An intercooler can be a big help in keeping down your EGT and maybe use the oil nozzle coolers in the 3B, if you have them. Come to think of it, maybe an oil cooler can be a good help too.😎 I only have a 2B but thinking really hard if I go through with the turbo install, or do an engine swap.🤔
Just found your channel. I just got my first LC! '84, 5 spd, BJ42. I'm planning on putting on a turbo, as soon as I'm sure the endine is in good enough shape. I don't have a maunel for specs. Compression is 1. 425 2. 410 3. 400 4. 430. What do you think those psi values indicate for the engine?
Hi guys Hi from Australia. Thanks for the video, very similar to what i have done. I have a 1984 BJ42, I put a turbo kit on it and then blew the engine, so did a full rebuild. Still not happy with the tune yet, but im not game to run the egt over about 500c, (post turbo) which would be about 950f. Interesting you are running up to 750c. Thats pretty hot. I am looking into a water methanol kit at moment, would be interested to see your results, you said you may do this also. Hell of a good vehicle, I love driving it, with all of its character and faults, and awful steering. Mine is the last of the line with factory power steer, front discs and 5 speed gearbox.
Super good details, could you guys by any chance show some details for the power steering setup on the 3B I am so excited for my own 3B rebuild, I will completely cerakote everything on the engine, a Turbo is defenetly also in the thougths. I cant wait to win some Stuff from you guys, I will defenetly represent you on the show!
Thanks bud pleased you enjoyed it, we had a good time making it! The power steering is an FJ60 box and pitman arm. The shock tower on the drivers side was replaced with one from an F250 (common mod on ih8mud) to allow clearance for the steering shafts. We are going to do the same thing on my FJ45 soon and will do an in depth video then. Looking forward to seeing your channel take off!
Great video, very informative! We had a BJ45 that was turbo'd and now switched to a BJ75 for which we're getting a turbo installed as we speak. Can you maybe share some info with me that I didn't hear in the video: Why did you change the head gasket & studs? Also, if I heard correctly, you're getting about 1.000-1.100°F pre-turbo on highways. On our BJ45, we'd usually get about 600-700°F with 9PSI, no intercooler. Is the drop between pre- and post turbo that significant? Another thing I was wondering is, what kind of boost you are running? Thanks and greetings from Switzerland!
Hey! Thanks for your videos! I just wanted to ask for some advice for bringing a Land Cruiser (BJ40) from Central America to the US (NC). The vehicle was from a family member and I have always wanted to have a vehicle like that. I'd appreciate if anyone could offer some tips/advice on how to import into the US. Thanks!
Sorry Jesse I’m not 100% sure how to do that. I do know the vehicle has to be 25 years or older to import which if it’s a BJ40 it most likely is. Check out the “Import” section on ih8mud.com I’m sure you will find your answer there. Thanks for watching
@@musiccitycruisers3863 thanks so much for sharing about the forum! I appreciate your response for getting back to me. Thanks for your videos!! I look forward to exchanging tips for owning B engines soon!
I have a bj73 Toyota Land Cruiser with the 3b diesel and I think I need to rebuild the ingine where did you get the parts because later I want to put a turbo
Thanks for the video. This is not specific to the turbo, but could you please review how you primed the 3B oil system prior to startup. What did you use to pressurize and where did you connect it? (I am in the final rebuild stages of a 1971 FJ, now BJ40, with a 3B and CT 26 turbo) thanks
I used an old brake pressure bleeder I filled with engine oil and pressurized to feed into the oil pressure relief valve. The oil pressure relief valve is located on the low on the timing cover, just a little below the where the oil gallery is on the block. I just removed the plug and everything behind it and fed oil straight from the hose into it and she primed right up.
Hey guys, super cool video! Love the turboed 3B, I am thinking about going the same route with my BJ42...
Go for it!
Congrats on the 1K mark. Liked the Q&A. Time to see some more on the 45 and Joel’s 62 with the swap!!
Coming soon!

Congrats on your mile stone and keep it up. Looking forward to future video.
Thanks for the support!
Sweet video, congratulations on 1k.
Currently in the process of putting a turbo on my B swapped ford ranger. 😎

Most of the parts came from Engines Australia. They ship worldwide. Good luck with your build
Q nr de turbo
Can you convert 3b manual to automatic transmission?
I've never looked into it. I know the 3B came in coaster buses, so if they had an auto I'd say it would be doable and fairly straight forward.

@@musiccitycruisers3863 Thanks for that. Good luck with the rest of the project.
I've got a rebuilt 3b for my bj60 that came with a turbo kit. Would not have known to do that. Would love a video of that
