There were many accounts of CGI. The bear, the horses in the first scene, the avalanche, the arrows, he is saying that there was a complete absence of green screen, in fact, not a single green screen was brought to the set. It was all shot outdoors, in very harsh climates, in fact during the first scene, many of the extras walked off because of the conditions.
That bear deserves an Oscar
According to the film synopsis the main characters are Night's Watch deserters being chased by the bear who is actually Jeor Mormont reincarnated.

And although that award is the most honourable you can receive as an actor, not having one doesn't make one any less of an actor.

This movie has been done so well. The raw emotions, power, openness to interpretation, beautiful cinematography and absolutely breathtaking performance by Leonardo DiCaprio and the supporting cast. It made me think how trivial and almost pathetic modern society is with its fashion trends, gossip and evil corporations. What really matters are the relationships you have with your loved ones and your focus on your journey in this physical world

Now this film here , is a step forward in movie making . I watched it from beginning to end. I like the fact that he does not come across heroic . But simply human. I agree the scenes and panoramic views are beautiful. Native Americans are in severe need of recognition , like yesterday!#overdue#justice.
I love the drum they add in minute 1:49 when he shoot the indian riding the horse, that little detail makes the moment so dramatic. Great job in this movie, photography, sound, acting, everything.

This movie was fantastic visually, but really lacked plot. Spotlight however contained a intricate plot along with superb acting. The Revenant was not robbed, it was just simply not as good.
Jonathon len It was not really driven by plot though. Its driven by its visuals and themes. Not really about story. Spotlight BTW had really boring performances, nobody was good. Everybody was boring and monotone. Except Ruffalo who was stlill bad because he over acted.
I think that it was the complexity and the intricate details of what was captured. The Revenant had excellent performances and so did Spotlight but I think that the award for realism. Hugh Glass' journey wasn't in a harsh cold environment but rather in a grassland. And even his son wasn't killed. Spotlight on the other hand had captured each and every intricate detail of The Boston Globe's Spotlight team. So judging by the plot Spotlight was the clear choice. However, one thing that I am sure on which we all can agree is the fact that both of these films are one the best films that came out of hollywood. EVER.

Spotlight didn't tell you nothing you didn't already know. We all knew about Pedophilia in the Chruch etc etc. At least the Revenant told us about someone we didn't know about. Revenant had Drama. Spotlight told us nothing mew, At least Revenant made me want to research Hugh Glass
This is a movie which really takes you into a different time, exceptional stuff, definitely something you won't see in the cinema so often these days.
With this, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and another Quentin Tarantino western in the works, hopefully the western genre can make a comeback!

I went to see it the first day it came out! Leonardo DiCaprio did an outstanding job as did Tom Hardy who co-stared in the movie. It was raw, action-packed and the scenes of nature was simply amazing. I felt like I was right there every second of the movie. It was well over 2 hours long but I was captivated by the storyline and couldn't get enough!! My hat off to you Leonardo for such a STELLAR performance in this movie. His performance is certainly worthy of an Oscar! KUDOS to the director as well. If you haven't seen this movie yet, please do so. It's worth every penny :-)

Surely DiCaprio will get his deserved Oscar; his performance was so real, and so excruciating! Side Note: I recently watched an interview and he explained the buffalo liver scene, and it was in fact, a real raw buffalo liver. And yes, he ate it, and yes, he threw it up. All captured in the movie. He said everything practical which the crew was coming up with simply didn't look authentic, therefore, he ate the real thing.
This is one of those movies people are going to remember 50 years from now! An absolute master piece!
