Toy Caldwell was certainly one of America's greatest guitar talents. He is in the league of Hendrix, Ry Cooder, and Wes Montgomrey. He straddled all sorts of genres and should be remembered as the artist he truly was. Long live Marshall Tucker Band and Toy Caldwell!
@@ronaldstokes4841 I'm very aware of that! Both my grandpa's and both uncles served! One uncle purple hearts 💜 so I am very much aware!!! And I loved Toy Caldwell, Gregg Allman!

Thats what Marines Do,.. Semper Fi forever Toy,... you earned it
An amazing classic a little before my generation but one that l like. Always nice to hear the classic songs I grew up listening to. Thank you for sharing.
That must have been cool to hear some stories....Just learned of the fact Toy was in Vietnam...Interesting to go from 'Nam' to being such a successful band so soon. This song I love playing on my guitar. Yet watching him "Feel" the emotion in this particular performance, yeah. It's like that, not crying, whimpering, but more pissed off.
@Ritchie I know ... this is what makes it even more special for us , but I am sure it is very hard for her ... To have such a incredible experience with her life and this band and her dad , I am sure it’s bittersweet for her, but that would be a great idea to be able to interview her and her friends to get that side of his life .. not all about the music but the family side .. I would love to be able to get a hold of this one lol.. thank you
I was so fortunate to have seen Toy ,i can,t remember the date but it was in St PETERSBURG, FL. , And this is and always has been one of my favorite songs.
Semper Fi my brother. I saw MTB in concert 12 times in high school. This is how I will always remember my favorite band. I will never forget watching Toy shred with just his thumb. I never saw anyone else do that. Rest in peace.
Nothing like live music of the 70s and 80s. It was raw, real, and authentic. I dont blame today's music, they're trying to capture that magic, but it just isnt organic. Different times that were so simple yet so amazing
when I attended KU I had some really good dudes who were from outside of St; Louis area who introduced/turned me onto - this city slicker, to Marshall Tucker ... and they have been one of my favorites ever since ... beautiful sound and musicianship!
Just found this totally awesome 👌seen the original marshall tucker band in Huntsville Alabama 3 or 4 times back in the seventies best concerts I've ever been to Just couldn't be beat
I got to see them years ago at The Front Row in Cleveland. I want to say they were there with Gregg Allman. Toy's voice-like in this video -was to me-shot-Still a concert I'll never forget!! They were up first. I was sitting next to the aisle, and I remember like yesterday- two security guards literally dragged Greg Allman down to the stage-he couldn't walk. But man-when he got behind that organ- was pure magic! RIP to them and thanks for the great music!
Toy Caldwell one of my favorite players !!! Tucker in my top 5 favorite bands of all time!! Toys thumb was pure magic & Tommy played bass the same way , Absolute Legends!!!
heartbreaker, I met Toy just before he died. Hard to see how long it has been... He sounded better than this then. I remember getting goosebumps when he played... time sucks
thanks for this my birthday is september first i saw toy caldwell at a block party in 1988 in norwich ct he was hired by the town to play the harbour day show bad ass we never had a cool show except for the now defunked rose arts when b.b. king played also stevie ray vaughn now the big tent shows are gone no more streets closed off for the stage rick derringer was the last to play only because he is a local living in nearby colchester ct and they wonder why the town is broke
You got that right. Oh and it was for certain drugs. From Wikipedia Death Toy Caldwell was found dead in bed by his wife, Abbie, on February 25, 1993, at his home in Moore, South Carolina.[1] The cause of death was reported as cardio-respiratory failure due to viral cardio myocarditis, by Spartanburg County Coroner Jim Burnett.[7][8][9] Nevertheless, a toxicologist's report found that the cause of death was a cardiac arrest brought on by cocaine use. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toy_Caldwell
Just imagine how great heaven sounds Ronnie,Toy,Greg, all the greats sitting round picking and singing I bet it's a beautiful concert every night I hope I can see and hear them when I get there
Doug Gray should have just sang harmonies and not try to takeover the whole song. This was Toy's song all the way. And the best Marshall Tucker Band song in my opinion. Those Caldwell brothers are missed !!
I saw Marshall Tucker, even went back stage, and got an offer to go to Myrtle Beach for the show the next night. I should have quiT my job and went. I lost it anyway! All the members were there except Tommy Caldwell and Tim Laughder was on the bass!!1990 in Knoxville ,TN
Turn it up!! Great song. :) Live version off of off 1973's "Searchin'" cd is my fav. Here ,sorry to say, the maestro was a little tired out. Still great though.
His heart was really never in the band after Tommy died. And Timmy passing just a short time later really took the fire out of him. Love you Toy. R.I.P
I thought Tim died a month before Tommy. You should have Tommy in junior high school in the talent contest. We thought him and if I remember, Paul Riddle and Drew Pearson were rock stars.
This may be the most iconic songs ever written. If not the most, in the top three. This song has been imitated world wide by everyone that has ever picked up a guitar. By any band that has ever played a honky tonk. This song has been played and imitated more than Louie Louie. But no one can make it sound like Toy's guitar. He plays awesome.......and that base player was excellent. Almost playing bass and rythym.. knock out. You numba one, GI..
Fact: I was with him when we hit a land mine in a six-by truck on our way to check a bridge for explosives (1967)! He was it shot!!!! After the truck landed I got him and the driver out, kept them in the bushes, afraid of a possible ambush, until I could get a med-o-vac chopper in to get them out and to the ship hospital! It was his right arm that took a lot of shrapnel. I thought he was going to lose it, which he had hanging out of the truck doors window. We found each other 15 yrs later….he’d named his Rottweiler after me. God knows I missed him… PS: he was then living in Pauline SC❤
Miami around 1990. Marshall Tucker Coconut Grove festival. First time seeing Toy Caldwell lay it down live. I was taken away, left to want more and remain that way today. The MTB even had a sound check song. Sound check, chucka chucka, shooka shooka, check, check. shoulda been put on a album.

Toy Caldwell, shot in Vietnam, would not come home, went back to the front to finish his tour. True hero! God bless you Toy! Semper Fi Marine!
That is awesome.....
Semper Fi, Marine !!!!!

Hell yeah brother
And most likely joined the Marines because of his lost cause hatred of the US Army
