Great repair job and the whole thing looks awesome, Cindy. That frame, or something similarly sized and fairly ornate, would be a great addition to a booth wall to showcase some cool things for sale. It would certainly be an eye catcher!
Question please… Do you have to paint the frame black before applying your imitation gold leaf? .. I found a very cool old frame that looks like it was painted with metal, or it has old faded gilding on it.. I’m wondering if I should paint it black before I do my gold leaf gilding. I bought the 24 karat leaf so if my research says correctly, I do not put a final adhesive on it. Love ur creativity! TY!
I painted the frame black simply because I was going for the contrast between the black and gold look. Often, if people are gold leafing an entire piece they will paint it red first and then cover it completely with the gold. The red isn’t formally seen, just adds a richness to the tone of the gold above. If you have a piece that you like the colour and finish of and are going to add some leaf in places only, then just add your sizing/adhesive where you like and then the leaf.
..Somewhat demanding regarding which art you put in it... Guess you would need e.g. a King/General in Blackened or blued/guilded Cuirass... Which is how they liked to be depicted, but it was prior to prints & photo reproductions.... I have never seen reproductions of Henry VIII in Greenwich armour or e.g. Gustavus Adolphus in black armour... I once Decorated a bedroom in Bradbury & Bradburys Victorian Neo-Japanese roomset, black & gold.. Difficult to find matching objects... It would have been a good idea to e.g. redecorate frames..
I agree that a style like this would require just the 'right' piece of art, but I often use these as a 'frame' around mirrors, sconces, wreaths... hanging decor and not just art pieces per se. The buyer of this actually hung it in their bathroom!
Angel, I'm sorry but when I try Google translate it doesn't give me a clear understanding of your question... can you try rewording and we'll take it from there?
The tired old frame now looks really lovely! Good job Cindy! 👍🥰👍
Definitely an improvement!!
I ABSOLUTELY love this frame!!!
I know it will be too bold for some BUT... it's a big frame... I think it needed to make a statement!

You need to wait until the glue known as size to go sicky
Thanks Stephen, appreciate the feedback!
