      It all comes down to the writing, the script, the shooting script, shot visualization. Yes Leo and Tom were amazing, but ultimately it all comes down to a legal pad and a #2 pencil. That's why I could never understand how anyone could make a bad movie. If the writing, the script is crap, then WHY make it??

    To be honest Leo doesn't deserve an Oscar, he deserves his own special award called a DiCaprio. It would be so exclusive that it wouldn't be as mainstream as an Oscar, where only REAL actors like Leo should receive one.

      Nathanael Miranda this DP had previously won his last two noms from the AMPAS. He's a shoe-in for using his long takes and now this (nearly) groundbreaking approach to natural lighting (among other shining qualities [pun intended]). They were only shooting for a few hours a day between set-ups and break-downs and traveling to the remote location from town. Not a single, solitary bulb was used to enhance the photography of the film, they couldn't even use kerosene lanterns because they hadn't been invented yet. This guy and Iñárritu are gonna own people's hearts and minds come Christmas Day.

      ***** So wait shooting on film is bad? I actually sort of prefer film to digital.
      Few cinematographer's can truly use digital cameras (Arri Alexa or Red Epic or otherwise) well: exceptions are Lubezki, Roger Deakins, Claudio Miranda, John Toll, Seamus McGarvey, John Mathieson, Ben Davis, Trent Oplach, John Seale and of course, the late, great Andrew Lesnie.

    For those of you thinking whether you watch this in the cinema, yes, it is definitely worth it. It is in my opinion much better than star wars, james bond, hunger games and etc, if you were to only pick one to watch at the cinema.
    The premise of the film is completely shown in this trailer but this movie is not about the beginning and its end. It is about the middle of the story, how Leo DiCaprio using his shear will power to survive in the wilderness in order to get to the destination where Tom Hardy is - the man who killed his son, and to seek revenge. Watching how that willpower is driven throughout the movie is something that is worth watching and not a lot of movies these decade has focused upon. This movie is just so unique to pass.

      ***** Hugh Glass originally didn't even seek revenge, but if they didn't add that part in, it would be a kinda lame revenge story without revenge. Would you rather watch this or a 2 hour long Bear Grylls episode that ends with him forgiving them, ending with a christian message? The son was probably added in so that he has an extra motivation, and so that the audience is not emotionally confused when he goes after the people who abandoned him. I'm glad they did that.
      I don't see why you want it to be accurate. I'd much rather see an almost completely fictional story that adds many new, original elements, than a completely accurate cinematic wikipedia article.

    • @definitelynotofficial7350
      @definitelynotofficial7350 8 лет назад +1

    If anybody is in two minds as to whether to go and see this film: do (especially while it's in cinemas). The way this story is told just brutally highlights the futility of existence, and one man's genuinely inhuman struggle despite it. It's a tour de force of human spirit in the face of absolute, unequivocal hopelessness. It leaves you in a state of existential crisis. It fills you with the fear of God, quivering from the almighty savagery of nature. The performance from DiCaprio alone is unbelievable, and Hardy, despite having a smaller role, might be even better. The incomparable cinematography and mind-breaking audio design is worth the $15 to see in the cinema. Best film of 2015, no doubt.
