the North of Leicester. All Saints is the medieval church in the heart of Lougborough. Dating from the 14th century, it almost certainly has Norman and Saxon roots. The bulk of the church was built around 1330, and the tower and nave clerestory windows added between 1450 and 1500.
    The ringing room is reached via a spiral staircase of 57 steps. There are 10 bells, cast by Taylors between 1897 and 1899. Taylor's bellfoundry is within walking distance of the church. The tenor weighs 30-3-0 cwt. Further details of the bells can be found here: dove.cccbr.org.uk/tower/16752
    A note on the ringing:
    The footage in this video is made up of 3 different pieces of ringing. The video in the belfry, and in the ringing room shows rounds. The method being rung in the audio clip is Stedman Caters and was recorded during a practice night.

    I wish our local churches had bell towers with real bells. Best sound in the world.

    why are the headstocks big for the front bells?

      They aren't, but what is unusual is they are curved headstocks, not straight. The trebles are very tall.
