So simple an idea and yet so skillfully performed…and complex, too. I keep rewinding 30 seconds to link the answer to the question I’d already forgotten. 😮😂
Not just this sketch but their whole range of work it is outstanding the clever writing, not to mention the delivery from these two gentlemen. Their wordplay was first class and if fun was considered an important part of learning English, teachers everywhere could be teaching children this instead of rubbish by long dead poets.
Dean Martin was definitely a piss artist lol, its just so cleverly written. The jock strap part nearly sent Ronnie Corbett off. I don’t know how they can keep a straight face
The man who wrote this sketch wrote ‘One Foot in the Grave’. He nearly threw this sketch away as he didn’t think it good enough. Thank Christ he didn’t.
The difference was Eric Morecambe was a very funny man but Ernie Wise was a weak sidekick. Big Ron was always my favourite (I guess because of Porridge & Open all hours too) but Little Ron was an utterly brilliant partner.
Considering a comparison with today’s rubbish, how come this was ultimately clever and amazingly written comedy with no foul language needed, just pure genius

This is one of the areas I think the Two Ronnies did very well in, putting conversations out of sync or lining up two different dialogues together. It plays a lot on messing up context.
People today are under the impression that comedy needs to be provocative, negative and even offensive to work. Those don't know how good comedy used to be just by being clever. It doesn't have to about the reaction and instead rely on the intelligence of the audience.
Betty Swollocks came close, but it must have demanded great mind power to deliver it the way it was done. The manner in which it was delivered meant that it was offensive to nobody.
So funny. Very well done.
Yes will dun very clever 😂❤
Ronnie Corbett is unbelievably good in this amazing sketch- he never bats an eye.
He does hesitate once or twice. Whether that's to add effect, or he almost slipped, is not clear.

it was very well written but i did not forget it was comedy lol
Not just well written but brilliantly performed. The Two Ronnies were both expert comic actors. And they had perfect chemistry.
You know it was written by David Renwick, yeah?

This never gets old.😅
This will go down in history as one of the best sketches of all time
Don't forget, fork handles..
Absolutely amazing duo,you will never see anything remotely close to being this clever, simply genius
With woke rules they just wouldnt bother now
Wtf are you on about @@MAte925 ? What precisely is "anti woke" about this sketch you utter melt
This sketch, and "Four Candles" are my favorites. Absolute classics.
Don't you mean "Fork Handles"? 🤔😁
Cleverly done. Love the way he keeps a straight face after :)

These two were just geniuses, as bright as four candles!
@john.highheels.3244
Or even 5 or 1,584 candles !!
Comedic gold. Every week - what a blessing to grow up with these two blokes on the tele. Thanks gents, rest in peace, fellas.
Who’s here in 2024? This is superb
Awesome , How Ronnie Corbett kept his laughter from erupting is class
Incredible. There’s no other word for this genius.
This for me is far funnier than Fork Handles. Shame it gets overlooked as a result.
what shame?
but thank you for not using the plague word: "underrated"
Every time I watch this sketch leaves me in stitches 😂
One of the absolute very best ❤
It just doesn’t get any better than this. I can watch it over and again. Brilliant.
Timeless !!
Bring back the 70's and 80's comedy, amazing and had me crying with laughter 🤣
This is over 40 years old and still funnier than anything on TV today. Wow!
A Masterpiece!
I loved watching these two every Saturday night with my weekly ice cream as a kid ... RIP Ronnies ...
Truly first class. You can't get better than the best, and the two Ronnie's are the best.

Very very clever writing and brilliantly delivered
Brilliant.
Brilliant. From when comedy was clever without always being below the belt.
That is without doubt the cleverest sketch of all
"What sort of artist?"
"Pass."
"Yes, near enough."
Could you explain why that part got such a big laugh? I didnt get it
@TheDisplacerBeast Meant to be "piss", as in "piss artist", slang for a drunkard.
@@johnmartinez7440 oh, i guess i just didnt make the connection. Is the artist known to be sloppy?

So funny never get tired of watching them👏👍🇬🇧❤️
This sketch was written by David Renwick. A different version appears in his earlier radio show “The Burkiss Way”.
The greatest double act of all time. I was lucky enough to have grown up on them. Mastermind is possibly my favourite sketch.
Brilliant!
My favourite Two Ronnies sketch.
There's another sketch with a similar idea called "Crossed Lines."
Absolute comedy gold
Unbelievably funny so clever and way ahead of it's time
The references are largely before my time but its so well written and delivered it makes me laugh all the same
Very clever and delivered with perfect timing. Up there with four candles routine .
I so miss 2 Ronnies.
Many have tried to copy this sketch, pointlessly.
It is perfect comedy

David Renwick

Two comic legends that made this sketch comedy gold. Special credit to David Renwick who penned this masterpiece

Wonderful 2 talented guys great British comedy bless them
Brilliant!! 😅
This fantastic take off of Mastermind and the Two Ronnies fork handles sketch are timeless comedy classics, and not a swear word to be heard.😊.
They are so clever, so very funny how they keep a straight face is amazing. Brilliant!!😅😂❤
Great comedy this, so well written
Absolute Legends!
British comedy is the best, and these two are some of the best,,,of the best. Hilarious.
This and the crossword on the train sketches are priceless.
Pure gold 🤣🤣
Incredibly done in one-take. Sheer brilliance
Up there with the Morecambe and Wise sketch with Andre Previn. . . comic genius both sketches.
Absolutely fantastic!
Genius!
Nothing is as good as that now. They were brilliant.
So great too thank you of coursr.
Morecambe and Wise can't hold a candle to this, let alone four.
The difference was Eric Morecambe was a very funny man but Ernie Wise was a weak sidekick. Big Ron was always my favourite (I guess because of Porridge & Open all hours too) but Little Ron was an utterly brilliant partner.
The writers are the start of any brilliant sketch.

some serious brains here.
these guys are so very clever.
Brilliant writing of comedy
"What is the difference between a donkey and an arse?"
"ONE IS A TRADE UNION LEADER AND THE OTHER A MEMBER OF THE CABINET."
"They are the same."
My word this is well done. Thank you YT.
When comedy really was cleaver & funny.
Thank you.
Irony at its finest

Ronnie Corbett trying to stop bursting out laughing 😂
Absolutely brilliant
And to think that David Renwick was going to throw the script for this sketch in the bin because he didn’t think it was good enough!
Genius classic, and I'd not noticed they had to pause the clock at 11 seconds before due to the audience laughter.
They won’t be replaced either !!!! No signs so far

Yes, although Barker and Corbett are great comic performers, most of the credit for this sketch must go to David Renwick.
